Trent Cole (1 Viewer)

I'm stealing this from an Eagles forum regarding Trent Cole (thanks BP for compiling):

Trent Cole's productions seems to be tailing off again this year, much like last year. I realize i'm a homer and should have some special insight here, but wanted to see if there were any reason for optimism that Cole would start producing like earlier in the season again at some point.

Trent Cole looks like he wore down last season as the Eagles stopped rotating lineman due to injuries. The Eagles recently benched Kearse and again shortened the rotation and Cole looks like he is responding the same way again. I personally have benched him in the league I have him. Good thing you got him for an overthe hill LB and a mediacore strong safety...

Definitely...of course, I didn't do much with the 2nd rounder...hopefully Gaines Adams turns into something...but yes, I seem to get fortunate in trades with that team i traded him to. I wonder how Chris Perry is doing these days...

about the same as kenny irons...sorry jb I know the last two posts are pretty much worthless next time we will try to keep our jabber in the shark pool...

Probably a combination.

Worn-down, he's undersized

Little help from the other side. Kearse is done. Playing again but I don't think J.l Thomas scares many people.

I'm an Eagles fan but not a huge fan of Cole. Never seems to get a sack at a crucial time and doesn't stop the run well.

He and Mark Anderson are similar to me.

He did have a huge INT in a very important game at a very important time against the Giants last year :goodposting:

You and your fellow Eagle homers should be FBG subscribers... .Excerpts from:

Week 12 Reading the Defense

We mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we were entering a historical danger period for Philadelphia DE Trent Cole, who saw his sack number drop precipitously in the second half of 2006. With no sacks in his past three games, it may be déjà vu all over again for Cole in 2007. Add in the news that the Eagles are benching Jevon Kearse and cutting back the snaps of fellow veteran Darren Howard and Cole will be forced to take still more snaps, which may keep Cole from staying fresh enough to consistently rush the passer. Tackle heavy leaguers should hold and hope for the best but it’s not looking great for those in big play leagues.

Week 11 Eyes of the Guru

Trent Cole has been an outstanding player for us this season and this is certainly not to suggest that you should consider dumping him but keep an eye on his production over the next couple of weeks. Cole was on a similar pace last season before going in the tank on us just when we needed him most. He had 8.5 sacks through week 11 last year but didn't record one the rest of the way. Heading to week 11 this season Cole stands at 8.5 sacks and has given us strong tackle numbers as well, but he's just 6-4-0 over the past 2 games. If he continues to slump, get off the boat before it sinks on you right as our playoffs start.

The Cole trend was discussed on one of our podcasts as well.

It's a little disappointing that the trend seems to be occurring again this year after rumors that Cole had bulked up specifically to prevent wearing down. His matchups haven't been as good over the past month, so there remains a glimmer of optimism for Cole. His matchups don't look much better down the stretch, though, so it's hard to be too optimistic.

If it wasn't for the really bad matchups to finish off the season, I would probably be arguing with the local pro's here. Personally, I still don't think he is done yet, even with the extremely crappy schedule ahead. Just a gut feeling I suppose.....

Trent Cole is a onetrick pony. He is a speed rusher who turns the corner quickly and gets very low on the tackle, trying to get past him using unreal leverage as he drives and runs low. That's hard to do when you are (A) tired from 11 games and (B) weather becomes a factor. Speed rushers are great indoors, but outside in the elements and not being on turf doesn't help matters.

Facing statues does help, and Hasselbeck may give Cole a sack this week. Future games against Romo, Brees and Campbell don't bode well for sacks, but he could get after Eli.

I agree with the concensus - he's not going to rack up big numbers in December any way you slice it.

:sarcasm: Norton has been all over this

3 solo1 assist1 forced fumble1 fumble recovery .5 sacksNot too shabby for a guy doomed to not do well in December. He at least started the month off right last week. Here is hoping he keeps it up (bad match-ups ahead though) I never quote myself because I think it's bad form, but I couldn't resist Jene.

I had the unfortunate privilege of watching last week's game and yes he finished nicely in the box score, but i think he got the FF, recovery and half sack all on one play where I think M Patterson actually generated most of the pressure. Outside of that 1 play he didn't do much. I know with DEs they tend to generate most of their points on one play here or there, but I am still concerned about him fading the next couple weeks.

Ugh, I wish i'd started Ogunleye this week over him.

 hey, no one's happier than me that TC had another nice game. 3/3 and 2 sacks. I'll take it.

Unfortunately, my Eagles are out of it though.

This specific example is why DL are so tough to predict. You can do everything right, the right research, the right analysis, make the right decision, and see one play make it look good/bad. It probably evens out over the course of a season, but it sure doesn't make us feel better when it bites us in a playoff/key game.

I traded him before week #9 after looking at his upcoming schedule. At the same time I replaced him with Greg Ellis and is has worked out real well.
