Typical Lions (1 Viewer)

What a waste of a pick. This team needs DEFENSE. Ever heard of it?
Yeah they have a ton of needs and they have two QBs in Kitna and McCown that can at least get the ball to some receivers. Plus they have Dan Orlovsky who everyone was so goo-goo about. They should have went O-line or anything on D with that pick. You're right, typical Lions and typical in a homer sense on top of everything.

As a huge MSU fan and a huge Lions fan, this pick makes me physically ill.

Drew Stanton is such a great player and such a competitor. There have been so many MSU games where I felt so bad for him afterwards, that he played so hard and so well and his team let him down.

He doesn't deserve to suffer the same fate on the Lions. But he will, because this organization is a joke. It's like they're TRYING to have the worst defense in NFL history next season.

do they even have a secondary at this point?

Quit worrying about the Lions and roll for the tiebreak.

If they had to play a game today, the Lions would probably roll out:CB: Travis Fisher (Decent player if he can stay healthy, but by no means a #1 CB)CB: Fernando Bryant (I'll go with :lmao: , but only because there's no smilie hanging himself)S: Kenoy Kennedy (Decent player who doesn't fit the Cover 2 at all)S: Daniel Bullocks (2nd-round pick last year with some upside)So on a good day, they might be able to keep someone under 400 passing yards.

Say hello to the guy who will be playing catch with Roy and Calvin for years, IMO making him the top fantasy QB in this draft.

Kitna gets another year.

McCown will be a Raider by the end of the weekend.

Orlovsky is now cemented as #3.

I'm a Bears fan. I'm not looking forward to the Bears having to face Johnson twice a year. I thought Drew Stanton was a fairly good pick. If McCown was so good why couldn't he beat out Kitna last year? I think the Lions did what the Raiders should have done. They took Johnson and looked to get a QB in the scond round.

so, no. i like fisher as a nickel or dime, not blys replacement. bryant has played, what 9 games in two years? kennedy is old and like you said a terrible fit for the cover 2. bullocks, i like. everything else... :lmao:

I think Johnson and Stanton are both very good players and I like the value where the Lions got them. It's just that when you look at the offseason is a whole, it's almost like the Lions have some sort of contempt for defense. Their defense should be significantly worse than last year, when they were almost the worst in the league.I guess we'll at least be putting up points.

The good news is...we will have another top 3 pick next year.

Damn right!

The Lions don't have to worry about Stanton choking under pressure in the 4th quarter since the Lions are usually way behind by then anyway.

Relax a little bit people. Lions still have 2 thirds, 2 fourths and 4 fifths. That's a lot of picks yet. Maybe Millen is going for the "if I draft enough picks some of them have to work out strategy."

A 4th rounder for the guy who was the 10th overall pick 2 years ago? Nice value there.
:goodposting: :lmao: :lmao: That's a fine post.
Because AZ fans know value.
 #2 Pick in 2003

#54 Pick in 2003
Oh so that's how it is? BBL
I'll save ya the trouble.2001

:lmao: We are gonna have a beer next time I'm in Phoenix.

We'll see if Stanton can stay healthy. Lions have done nothing to address their OL.
You must have missed their free agent signings.
Please tell me you aren't talking about the two OL who played a combined total of 7 games last year and the fat slow castoff from the Bronco's?
compared to the zero nfl games that rookies have played. Most analysts say there line is improved for this year. Not to say you can't always improve on OL.

:goodposting: Cool. Come on out Nov 11 for that Lions game. There will be plenty of reason to drink that weekend.

Are you kidding me? I liked the pick.. hell, I had him pegged for the Lions at the 2.02 pick before they traded it to the Bills... so they got an extra pick AND Stanton... his a good QB.. he has a young, exciting offense around him.. he is the future QB.. I like it..

Do they need defensive help? Absolutely.. they have a lot of holes to fill there still. Stanton I think helps solidify that offense. Now they can focus on defense for years...

Went to the game in AZ last year. That was really tough to sit through. They play in AZ again this year?

Just drafted a DE from Hawaiilink
Just traded up to get a safety too.
That they could have drafted late tomorrow. Idiots.
Honestly I don't know anything about him other than what was on nfl.com Anything you can elaborate on...what other players would have been better.

I didn't know anything about Gerald Alexander either. Just been googling scouting reports and every single one says late-round pick or backup material at best. It's not so bad that they took him, he does seem to fit the Cover-2. It's that they traded up from a spot where he almost certainly would have been available.

mayock had him graded out early third round. so not that much of a reach. he's a perfect fit in the tampa2. i think you'll be pleased and i bet he starts from game 1.

sounds like a good fit to me, but it does sound like they may have reached a bit. My guess is that Marinelli really wanted the guy so they moved up to make sure that they got him. Anyone care to give the Lions a grade for day one?

Even as much as I whine, I'd have to give them a B+.They ignored needs more than I would have liked, and the reality is that they're going to be awful again next season with that defense. But they did some nice trading and ended up with the best overall player in the draft, a QB of the future and some hope to have a good defense by 2010.

You know I got nothing but love for ya Sparty but....ah....The Lions have a great stadium. :banned:

Agreed, I was thinking B/B+. They made the smart move taking Calvin Johnson despite past WR failures. Stanton I have mixed feelings on and there seems to be different opinions about who was the third best QB so it could work out. It also looks like they started addressing their defensive needs with the two late second round picks. One thing I wonder is if they reached a bit for the safety at the end of the second round.

Not sure they should get as high as a B+.

I'd give them a C.

They took CJ -- good move. I don't hate the Stanton pick. But they probably could have kept a 3rd rounder and gotten Alexander. So that was a mistake.

And they still haven't addressed the desperate need for a pass rusher.

I really liked the Stanton pick. I think he is one of the top 3 QB's in the draft. I believe he will be a better pro than Quinn.

Having CJ is great although I wish the Lions could have traded down. But that's always easier said than done at the top of the 1st round. I do not understand why the Lions traded up in the late second for those two players. Both were graded much lower.

I give the Lions a B for this draft.
