I think they're focusing too much on the plot. In my opinion, the first season was fantastic because the two main characters were fleshed out and very entertaining on screen. I was interested in the overarching plot, but I was also super interested in the clash between Cohle and Marty. Half of any episode was dedicated to those two characters going back and forth, and it was entertaining.

there's really none of that here.

Yeah this is just shaping up to be a really bad show on its own merits. Had this been the first season I wonder if anyone would still be watching. The blatant Lynch rip offs just make it worse.

I know. Totally uncool to express optimism that a series focusing on developing unlikable characters may have turned the corner from that.I'll go hang out with the other uncool kids from drama club now.

It was a cool shootout scene, no question. But if the rest of the second half remains as crappy as the first half, nobody is going to walk away thinking "man, that one shootout scene really made this a good series."

Wasn't saying that, just saying if we get more of that and less "Is Kitsch's character a queer or not? Will Velcoro find new reasons to be a miserable sack of ####e? Will McAdams just get naked already?", it'll be an improvement.
