Travis Henry. Marijuana. Suspension? (2 Viewers)

This is the only thing that might save him"Henry reportedly is claiming the NFL violated its own substance-abuse policy by not allowing his experts to be on hand when the urine sample was tested."
why does it even have to come down to something like this in the first place?

Gotta love fantasy football...I bet 1% of the posters on this board knew zero about Andre Hall prior to this thread...
 i've been watching his development since 6th grade.
Please I AM Andre Hall. :lmao:
:lmao: i'm the guy in the raincoat and sunglasses who comes to all your games :lmao:
So where were you two when I was arguing about him with EBF this offseason? The FFA?
Yeah, what were you guys arguing about?I've liked Hall since I had him on my college fantasy team in 2004/5

The big question is - will Henry play this week? They can't suspend him until the appeal is dropped, right? If the appeal isn't looked at until after Sunday, he technically can still play, correct?
Correct. Henry apparently was going to try and practice tomorrow. My question continues to be: If he does practice and he's able to play will Shanahan start him?
Well if it's pretty clear that a suspension is coming down, it makes sense to sit him and get selvin going since he will be the guy for the rest of the season
Or Shanahan might not want to risk falling to 2-3 and going into the bye with a three-game losing streak. When Onterrio Smith was suspended a few years ago he started every game right up until his suspension kicked in. I don't think it would be out of the question for Henry to start if he's able to go. Or will Shanahan use Henry's injury as a convenient way to avoid the whole thing and just sit him anyway?
It just makes more sense to me to give the majority of the reps to a healthy selvin, who chances are will be your primary ball carrier, instead of a banged up henry who's got a drug suspension hanging over his head. Selvin has done nothing to show that he couldn't be productive in that offense.

that would be a Pandora's box
I love the line of thinking here though: Yes I'm guilty but you didn't follow your own rules properly so you can't convict me. Great stuff here.
I do not disagree. But, I can see it now where each player taking a "test" has his own experts there. What a mess that would be.

I just offered everyone in my league travis for any player worth more than dirt ....i just hope someone is asleep at the wheel long enough to take it...is this wrong????
Not in my book.....I am doing the same thing
The way i see it is if i`m going to sit on my ### in front of this computer for hours and put my time in so when something like this happens and my 2nd pick in the draft is about to be worthless i want to get something for my effort. Sorry the guy who agree`s was doing something else tonite...but it`s just not my concern.
Good luck with that. I would do the same thing, but it' s on CBS and Fanball's now.

You mean with the sample handling and such?

Is this a for sure suspension?? What if Henry appeals does he play until appear is heard, Would you drop a starting RB to pick him up, Portis Thomas Jones??

All I can think of is that scene from "Playmakers" a few years back. Boy how accurate is that show turning out to be? And to think the content and storylines were thought to be borderline far-fetched when it orginally aired.

I am sure he knew he was going to take the test when he arrived at the location, why wasn't his expert with him?

If I were Shanny I would run him until he breaks in two.

wtfYou want to cut a starter like that for a guy on the verge of not playing again all year?

I found this...it`s old but clears up what week he has until out of the program.Henry may end up carrying clean slateBy Bill WilliamsonDenver Post Staff WriterArticle Last Updated: 03/07/2007 12:30:00 AM MSTOne risk involved in the Broncos' signing of Travis Henry will be erased later this year if the running back continues to stay clean.Henry will rotate out of the NFL's substance abuse program after the third game of the 2007 season if he doesn't have any drug violations. If he does have a violation before then, Henry would be suspended for the entire season.Players rotate out of the program after two seasons if they don't have any further violations.Henry was suspended four games in 2005, his first season with the Tennessee Titans, after testing positive for marijuana.
So I'm confused, is Henry out or is he screwed? I assume this incident would have taken place prior to week 3, but obviously we're past the cutoff now...
if this article is accurate it would appear that he's in the clear.
the drug test was from Sept 20th, so that's before week three, my friend...
Oh...didn't see that.
What an idiot Travis Henry is. Getting busted once is stupid enough when there is millions of dollars on the line. A 2nd time, a few weeks before he'd be in the clear, is bordering on brain dead.
I'd suspect that a LOT of pro athletes depend on various systems to keep themselves "clean" for drug tests. I have several friends in the professional world that smoke (I personally don't), and they all clam that they could pass a drug test if it came down to it, especially if they knew when it may be coming. However, I suppose if you get away with it enough and you're dumb enough to do it with the stakes involved and risk getting busted to begin with, you're probably not necessarily the sharpest tack in the box. While the systems may be pretty effective if used "properly", it probably wouldn't take much to render it ineffective if you slip up the tiniest bit. And if you're getting high every day, I can imagine you have your forgetful moments...In never ceases to amaze me how people with so much to lose could be so reckless with their behavior and have it all go up in smoke (literally in this case).

I think that's very possible.

not really.it was way too over the top. and to have all those issues on one team?? #### was way too hokey.

This happens fairly often in criminal cases.

