Trent Green (1 Viewer)

What would Lemmy do?
First I've seen Edwards say this:

QB May Not Return Has Starter ESPN.com reports Kansas City Chiefs QB Trent Green (head) may not be the starter when he returns from his severe concussion. QB Damon Huard has played very well in Green's absence and head coach Herman Edwards has now said he may stick with Huard as the starter. "If we were the other way, 3-5, we wouldn't be talking about this," Edwards said. "We'd be saying, 'Yeah, when is he coming back?' But now, we're winning, and it's 'What are you going to do when he comes back?' That's OK. That's a good problem to have."

Here is the transcript of Herm's weekly presser from earlier today...I think ESPN is taking things out of context

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2006/11/07/he...onference__117/

Q: I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but the longer this quarterback (Huard) plays and plays well does it make it a little more difficult decision for you to go back to Trent (Green)?

EDWARDS: “I think what you understand is the one thing you can never count out is chemistry on your football team. That’s very important and I know that. I’m a former football player and a coach and I understand there’s a certain chemistry that you have. You’ve got to make sure when you make changes…certain positions (are) not as hard.

“Quarterback position? Why? Because when you go to a great orchestra there’s a conductor. You’ve all those fine people playing those instruments but the conductor’s the conductor and that’s why that position is so special in our league. He’s the quarterback.

“You’ve got to make sure that when you make decisions like this – and I’ve had to make decisions like this before in New York – you’ve gotta know the chemistry of your football team. As you keep winning it becomes even more to talk about. If we were the other way at 3-5 we wouldn’t be talking about this. We’d be saying when is (Green) coming back. But now we’re winning and they’re saying what are you going to do when he comes back? That’s OK. That’s a good problem to have. But at the end the decision I’ll make is (predicated) on the chemistry of this football team.

“Does it affect it? Does it help it more? Does it add drama? Yeah, it’s going to draw drama every week if we continue to win and Damon continues to play well. I want him to keep playing well and I want him to keep winning because that’s important. That was his job when he came in. It was to help us win games and he’s done that and the team has rallied around him.”

Q: So is Trent still the guy when he comes back?

EDWARDS: “At this point, I don’t have to make that decision. But I’ll make the decision. It’ll be a decision I’ll make.”

Q: So you’re kind of waffling then?

EDWARDS: “No, I’m not waffling. What I don’t want to do is this: I don’t want to talk about a decision I don’t have to make at this point and time because that’s not important. Trent’s not playing this week. Damon Huard is the starting quarterback. What I don’t want to get caught in – and it happens every week when I come in here – is every week we win a game and Trent’s out they’re going to keep asking the question. Well, it’s not about Trent right now. It’s about the football team. It’s all it matters.”

Q: But when Trent went out, you had a bye week and then it was two weeks, but when you talk about a guy at any position being out 10 to 11 weeks doesn’t that kind change what you might have thought after two weeks?

EDWARDS: “Sure, but you still have to make the decision on what’s right for the football team. Is it a hard decision? Yeah, it’s a hard decision but that’s part of the deal. You try to make the right decision.”

Q: But the impact of being out 10 to 11 weeks is hard to get back isn’t it?

EDWARDS: “I don’t know. I don’t know that. I can’t say that. I’m not Trent Green. But I know what Trent Green brings to the table and I know what he is. I know what he’s done in the past. I know he’s a heck of a quarterback and a great leader for this football team. He’s been very successful and these are the things you weigh.

“The great part about it: I get to make the decision so no one needs to worry about that.”

Q: When you have to make the decision will you poll the players?

EDWARDS: “No, we’ll let the fans poll the players. Whatever you want to do, do it.”

Q: Is that going to be a hard decision to make?

EDWARDS: “No, not as long as you know you’ve gathered information and know what’s right for the football team. That’s never hard.”

PETERSON: “Research would show that Herman’s had to do this before. OK. We will discuss it. We already have. Let’s move on with something else.”

