U.S. Ambassador to Libya Killed in Rocket Attack (1 Viewer)

No, I think he is on to something. Republicans are trotting out all these folks in an effort to get them in a lie, not about security concerns or failing to act quickly enough, but about approved talking points 5 days later. But yes, they have evidence of Obama and friends watching in play out on the big screen eating popcorn and doing nothing. I guess they are just waiting for Obama's reelection to bring the evidence to light.

And so the unraveling of the Obama Presidency begins...

BTW, how much do you want to bet that if Obama would have ordered an attack that prevented the deaths he'd be accused of doing it only to win votes right before the election?

its not even that complicated. you can go back to like page 3 or 4 of this thread and find a link i posted on Sep 13th that this was a terrorist attack, well before Susan Rice came out and claimed it was a youtube video. I'm just a dude with an internet connection and some knowledge of terrorism, certainly not an expert but its an interest. So if i could figure it out in 48 hours, i'm pretty sure the admin figured it out well before me. And that's the problem, why did the admin lie? I mean it doesn't make sense to a lot of people that the admin would like about the cause of this, and why they continue to lie about details that have been reported. Obama didn't watch the video, he was asleep. Yeah, that's been reported also. This is one of those events where being a lib or a con shouldn't really matter, the facts of the case are just not good all around, its a mess.

I doubt the security camera video was streaming live to the White House. It was probably video footage they got from the scene. As far as the drones, it remains to be seen what they saw and still doesn't back up the whole, sat there and did nothing. If you read the rest of your article this is what it says
Senate intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein and ranking member Saxby Chambliss say they will hold at least two more fact-finding hearings before a public session to share what they’ve learned.

Neither would say if they are satisfied with explanations of why the intelligence analysis changed, from reports that a demonstration turned violent, to blaming the attack on terrorists alone.
Call me crazy but if they just saw evidence of what you allege, I doubt their concern would still be with the talking points.

not at the beginning of the attack (first wave when they set the consulate on fire) but they had the drone in position within an hour or so providing real time video from that point forward. They watched the 2nd attack when the ex-seals were killed.

They had video from the drone and real-time telephone reports from the CIA agents. I can't comment on the clarity of the drone video, but we gave seen some decent drone video in the [ast on different occasions...

Why do you dismiss everything he posts including credible links? What are you afraid of? That's not the attributes of a good University President.

on 9/14 after a briefing with the DoD/Panetta:

"I think it was a planned, premeditated attack," Senate Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) said. He added he did not know the specific group responsible for the assault on the complex.

McCain expressed a similar view.

"People don't go to demonstrate and carry RPGs and automatic weapons," he said, adding that the facts suggest "this was not a 'mob' action [or] a group of protesters."

Tunisia frees man held in Benghazi attack

(CNN) -- A man held by Tunisian authorities in connection with the deadly September attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya has been released by a judge, Tunisia's state news agency reported Tuesday.

Ali Harzi was freed Monday by the investigating judge overseeing the case, the TAP news agency reported, citing "an authorized source of the Justice Ministry." He had been arrested in Turkey in connection with the attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans.

In Washington, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland referred questions to the FBI, which she said "has the lead on the Benghazi investigation."

TAP reported that Harzi had been questioned by Tunisian authorities and the FBI "as a witness and not a suspect."

But a U.S. federal law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the Benghazi investigation said the freed man remains a suspect.

The fact that Harzi's been freed from detention "doesn't mean he's any less a suspect," the official said, adding Harzi does not appear on video taken of the Benghazi compound.

Investigators have identified at least 15 individuals that "we're taking a serious look at," the official told CNN, indicating some of them were identified on the video.

Ultimately, the official said, "we will get indictments, but it's not possible to put a timetable on it."

An independent review released in December found that "systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies" at the State Department left security at the Benghazi consulate "grossly inadequate" when suspected Islamic militants attacked the American mission on September 11.

A State Department official in charge of diplomatic security resigned after the report came out, and three others have been placed on administrative leave.

Nuland said Tuesday there has been no decision about whether to reopen the consulate in Benghazi, the cradle of the 2011 revolution that drove longtime Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi from power.

"Obviously, we are in touch with Libyan officials on all aspects of safety and security of our diplomatic facility, of our own posture there," she said. "As you know, for many months, we've been talking to Libya about our willingness to support efforts that they may have on their own, strengthening their own internal security structures on the police side, on integrating militias -- all those kinds of things. They have not yet availed themselves to some of these offers that we have made."

