Truck - Colorado versus Frontier (1 Viewer)

Been looking at trucks lately. Looking at 4 cylinders as I would never be hauling anything to heavy. I like the looks of the Colorado but Nissan's tend to have a better reputation for reliability. 

Would love to hear any opinions from folks that have or have had one in recent years. Probably looking at 2016's and newer unless I come across a low mileage one.

I have a 2016 crew cab Z71 Colorado with the V6 engine and love it.  It actually has more interior head/leg room than the full size king cab I traded in.  I did have to borrow a vehicle while they fixed a problem with my seat adjuster and got a 2017 Colorado base model with the 4 cylinder and it seemed to lack pickup when the AC was running.  Could be I am just used to more power, but I would not be happy with the base model and 4 cylinder engine.

I own a 2009 crew cab 4X4 Frontier with almost 90K miles on it.  It has never needed any repairs except for the normal wear and tear items such as tires and brakes.  It has held up well and has been a great truck.  That being said, Nissan has not updated the Frontier in many years and I would give the Colorado a long look.  The Colorado should have a better ride and be more modern looking inside and out.  Reliability is very important so keep researching that aspect of any truck you are considering.

Tacoma.  Those things are indestructible. We have run them as fleet vehicles and they regularly take the abuse and last 8-10 years 250-300k no problem.

This.  I was in the market for a new car last year, and was all over the place in what I was looking at/for.  At one point, I was considering a small crew-cab p-up.  I looked at the Colorado as well as the GMC Canyon (really wanted to see the Denali version), as well as a few other trucks, incl. the Tacoma and Frontier.  I'm not a fan of buying cars deep into their body-style lifespan, so that narrowed it a lot for me.

I ultimately didn't get a truck, but I did like the Colorado/Canyon styling and specs a lot.

The base model had a rougher ride than my truck, so it would also depend on what trim package you are looking if the ride is important to you.  I also drove a full size crew cab chevy before I bought the Colorado...it was the off road edition and it was a rough ride also.

Tacoma all the way. Get the top tier one.   It's insane how They hold their value. Plus it's the second year of the new body style. They run forever.  Just go look at how much the used ones go for and you'll see what I mean.

I want to be able to haul things but nothing is ever going to be of extreme weight.

Good point! 3/4 of our Aruba trip is paid for already. Our second car has 260,000 miles on it. Time for an upgrade.

That would be my first choice but not sure the budget is going to allow it. Trust me, I have seen the prices of used ones!

I bit the bullet and got a used 6 cylinder Tacoma with the long bed.  It cost more upfront but think it will pay off over the life of the truck.  Regardless of what you buy I highly recommend getting 6 cylinder.  You will like the extra power when you have a load of gravel of something in the back.