Q: But the last couple of weeks you’ve said that he’s your guy. But now you’re not saying that?

EDWARDS: “I’m not saying it because I’m tired of talking about it. We keep talking about it and we’re talking about a guy who’s not even playing. That’s not fair to the quarterback. That’s not fair to this football team, to be quite honest. This team has done some good things this year and, as you’ve said, has fought for the most part every week except for maybe one. That’s what is important. I don’t like to talk about players who are not playing. That’s not fair to the guys that are playing. It’s not fair to your team.

“I’ve always talked about it that way. I’m not saying it because it’s Trent. You don’t need to do that because you’ve got guys who are working every day, who are trying to win, and those are the guys that are important right now. When that decision needs to be made obviously everybody in this room will know. I’ll make the decision and it’ll be one that you deal with and you go.”

ESPN.com reports Kansas City Chiefs QB Trent Green (head) may not be the starter when he returns from his severe concussion. He never said he "may stick with Huard as the starter". Not once, that's the media making something out of nothing. Carl got fed up with the way the presser was going, and told the media twice to shut up and stop asking about Trent vs Damon. Listening to the presser, it was pretty annoying to me as well...and I'm not even the one having to answer the questions. This is the transcript from that part of the presser. Someone asked him why he didn't come out and say "Trent is our QB", and using the fact that he didn't as evidence for the line of though that Huard is now the starter. They thought that was evidence that now Herm has changed his mind. Herm just keeps saying the same thing he's said since preseason...that he doesn't want to talk about injured players, or guys that aren't here. That it's unfair to the rest of the team that's done some good things of their own so far.

“The great part about it: I get to make the decision so no one needs to worry about that.”

Q: The fact that Mike Solari has evolved into a very effective offensive coordinator and play caller and has done that with Damon, and that he and Trent have hardly worked at all together in that capacity, does that become a factor that you will weigh?

EDWARDS: “No, because Trent is a smart enough guy to know that this is the way we’re going to do it. We’re going to play our offense a certain way at this point in time because it’s been successful. I don’t think you get away from those things. We’re not going to get away from giving the ball to Larry Johnson and we’re not going to get away from throwing the ball to Tony Gonzalez and, when we get an opportunity to take the ball down the field we’re going to take it down the field. That’s not going to change for us.

“There might be certain things that we know Trent can do a little bit better than Damon. Are there some things we’ve cut out of the offense that Trent can do better than Damon? Absolutely. That’s what you’re supposed to do because you’re supposed to make the players successful. It’s not about your system it’s about the players. What can the player do well and Mike and Terry Shea have done a great job of organizing their thoughts – along with Damon – on what exactly he can do well. Trent can do some things a little different too. He’s got some stronger attributes doing certain things in this offense.”

Q: Herm and Carl (Peterson) you might comment, you say it’s your decision but if you pay a guy $50 million dollars isn’t that an organization decision?

EDWARDS: “I’m going to talk to Carl about it but at the end of the day I think he’s going to tell me to do what’s best for the football team. He’s always been that kind of man, as far as I know.”

CARL PETERSON: “You said the right thing, but I’ll tell you what, why don’t we get on with the press conference because this questioning is ad nausea. He will make the decision. Certainly we will discuss it at the time. But he’s right. We don’t have to make that decision right now.”

Q: When you have to make the decision will you poll the players?

EDWARDS: “No, we’ll let the fans poll the players. Whatever you want to do, do it.”

EDIT: Kevin beat me to it. But he see's the same thing I did. Herm never said what they are saying he did.

I think the Chiefs should hire Jackie Childs to stand in for Edwards during these press conferences.

I LOVE Herm...he puts the media in their place. He doesn't let them bully him.
Don't get me wrong, I think he did a great job handling this conference and the reporters really came off bad. It's just when I read some of what Herm says I can't help but imagine how it would sound if Jackie Childs was saying it.I mean stuff like this:“Quarterback position? Why?
