Travis Henry to hit the market as FA? (1 Viewer)

Talks between Travis Henry's agent and the Titans have reportedly "hit a snag."

Impact: The Titans have until next Sunday to come to an agreement on a restructured contract or Henry will hit free agency. He is due an $8.3 million option that won't be paid.

This could be interesting with only a few quality RBs available this season, via FA.

Jeez, in another thread I was talking about the tremendous depth of rookie RBs.

Add Lendale White to the mix!

Bush

Drew

Maroney

Addai

DeAngelo

Norwood

Lendale

This would be a mistake on the Titans part, but then again, the cap guides their thinking. It's not like they can just cut ties with Chrissy Brown and keep T. Henry in the mix.

He produced big time for them last year and the guy can play hurt. He's a rarity.

Seems strange they can't work something out, the Titans are way under the cap right now and should be able to structure something to make both parties fairly happy.

Henry may be looking for a BIG payday though. This could be his last one.

This situation does not seem materially different from the McNainr debacle last year. A bonus was written into the contract that was enormous. Clearly it is a bonus that the Titans never intended to pay.

McNair (and apparently Henry) says - pay me my money. Titans say no. Henry will then be a free agent on Friday unless they reach a compromise.

This could obviously be agent speak/posturing but...

The Titans have the money to get someone else from the growing list of potential FAs (Ahman Green, Chris Brown, Jamal Lewis etc.)

Have a chance to grab White for cheap (trade for Berrian) - even if Travis stays can he be a #3 RB? If he's the man in Tenn its a no brainer but to gamble that Travis will leave is a tough call.

so whats the read on White - haven't followed him closely - are we looking at a guy with upside that should be grabbed or nothing more than a change of pace backup to Travis or another FA RB????

any predicitions on white's numbers or rank either way?

Just surmising, not a fact:

The snag could be as simple as a clause that he has to pay back his entire signing bonus if he strikes 3 on the illegal substances.

Would protect the Titans and Henry probably wouldn't sign it.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere (PFT maybe?) that those types of clauses are not allowed under the CBA.

Maybe not via FA but there are plenty of quality backs that may be with a new team next season;McGaheeJonesTurner(Lamont Jordan?)... and this is where I'd add Henry to the listLewisBrownDillonRhodesAdd to that list the fact Peterson and Lynch most likely getting a starting job somewhere and I think that it's a buyers market for RB's right now. There simply aren't enough starting jobs around the league for all these guys so they better be very careful just how hard-ball they want to be in their negotiations.

Decent RBs are basically a dime a dozen. Travis Henry is a quality player, but hardly a star worth major money. It would be relatively easy to replace him.