I believe that his argument was, and it's a decent one, is that any undrafted RB cut twice (TB and CHI) is very, very unlikely to amount to anything.

From the Broncos forum:

Execution Style!

First the 9 kids with 9 different women, now this?!?!?!?

This proves how stupid people that uses Marijuana.

Also proves how stupid people with millions of dollars are that dont know what to do with them money. *VICK*

Don't take this personally, but if you are going to call someone out and call them "stupid," then you should make sure that your own spelling and grammar are correct. I know this is just a message board, and most of the time I am typing fast and don't worry about such things, but you don't look too credible or too intelligent yourself when you call someone stupid and then use the wrong verb form (uses for use; omission of "are") or the wrong pronoun (them for their).Actually, I agree with your sentiment and did get a bit worried when I heard about Henry having so many children with so many wives--not for moral reasons-but because it does imply a lack of judgement and maturity. I still drafted him anyway, however, which maybe shows my judgement could use some improvement too!
You can write in ebonics and it wouldn't make Henry any less stupid. Get a grip, this is a football forum.

Gotta throw this out there:

I don't think the Shark move here is to run out and grab one of Sapp, Bell or Hall hoping for a lottery ticket. The Shark move is to lurk in the waiver wire waters and grab some good player that another owner dumps for one of those 3 guys.

For people just joining in, I'll summarize:

Henry failed a drug test on 9/20 outside the NFL and tried to cover up the fact:

NFL got the info anyway and is trying to use it against Henry.

Henry is suing NFL to keep them from using said drug test against him. May get off on technicality but nothing is concrete as of yet.

Selvin Young is officially listed as Henry's backup.

Nothing is set in stone as of yet so sit tight and watch the speculation fly :bye:

do we pull a trade if we can? i feel bad trying to pull a fast one on someone.
i am a henry owner in 5 leagues and i will not do that
I can't bring myself to do that stuff either. I just sent an email saying "if this deal was on the table would you take it?". If I hear back a yes, then I know I could have taken him, but I don't want to win like that.
I would. Matter of fact I am trying right now.

I'm on record that if he'd suspended for a long period, it will be similar to what Skeletor ran a year or so ago. Thus, Mike Bell gets good portion with S. Young getting the T. Bell role. Skeletor will reply on Bell's experience from doing it a season ago and wants Young's legs to be fresh to burst off long runs.

I made the point before, but I remember hearing that S. Young has never finished a season...even in High School. He is a poster boy for injury prone. Thus, Skeletor will not give him the full load. I think the RB for the future, if they don't draft one very high...is A. Hall. Supposedly they LOVE him and are grooming him for their future.

Wouldn't the fact that he sued on Sept. 20th mean that the failed test probably happened even before that date? How quickly would one get the results? I thought it takes a week or more. This clown is toast.

Rate these 3 RB's in order from best to worse(from a fantasy view) Brandon Jacobs, Kevin Jones, S. Young, thanks

another headache Denver RB year

Unlikely? Sure...But all it takes is one...

I haven't read the whole thread, and I have no horse in this race (I do not own any DEN RB), but I watched Selvin Young for 4 years at UT, and he just is not that good of a RB. He had great football speed early in his college career, but never seemed to get it back after a breaking his leg.

There's been a lot of discussion about the backups and who might benefit... let's say in most leagues Young was rostered because he's been contributing a bit each week. You've only got room for one: Sapp, Bell or Hall.Who are you picking up from that group?
i grabbed Bell. Outside chance the other two sneak through without being picked up this week, but i knew Bell wouldn't. And since i am the Henry/Selvin owner, i'm hoping that my definitive move (executed as soon as waivers opened) is a signal that i'm in the know, and there's no reason to pick up Sapp/Hall. others may have better football knowledge (which is why i'm reading this thread), but that's my game theory play.

A very likely scenario.

Regardless of your friends being able to pass a test, I have a feeling they don't have as much at stake as Henry does. All the man has to do is buckle down for 5-10 years of his life, make his bank, and then he can retire and buy a weed plantation in South America that grows the kindest of the kind bud.I'll be honest, I never understand why people end up in a situation like this. I try to put myself in his shoes - for instance, I'm successful and have many decisions/responsibilities/etc. that I need to make on a day to day basis at work. I have a group of buddies that LOVES to go out and booze it up. There are 5 days a week (sometimes 6-7 if I'm traveling) that I need to be 100% focused and on. I can live with not going out and getting all banged up the nights before those days. Trust me, I LOVE going out and whooping it up too. Believe it or not, it's sometimes hard to resist. But I'm an adult and have my priorities so I do. And again, I have much less to lose than THenry. What's he going to do if he can't play football?

In my 16 team league where I'm desperate for rb's, I just dropped Dillon and Heath Evans for Sapp+Bell. Grabbing which guy I just waived is your shark move?

Willie Parker wasn't good enough to play at UNC. Sometimes guys need to get a chance in the right system. Denver seems to be a pretty good system for most RBs.
