The Phillies are finalizing a trade with the Twins for flamethrowing reliever Jhoan Duran, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Wednesday. The clubs have not confirmed the move.
The Twins will receive catcher Eduardo Tait (ranked Phils' No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline) and right-hander Mick Abel (No. 6, who made his MLB debut this season) from the Phillies for Duran, per source. They are also both ranked on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list: Tait at No. 56 and Abel at No. 92.
Duran, 27, is one of the hardest throwers in the game, but he’s also a pitcher, with a three-pitch mix that makes his 100-plus heat almost impossible to hit. He throws a splinker in the high-90s as well as a filthy knuckle-curve, allowing him to miss bats even as his peak velocity has diminished a bit from a couple of years ago.