The attack also sparked a domestic political battle for the Obama administration, which initially attributed the attack to Muslim anger over an anti-Islamic video that sparked violent demonstrations in neighboring Egypt and other countries. U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice came under intense criticism from Republicans in Congress for delivering that account on U.S. news shows in the days after the attack and withdrew her name from contention for secretary of state in a second Obama term as a result.

Rice said her comments were based on declassified talking points, and sources within the intelligence community said the talking points were not modified by any other body, such as the White House.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, announced Tuesday that he would oppose the confirmation of John Brennan, President Barack Obama's pick for CIA director, "until our questions are answered."

"This ever-changing story should be resolved," Graham said in a statement issued by his office. "It is imperative we understand who changed the talking points just weeks before a presidential election and why. The stonewalling on Benghazi by the Obama administration must come to an end."

White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters later that the administration is working to hunt down the attackers and improve security at U.S. missions, dismissing what he called "the essential irrelevance" of the controversy over Rice's comments.

"The president is focused on those issues, not what seems to be the continued political fascination with appearances on Sunday shows," Carney said.

I shouldn't be surprised at the politicization of these kinds of hearings, but Paul is basically saying Hillary has blood on her hands: “I’m glad that you’re accepting responsibility. I think that ultimately with your leaving, you accept the culpability for the worst tragedy since 9/11, and I really mean that. Had I been president at the time and I found that you did not read the cables from Benghazi, you did not read the cables from Ambassador Stevens, I would have relieved you of your post.”He added, “It’s a failure of leadership” which cost the Americans in Benghazi their lives. “I think it’s good that you’re accepting responsibility-- because no one else is.”

That isn't the worst part. The worst part is in 2011 he proposed a budget that cut spending on the Dept of State by 20 billion dollars. Their core budget is 43 billion. So he proposed cutting their budget in half. I am assuming that would affect the security he is now so suddenly concerned about. ####### teabagger hypocrite.

I don't understand why Congress even wasted their time with this. I mean, didn't they get tim's memo that this story doesn't matter??

What difference does it make now that we called this a spontaneous demonstration against an offensive YouTube video they're dead!

I certainly hope you read some of the 1.4 million cables you receive or is that number so vast that you don't read any of them? Exactly what cable was Mrs. Clinton reading that was so important that she ignored multiple requests from an Ambassador concerning his security, in a rather tumultuous country that just executed its leadership? The tone of your reply makes me laugh and it is no wonder that you see no problem with her actions.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/clinton-refers-argo-explaining-benghazi_697577.html

"Marine security guards, as you know, are very much a presence on more than 150 of our posts," Clinton said, in response to a question about Marine securing embassies around the world. "And in order to give them the facilities and support they need--they need a Marine house. They need to be very close to the embassy. Because as -- if you saw the recent movie Argo, you saw the Marines in there destroying classified material when the mob was outside in Tehran."
I would have countered with, "well, if you've seen The Marine, starring wrassling star John Cena, only one Marine could have really made a big difference. He wouldn't have needed a stinking marine house to eff ish up."

Big Whiff for the Rs yesterday as they didn't do their homework and were too obsessed with this youtube lie. In fact, the lies from the administration and Hillary were so outrageous that they completely flumoxed the Rs who couldn't come back or have decent followups because they were not coordinated and (with a couple of exceptions) didn't do their homework.

she ignored
Did she state this somewhere?
What did she say BST? You are correct she said she didn't see them, how lawyerly of her. In much the same vain as SportHenry's 1.4 million messages; what was she reading; I assume the State Department's computers filter out viAAgraA ads. I know she said she was busy saving lives, hmmm....that is an interesting answer considering what happened. Listening to her get indignant, and question the question, is laughable. She decided to own this problem, and wants to be lauded with praise as her role as Secretary, but she (as usual) does not want to hold any responsibility for her actions, or lack there of. It is also interesting that she distanced herself quite a bit from Rice's statements, implying that there is an issue there, then at the same time downplays her similar actions. So to get back to your question of" did she state she ignored them?" Of course not, her slimy lawyer ways would never let her admit culpability, even if it was the case; instead she acts like not seeing them is a defensible act. I would hope that multiple requests from an Ambassador (you know, a pretty important position), would be able to get the ear of his boss. Maybe she should keep hanging out in South America, knocking back shots and dancing, showing all her important actions that allowed her to overlook multiple requests for security measures.

ptk is right. This line of defense is laughable. It's not like this happened in some random country, this was one of the hottest hot spots in the world, and following the military action, I would expect it to be one of the few closely monitored situations. Not to mention that there had already been some attacks and the Brits already pulled their people.

that this attack was a protest against a youtube video gone bad, as opposed to a coordinated attack (beacuse protesters always bring mortar guns and heavy artillery to a demonstartion).
