gotta hit woodley$109.02 $99.11 Pending 7/14/12 11:00pm Reduced Fighting 2101 Tyron Woodley -110* vs Nate Marquardt
yeah, i think he takes it too, but really hard to count Nate out. Especially with a 5 rounder. Nate packs some power in his shots too, Good test for Woodley
Tyrowned so far.
Probably 2-1 after the 3rd here for Nate. Tyron just seems to lazy in most of these fights. All i know is him mom is up 3-0 on me so far this fight, i have to mute these rounds because the combination of Frank Shamrock and her screaming is giving me a headache

mom needs to work on her stamina I think there was ten seconds or so midway through the third where I didn't hear her yelling

Oof. I don't see anybody in Striekforce beating Marquardt for awhile. He is going to kill a lot of momentum for any prospects they bring in there

Frank Clamcock: "a big kick that could have been a whisker shortener!"

this is insider-knowledge, pro commentary only an elite announcer can give.

Well anytime you bet a guy who is > +200 in a fight and he ends it on his own two feet you cant gripe too much.
I was surprised at kennedy tonight. I didn't see about half the fight, but from what i saw he didn't look like he was completely in it. He just seemed different tonight then his other fights, like he was kind of just going through the motions.

I followed via a blog and it sounded like he was beat soundly in rounds 1 and 2 and the early part of 3 (but he won 3). Might have had something to do with looking a little out of sync.

100-1 odds; where do you think hooter is tonight
If you had "watching Prometheous on acid at the local theater" please print the winning ticket.I was big on High and Marquardt. Would have been good to actually have seen the High fight.Lost big on Jardine and a decent size flier on Kennedy. I thought the true pre-fight light should have been closer to +180.

Looked like he had the same backpeddling game plan that Condit and Guida brought to their title fights. WTF Jackson camp? You need to beat the champion to take the belt.

New judging criteria:

Judging is a problem in mixed martial arts. In fact, it's one of the biggest problems the sport faces, right alongside the usage of performance-enhancing drugs and fights that are canceled due to injuries. You know it, and I know it. And luckily for us, it seems that the Association of Boxing Commissioners—the fine fellas who mostly determine the rules for the sport on a nationwide basis—seem to realize the problem as well. And they're doing something about it.The ABC is in the midst of their annual meetings in Clearwater, Fla., right now, and they've instituted a few changes to the rules that govern the sport. Here's a listing of the changes:•Effective defense is no longer a criteria for scoring. This means that defending takedowns or blocking submissions and strikes don't count for anything. Under the new rules, the only advantage that defense brings to the table is that it keeps you from being finished by offense. The only way you can actually score points is through offense.•Striking and grappling have been given equal weight. In the past, striking was always listed first as a scoring opportunity, thereby giving it more importance. That's not the case anymore. Striking and grappling are, from this point forward, to be viewed as equal offensive measures.•Heavier strikes will be given more weight than number of strikes landed. They're now classifying damage as "effective damage," which means strikes that do more damaged will be weighed more heavily than an overall strike count. Of course, this is still a visual thing, as judges don't have access to in-fight statistics.•Grappling moves that are scored heavily: Takedowns, reversals, submissions, transitions, activity and threatening moves from the fighter on the bottom and attempted submissions that lead to the threatened fighter being tired. In theory, this will put more weight on guys who play a great guard game and constantly threaten submissions off their back. Witness the Miguel Torres vs. Demetrious Johnson fight for example. Torres consistently threatened with submissions, and used plenty of sweeps and reversals from the bottom, but Johnson was awarded the fight because he was on top. This, to me, is one of the more significant rule changes.•Effective aggression is now defined. Aggression in the cage is now defined as a fighter moving forward and using legal techniques. Attacking with submissions or strikes on the ground is included.•Control is also defined. "Octagon control" means that a fighter is dictating the pace and position of the fight in the cage. One unfortunate note: The current 10-9 system remains in place. That's all fine and good, except for the fact that judges are still discouraged from using 10-8 or even 10-7 round scoring, even when it's more than warranted. I'd still like to see this changed, or at least see licensed judges feel free to assign those scores when they are needed. These rule adjustments are a good step, but there is still plenty of ground to cover before we have an ideal system in place. The biggest step lies in more education for judges, and that's something that only the commission can fix. I'm going to open this up for discussion. What viable rule changes or additions would you like to see in mixed martial arts? And by viable, I mean realistic, coherent changes. Don't tell me you want soccer kicks, knees to the head on the ground and the banishment of time limits or all rules. Those aren't viable options.

