U.S. Ambassador to Libya Killed in Rocket Attack (1 Viewer)

So for the people that think this is no big deal, are you ok with no response. There has already been claims that one of the suspects has been moved to Tunisia and they are denying the US any access to him. If this is the end of the story and Obama does nothing, is that ok with you? Do you think that maybe he's holding off on doing his job because of the election? I asked 2 or 3 weeks after what was happening, now it's a month and a half later and still no response. Do you really think he's doing his all to find out who was behind this?
1. No. 2. No.3. No.4. Yes.

for what?

Pitt, what is the scandal you keep alluding to? That Obama wanted these ambassadors dead? Because that is pretty much what you and the other nuts are implying.

Tim, do you think that these questions should not be asked of the Administration; do you trust government implicitly, that it is incapable of scandal? I think there are real questions to be asked of the action, and purported inactions, of officials surrounding this story; saying over and over that there is nothing to see here really doesn't do more but beg more suspicion. I feel the same about F&F and I also felt the same way about Iran-Contra. I do not trust Government and oversight, even heavy handed oversight, is something I welcome. I also believe that the American public can recognize scapegoating, grandstanding, witch-hunts, stonewalling, incompetence, or even good intentions turned bad; it doesn't need to be patted on the head and be told everything is okay.
I do not think the government is incapable of scandal. But as I've stated from day 1, I'm extremely skeptical that scandal is involved in this story. I'm pretty sure some questionable decisions were made, but I doubt strongly that they were made by the President, or Secretary of State, or anyone close to that level. The problem with these congressional investigations is that they're always so politically driven, Fast and Furious being only the latest example in a long line. I expect if one arises from this story, it will be just like that one: completely inconclusive and a waste of taxpayer money. But I guess we'll find out.

Regarding the bolded: you just stated the Catch-22 with all conspiracy theorists, why you can never convince them that the conspiracy doesn't exist. Perhaps you should consider the possibility that the reason they say over and over that there is nothing to see here is because...there is nothing to see here.

EXCLUSIVE: CIA operators were denied request for help during Benghazi attack, sources say

By Jennifer Griffin Published October 26, 2012FoxNews.com

Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. consulate and subsequent attack several hours later was denied by U.S. officials -- who also told the CIA operators twice to "stand down" rather than help the ambassador's team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.

Former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods was part of a small team who was at the CIA annex about a mile from the U.S. consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack. When he and others heard the shots fired, they informed their higher-ups at the annex to tell them what they were hearing and requested permission to go to the consulate and help out. They were told to "stand down," according to sources familiar with the exchange. Soon after, they were again told to "stand down."

Woods and at least two others ignored those orders and made their way to the consulate which at that point was on fire. Shots were exchanged. The rescue team from the CIA annex evacuated those who remained at the consulate and Sean Smith, who had been killed in the initial attack. They could not find the ambassador and returned to the CIA annex at about midnight.

At that point, they called again for military support and help because they were taking fire at the CIA safe house, or annex. The request was denied. There were no communications problems at the annex, according those present at the compound. The team was in constant radio contact with their headquarters. In fact, at least one member of the team was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun when mortars were fired at the CIA compound. The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Spectre gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours -- enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operations forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.

oof. Looking forward to how this is explained. Fox News and all...can't possibly be accurate.
The only possible answer I can think of is that Obama ordered them to stand down himself, because he hates the United States and wanted the ambassador to die.
It was 4 hours between the first request and the last request. There were at least some people in the Situation Room during the attack on the safe house. If our President wasn't in the Situation room during that 4 hour period, or at least brought in the loop at some point during those 4 hours, then we have a MAJOR problem and there are a WHOLE lot of people that need to be fired.
I respect you as a poster, Grove. You're not a dumb guy. Do you truly believe that the decision for security when to the Situation Room, and that President Obama (or whomever was there at the time) deliberately decided to allow these people to die? Honestly, is that what you think?
So 5 hours after an attack on a US embassy started the Secretary of State and President had no clue what was going on despite the Situation Room in the White House watching live video from a drone and 3 requests for help being made by the local CIA team?Either they did and the decision to do nothing falls on them, or they didn't and our security and intelligence structure is hopelessly broken and someone in the chain that decided to sit on this for 5 hours without telling the President needs to be outed and rode out on a horse.

