Transition your team for playoff success (1 Viewer)

Every year the fantasy landscape is littered with teams that bow out early in the playoffs after being the overall “Points For” leader throughout the regular season, all because they failed to transition their team for the playoffs. Here’s my 5 leading candidates to be week 14-15 playoff loss contributors as of right now.

#1 LenDale White: caveat: if they beat Indy Monday night. The Titans could hold a 3.5 game cushion on the conference and are a great candidate to bench starters late season. Even if they don’t, Tennessee draws the Steelers week 16 and the Pittsburgh could find themselves needing to win that one badly.

#2 Santana Moss: @ Baltimore, @ Cincy and vs. Philly weeks 14-16. At Cincy will be the Clinton Portis show. Not a single matchup outside of the top 10 in yds passing allowed when the games matter most

#3 Braylon Edwards: The schedule just never lets up. @ Tenn. @ Philly and vs. Cincy to close out the year.

#4 Tony Romo: If you’re fielding calls from anybody looking to “buy-low” on Romo, don’t get greedy and take what you can. @ Pittsburgh, vs G-Men and vs Baltimore is an absolute buzzsaw. Even if Romo manages to stay upright, he’ll come up small when it matters most.

#5 Randy Moss: Time and time again, we as fantasy owners seriously underestimate the grind of cross country trips. The Jets @ Oakland and San Diego to Buffalo this past weekend are prime examples. Week 14 the Pats trek to Seattle for a Sunday evening matchup and then head right back out the following week to Oakland. On paper, New England has a sweet “vs. pass” playoff schedule.

Be sure you sell that fact when you deal away Randy because, I’m not saying he’ll disappoint in both of these games – but mark my words; Moss will lay an egg this year when you need him most.

Add others please.

Andre Johnson. Assuming he stays healthy long enough to get there, his playoff schedule is Green Bay, Tennessee, and Oakland. You could make a realistic case that he'll be facing the top 3 corners in the league in that stretch. In addition, the Texans will probably be long gone from any type of contention when these games occur. It seems like a stretch to assume that Schaub and Andre stay healthy through week 16, and show enough fight to put up numbers on those corners.

This is a great topic. If you are going to consider Romo a playoff risk, then Barber is too. I am considering a trading Barber for S. Jackson.

However, will Houston be facing Tenessee's starting defense that week? My guess is yes - but...

Got to love it when 3 of your players have been mentioned in the first 6 picks!!

Seriously though, getting to the playoffs is the name of the game. After that luck plays a big percentage in moving through each week. Any player can have a good day or bad day. I try not to put that much stock in these things.

I work my butt off to get to the playoffs, and then pray to the fantasy football gods that I'm good enough to win.

Just about any and all Steelers, but Willie Parker(or whichever RB is starting there by then) especially. They close up most FF schedules with the Ravens and Titans. Oof.

For me, winning is the name of the game - not getting to the playoffs. I believe the things I'm talking about above have a lot to do with what some people refer to "getting hot in the playoffs". I think there's things you can do to get out there and make your own luck.

Got any good matchups?
Here are some that I am targeting. Of course weather or standings could prohibit some of these guys from producing.Playoff QBs-----------Jake DelhommeKyle OrtonPeyton ManningDrew BreesJT OSullivanPlayoff RBs-----------Marshawn LynchMatt ForteJamaal LewisSteve SlatonJoseph AddaiMJDRonnie BrownAdrian PetersonThomas JonesDMac/Justin FargasSteven JacksonFrank GorePlayoff WRs-----------Bernard BerrianJosh Morgan (deep sleeper)Donnie AveryLarry FitzgeraldRoddy WhiteBobby Engram (with Hasselback)Lee EvansSteve SmithRandy MossGreg Jennings

I agree 100% with the strategy of the thread starter. However, stud players are the exception to this rule. Andre Johnson is one of the few elite WRs in the league. You don't sit him ever. Would you sit Adrian Peterson in your playoffs because of a less than ideal matchup?Thomas Jones and Ronnie Brown look real good the last couple of weeks because they both play KC. Now those are two people I would definitely target.

Great post :goodposting:

i expect the Chargers to be fighting for a playoff spot and there schedule during FF playoffs is money.

home vs.Oaktown

@KC

@Tampa

tampa might be tough but the weather will be nice im sure

This is a good posting, but I think the NotForLong league is too unpredictable. Half of this will be old news in a month. People should wait til after the bye weeks before making such bold statements.

Great topic! Lots of help - thanks!

A lot of info on offense, but in out league, defenses score big points.

I have Tenn Defense - with them possibly sitting starters, what about any other Defensive teams I might look to.

Never too early to be looking at your playoff roster. Especially if you are in a league that freeze's rosters when the playoffs start.

Well some that might be on your waiver wire are Week 15 Det@INDWeek 16 Mia@KC If Freeney(sp?) and Sanders are playing the Indy D could rack up some sacks. Week 16, who knows who will be playing for KC by then?

I'm sitting at 6-1 and I feel pretty comfortable I will make the playoffs. I just made the following deal to get Ronnie Brown, who has a great playoff schedule.

Traded Shaub, C. Benson, and S. Moss and got O'Sullivan, R. Brown, and Cooley.

I have Romo at QB when he comes back so I will have to make due with a sub par QB the next 3 weeks.

Ouch.

At 7-2 I just made a move focused at the playoffs.

Cutler for Favre

Marshawn for LenDale

Andre Johnson for Brandon Marshall

Now I'm lookin like:

Schaub/ -Favre

LT2/Lynch/ -Jacobs, K. Smith

Johnson/Bowe/Witten -Avery, V. Jackson

Houston's schedule isn't that favorable down the stretch... but they'll be passing. Marshawn will run against the Broncos if I can make the championship game... Favre against the 9ers round 1.

I could really regret giving up Cutler/Marshall... but I'll still be rooting them on for my 35k contest team.

I'll let everyone know how it works out... subscribe to the PM updates of my team, it's free!

That's impressive, how did torain turn out in week 9? :lmao: How has the strategy of trading for guys with favorable playoff schedules worked for guys in the past vs. sticking with the guys that won games for you all year?

Any concern for bad weather receivers? Wondering about Jennings/A Johnson in particular?
:towelwave:
Jennings week 16 game in Chicago was destroyed by weather last year. Guess where he plays week 16 this year? Week 15 looks ok in balmy Jacksonville. But week 14 is at home against Houston.Johnson does have a week 15 game in Green Bay this year followed by a home game against the Titans. His week 16 matchup looks pretty good at Oakland.

I would be fairly concerned about both.