It is nice to see some of the athletic commissions trying some things to work on the issues with judging. The California commission is an utter joke, but i know they tried the .5 point system with their amateur bouts last year i believe as a trial run. Good call i think, because changing the grading to .5 points won't alter anybody's approach to a fight. Looking at the above, there are quite a few fights that would have gone differently. I believe it was Kim Winslow who had a system where you graded striking, grappling, and maybe octagon control all on a 10-point system per round. So a fighter could potentially get a score of 30 for each round per judge. I'm not positive that is the fix, but i know when i looked at her idea is seemed to make a lot of sense. As for tomorrow, i think i will be hunting a lot of the dogs. Boetsch at +300 is just stupid, and I like Barao quite a bit, but having Faber as a +160 dog is dumb too. Some other one's i like, the only other one with the line moving is probably Delorme at +130

Cromier's last Strikeforce fight is against....... :drumroll:...... Tim Sylvia! Opening line guesses? -950?
Dana White says this is untrue.
I didn't hear his interview, but i think he said something like it wasn't official yet or something. Certainly makes sense for Strikeforce if they are going to be stubborn and impede Cormier's career. I don't know who else you can throw him in against, I think Sylvia is still a recognizable name, so it makes a lot of sense. If Arlovski wasn't getting destroyed for the past year in Strikeforce i would say he could be the only other fight that would make sense.

I watched the bellator fights last night...it's a shame Paul Dailey can't control himself after getting beat. Guy is explosive and fun to watch

Excited for Barão/Faber and Lombard/Boetsch but UFC 149 is mad unimpressive apart from those two fights.

What I got:

Barão

Lombard (though Boetsch has been thwarting expectations lately)

Kongo (wouldn't be surprised if he lost though - just that kind of guy)

Ebersole

Clements

Won't bother guessing for the rest.

I agree with both of these. I like Barão and Lombard, I think both could be title contenders -- but for both of them this is a huge step into the spotlight against much higher quality opponents than either has faced. Lombard is on a massive streak lately, but to keep some perspective his biggest career wins have been against people like Kalib Starnes, Brian Ebersole, Alexander Shlemenko, Joe Doerksen and Trevor Prangley. Some ok names, but no huge names in his list.

i didn't see the weigh-ins, but i have to think Boetsch is huge when compared to Lombard. Lombard was always good at using his size to his advantage, but Boetsch will be bigger and meaner going in. lombard should be quicker, but it isn't like he is a technical striker anyway. I don't know who in their right mind would feel betting on Lombard -400 is a good idea

Injuries continue to rape the UFC. Aldo's out of the Koch fight on 149, so Faber/Barao moved to 149. 3 of 7 champs now on IR.
Driving 10 hours and spending $350 on tickets for this disgrace of a card :wall: . Went from a stacked cards to one of the worst PPV's.
Hope you're still going. the card has got ravaged, but there will be some real fun fights on this card. i think it will be a good night in terms of excitement for the fights. I think Lombard-Boetsch could be one of the most violent fights we see. Neither guy will play it safe in the octagon, and both throw with bad intentions

I bet every underdog on the card, seems most of the fights have close lines.

While there aren't many big names the fights should be competitive.

Not sure if y'all watching the prelims, but Clarke/Kuivanen is already more fun than nearly everything in UFC 148.
i got my dog to get a facebook account so i could start to watch these. i love between the fights where they show the crowd, funny seeing 2 girls dancing with everyone else waiting for the fights

Pulling for my buddy Shawn Jordan. He was a Full Back on the 2003 LSU National Championship Team. Took some classes together. Real Nice guy.

it will be a good one. i have to think Kongo fights a smart fight after getting KO'd by Hunt, but Jordan training with the Jackson camp should have him ready

FB stream kind of crappy for anyone else?
this was the first time i tried it in awhile. real smooth during the fight, real crappy with the in between
Really choppy through the first fight. Hit refresh a few times. Rebooted the router and modem. Still choppy. It seemed to freeze near the start of the 2nd. Refresh again and it was perfect.

reading the live blogs it sounds like the stream was horrible for most people

wow, that was a great defense by Gagnon there when he was caught in that triangle/armbar. never saw that before, shin to the throat is pretty effective

Jimmo worth -230 here?
i would have said no, but i would have been wrong. Stayed away from this one. Was tempted for the hippo, glad i didn't. I got Delorme for the next one, and can't get a good feel for McCourt-Ring. That is a fight i just can't figure out who has the advantage

Had to be one of the shortest left hand finishes in a while. I had to watch the replay again...it looked like Rivera pushed him down but Delorme was out so u know he got tagged.