Assuming that the above story is to be taken at face value (and I am EXTREMELY skeptical about this) why do you keep bringing up the White House Situation Room? The article never mentions it. Why do you assume this incident ever reached the Situation Room?

OK, just so we don't argue over facts- if you guys can prove the following:

1. The embassy really did call for help from the CIA.

2. The CIA was instructed by high level members of the Obama administration to take no action.

3. The Obama administration deliberately chose to cover up this story, and blame the whole thing on a video which they KNEW had nothing to do with it.

4. The above 3 statements are the full truth, without any extenuating circumstances or larger explanation that would put them in a different light all together.

-then I, and hopefully anyone else who is not a complete shill for Obama, will acknowledge that there is serious wrongdoing here and I will join you and hopefully every other patriotic American in demanding a full investigation and punishment for everyone involved, even if it leads to the impeachment of the President.

But at the present time I don't believe any of this is true.

you're missing the point. the ambassador and others needed help. the cia wanted to go in there and help and asked 3 times to go and were told no each time. you don't think a platoon of marines or a ac-130 gunship wouldnt have broken this up?the ambassador had asked for help and the requests were either ignored or declined. the president and his administration were negligent.

what reason does the cia have to lie?
Maybe it's people within the CIA that want to get rid of Obama? Maybe the CIA knew the Libyan embassy was going to be attacked, and they used it as a setup to get rid of Obama?

Maybe they took the video that had been on YouTube for a while, translated it to Arabic, and gave it to the television stations knowing it would spark outrage and riots to coincide with the Libyan embassy attack they knew was coming?

Maybe they told their agents to stand down at the Libyan embassy in order for their plan to unfold?

Maybe they then told the White House that it was just a spontaneous response to the video?

Maybe ever since then they've been leaking these things to create a scandal to swing the election in Romney's favor?

Maybe Obama's the victim of the CIA?

The parts of this story:

[*]Embassy security

[*]Response to the attack

[*]The Administration response

Point 1 - Can be debated, obviously there was not enough, but the worst accusation I would hurl is incompetence.

Point 2 - Needs to be answered for, particularly who were watching the feeds and making decisions.

Point 3 - Is where the scandal comes in; why was the deliberately muddled message put forth from the administration? Who instructed Carney, Rice, and other, to continue the narrative when it was known not to be true.

Since I am reminded that as a public we should be forthcoming about our private matters "unless you have something to hide", or "unless you're doing something illegal", what is the problem of asking our government what happened to the four people who got killed? I think that when you get the parsed to outright deceitful responses from the Administration, not to mention people testifying before Congress to questionable actions, then it is reasonable to be suspicious.Really Tim, while I can readily see this story running its course, your steadfast denial of an issue is akin to FSM's "He didn't do it!" moment, in regards to Weiner.

Reports that the guards at the CIA compound were told to stand down and not to provide assistance to the diplomatic compound.

No kidding. More and more keeps coming out and tim would just prefer to stick his fingers in his ears and wish it away. He's been adamant for weeks that everyone should just drop it. It's bizarre.
whats come out in the past 72 hours?
The revelation that there might be a suspect and we are being denied access to him. Did you not see the link you requested?

