Travis Laboy (1 Viewer)

First off, he is listed as a DL in Sportsline leagues. I think that this classification makes him far more worthy of a look than in leagues where he is an LB. Also, my league rewards highly for sacks, so I'm looking at this from that point of view. That being said...

Laboy is a dynamic player, without a doubt. He had great "big play" numbers in a game where SF only had the ball 22 minutes, and only had 24 pass attempts.

Why wouldn't he put up similar numbers against a team that had 43 pass attempts last week and has a young offensive line that gave up 4 sacks in week one? Well, if the Dolphins have adopted a pass first mentality then these numbers set the stage for a huge game again for Laboy. Of course, it's more likely that the Phins drop their pass attempts, but how low could they go? 24 attempts seems like an absolute floor.

My biggest concern is the depth at the position, as Laboy is sharing snaps with Berry. And maybe I'm getting too carried away away by a defensive player's performance against a Mike Martz offense which is usually known for getting the QB killed. Kind of like selling the farm for Forte after he shredded the Colts run D.

Worth a play this week?

He's not sleeper, and he's def not a one week wonder. This guy came in and took the starting job away from berry, which has been a staple in the cardinals D-line for quite some time... this guy will keep his production up. He had 6 sacks i believe in the pre-season alone... he's basically been averaging like 2 game.

Thanks for the input. I agree with you that he shouldn't be a sleeper to us Sharks. But I called him a sleeper because he went undrafted in every IDP league I know about, and is started in only 9% of CBS Sportsline leagues.

BUT...Without giving too much subscriber content away, Laboy is not very highly ranked in the projections. So I'm faced with the decision of benching a higher ranked, higher drafted DL who I think is going against a tougher O (i.e. Andre Carter vs. the Saints) in favor of Laboy. Sometimes its hard to pull the trigger on benching a "big name" guy for a "little name" guy this early in the season.

So that's where I turn to y'all for some insight....

According to NFL Gamebook, Laboy started as RDE. he should be listed as a DE in all leagues according to that.

I believe Laboy is a DE in the 4-3 and a LB in the 3-4, so different sites have him labeled as different positions (I believe there is a thread on that somewhere around here). He is listed as an everydown LB here (when they are in the 3-4)... http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=380292. But when they are in the 4-3, I think he rotates with Berry. I see this as a good thing, as the rest lets him have a better motor for the whole game.

The doughnut today. Oh well, I guess he'll be a boom or bust guy from week to week.

Is there any stat source that shows the amount of snaps a D guy gets per game?

then you aren't really a shark then no? :yes:i wouldn't worry about the zero, probably the last time Laboy goes stat-less all season. i'd have done the same move. the Skins are pretty horrible and i don't think Andre Carter will be in as many pass rushing situations as last year as teams will be trying to run out the clock on them with the lead
