Travel Advice for Stockholm, Sweden (1 Viewer)

Im travelling to Stockholm on business next week. What are the must do's/dont's of the area? I wont have much time to myself, but will be eating out on the companies dime and have most evenings to meander around. I should have this Sunday to become acclimated to my surroundings.

Go to the Ice Bar for sure. It's own/run by the people who own the Ice Hotel farther north in Sweden. Everything--the tables, chairs, etc.--is made of ice, so they give you these huge furry parkas to wear while you're in there. Sounds weird, but definitely something to see.

I can't remember the name of the restaurant and will have to look it up, but the best meal I had there was at the place where the Nobel Prize Committee meets in the upstairs part of the restaurant every year to determine the winners. I'm sure it would be easy to figure out which restaurant this is. The herring (which is not something I thought I would like) is fantastic. Definitely a place to go on someone else's dime.

:lmao: I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. I would love to see Sweden/Finland/Norway sometime. Just wanted to bump for ideas in case I ever get the chance to go.

Prepare to pay for beer to the tune of $10-12 per pint.

If any of the locals want to take you out for pizza, avoid it at all costs.

I heard the beer stinks. THough if im out with my SE counter-parts ive been told there will be schnapps flowing. Real schnapps, not the cordial sweet kind.Anyone been to the Absolut distillery/tours?

If it's anything like Norway, they love pizza and it's just awful.
 I loved the Swedish pizza when I was there (exchange student at Karlstad University from 98 - 99). It'd be $5 for a VERY thin, soft crust (eat with knife and fork) pizza and was always really good. Perfect on Sundays when we were all hungover. I'd always get the ham and mushroom, but it comes with this awesome cabbage-type salad ... I dream about that salad all the time.ETA I also miss the hot dogs. I'm not sure why, but the hot dogs and mustard in Sweden are the best. And the little sandwiches with shrimp, hard boiled egg and mayo ... and the herring. I miss Swedish foodstuffs.I loved Stockholm, but it's been so long since I've been there I forget what was good. I know there was one HUGE food court we loved as students. And I couldn't get enough of the salmon sushi.

Bump. Going for business next week. I'll have about a day and a half to myself for sightseeing. Any suggestions? Also places to eat are welcome (most company paid)