Obama dodges questions on Libya during an interview with local Denver reporter-

In an interview with a Denver TV reporter Friday, President Obama twice refused to answer questions as to whether the Americans under siege in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012, were denied requests for help, saying he’s waiting for the results of investigations before making any conclusions about what went wrong. After being asked about possible denials of requests for aid, and whether it’s fair to tell Americans that what happened is under investigation and won’t be released until after the election, the president said, “the election has nothing to do with four brave Americans getting killed and us wanting to find out exactly what happened. These are folks who served under me who I had sent to some very dangerous places. Nobody wants to find out more what happened than I do.”President Obama told KUSA-TV’s Kyle Clarke large that “we want to make sure we get it right, particularly because I have made a commitment to the families impacted as well as to the American people, we’re going to bring those folks to justice. So, we’re going to gather all the facts, find out exactly what happened, and make sure that it doesn’t happen again but we’re also going to make sure that we bring to justice those who carried out these attacks.”Clark pressed again.“Were they denied requests for help during the attack?” he asked.“Well, we are finding out exactly what happened,” the president again said. “I can tell you, as I’ve said over the last couple of months since this happened, the minute I found out what was happening, I gave three very clear directives. Number one, make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to. Number two, we’re going to investigate exactly what happened so that it doesn’t happen again. Number three, find out who did this so we can bring them to justice. And I guarantee you that everyone in the state department, our military, the CIA, you name it, had number one priority making sure that people were safe. These were our folks and we’re going to find out exactly what happened, but what we’re also going to do it make sure that we are identifying those who carried out these terrible attacks.”Earlier today, Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin reported that CIA agents in the second U.S. compound in Benghazi were denied requests for help.

Thats what he should have done from the beginning.

I'm pretty sure some questionable decisions were made, but I doubt strongly that they were made by the President, or Secretary of State, or anyone close to that level. whats come out in the past 72 hours?
The emails?
Reports that the guards at the CIA compound were told to stand down and not to provide assistance to the diplomatic compound.
Uh those were unnamed sources from fox news. Also the CIA denied this.

Do you really think he's doing his all to find out who was behind this?
link?
for what?
There has already been claims that one of the suspects has been moved to Tunisia and they are denying the US any access to him.
I posted it a couple of days ago. Not sure if this is the same article.link
They are not denying anything, they are working out how to exchange the prisoner.
U.S. intelligence officials, along with members of the FBI, are in negotiations with the Tunisian government to gain access to al-Harzi or have the suspect transferred to the American detention facility in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
The wording of that article seems a little suspect

If you're saying that the President should of held off from commenting until he knew all the facts, you're absolutely correct. I do not know if not "understanding the facts" works for 6 weeks and it certainly doesn't here.

It is not the first time Obama puts incompetent people in charge and is clueless about what's going on.

It is also not the first time that he had to lie after the #### hit the fan.

Can we move on?

Number three, find out who did this so we can bring them to justice. And I guarantee you that everyone in the state department, our military, the CIA, you name it, had number one priority making sure that people were safe. These were our folks and we’re going to find out exactly what happened, but what we’re also going to do it make sure that we are identifying those who carried out these terrible attacks.”Earlier today, Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin reported that CIA agents in the second U.S. compound in Benghazi were denied requests for help.

Thats what he should have done from the beginning.
The Obama administration told the world it was a youtube video for almost 2 weeks. Have fun trying to polish that turd.
and he was wrong. What do you want or expect him to do?
I expect him to deal with it, not to get a free pass.
do you think he is getting one now?
I did not think he is getting a free pass, you asked what expect of him and I gave my answer. I believe that his administration is stonewalling on answering some basic questions and it is disconcerting; the press isn't really pushing him on these either.

Obama's approval rating has dropped 7 points in 3 days. Have wonder if this has something to do with it.
His employment approval numbers have dropped 7 points. That's not surprising as people go "Wait a minute, I still don't have decent job and this guy is acting like things are just fine."

:lmao: at Tim being so adamant about this being a non-story.

Can't remember someone being so wrong about something on this board....ever.

The second biggest part of this story is how the media has basically provided protection for the administration up to this point. No hard questions, no demand for answers.

At the very least you'd think they'd want to know why communication from, and within, the CIA is so f'd up. Too many people and organizations are being  on this.
