Tropicana Field - Tampa Rays park.....tell me about it. (1 Viewer)

I've only been there once. It was nothing special. Glad it was a dome the day we went there though because it was 90 degrees and humid. There were probably a whopping 10,000 fans there at the most. They were playing the Orioles so it's not surprising.

It's not great, if you're looking for a traditional baseball environment. They've done a good job revamping it from say, 2005 until now...it's more fan-friendly (read: family) and more fun to go to...but hey, it's a dome.

Summers here are just absolutely miserable though, so it is necessary until they get the retractable roof stadium voted on. If the attendance is bad now for weekday games against the Orioles, picture when it is 99 degrees, feels like 110, and mosquitos are buzzing.

No dollar dog days that I know of. If you have any other specific questions I can help ya.

Cappy - I think you can bring certain food/drink in, right? Also free parking with car of 4 or more people I think. Cigar bar behind centerfield, if you like that.

Be sure to hit Ferg's before...and downtown (waterfront area) St Pete is pretty cool after.

Any bad areas of St. Pete to stay away from?

Yes. The place where the dome is located.

 You'll look around and wonder why the he!! they put a stadium in that spot...just go about 10 blocks due East towards the bay and you'll be good.

Yeah, the only time I was there, I was blown away at the number of customer service or greeter people they had. And yes, the free parking for 4 was a great deal.

Worst stadium in baseball.
I haven't been to every stadium, but the current buyer used to work in Minny and said the Trop blew the HHH Dome away. Of course, that's gone now...so maybe. The atmosphere is 100x better than SunLife.
The Metrodome was pretty crappy, but the Trop is worse. Way worse. I've been to many games at both. Now that the Metrodome out of the picture, the Trop is dead last with a bullet.

The opinion of the person who works/worked at both places every day carries a little more weight with me.Domes do help the atmosphere to some degree though...both of those stadiums are as loud as any in baseball. Cavernous football stadiums like SunLife don't ever get loud even with 55K. And considering they normally draw 5500...the Trop is a much better experience.

Yeah but to us midwesterners who deal with 8 months of winter, just being in the warm sun of Florida on vacation made the Trop more desirable, even though it's a dome. It's different when Summer finally rolls around but we had a great experience at the Trop. My 5 year old son even got a batting practice ball signed by Price while we were there. Good times.

 Totally agree. It was very nice. The Pier was nice too......for the view at least.

 That area has been really revived in the last 10 years. Lots of good food and bars. My wife and I love Ceviche, which is across the street from Vinoy Park, has some great food, and an underground basement band room with live bands almost every night. You can wander into the bar at the Vinoy also...and usually find the opposing players hanging out...since they usually stay there.

I was there for games 1 & 2 of the WS. Having seen it on TV, I thought it had to be the worst stadium in the league. Once we got there, it wasn't terrible. Boiled peanuts were unique. Sightlines were adequate. It was better than I expected.

Having seen it and liked it, I thought the Metrodome had to be the worst, although I've never been there. Now that its gone, the Rogers Centre with the roof closed must be the worst.

Trop ain't quite as bad as Pickles would lead you to believe. I've been to a bunch of games there and I have a good time everytime. People think that's a bad neighborhood? They have revamped a lot of the downtown parts of St Pete and out to the Pier, worse places I can think of to be stuck than in downtown St Pete, seriously there are some pretty cool old bars in and around there.

Haven't been there. The impression that I get is that it's sorta the modern day carrier of the legacy of Stade Olympique in Montreal (which I did get to the next-to-last year the Expos were there).

So aside from Craigslist and Stubhub, any place to check for tickets? (Like any Rays Message boards?)

We're looking for 4 for Sunday against the Marlins. Most of the ones on Craigslist are for Saturday night. And with the prices/fees on Stubhub, I'd rather just go through the Rays.

Tempted to just wait until Sunday and go down to the park.

There is little to no sclaping market for Rays tickets, the Rays charge a service charge if you buy them day of inside of 4 hours. Best bet is just gettin 'em on ticketmaster.
