That was my initial thought, too -- but GSP has shown a tendency to get boxed up in early rounds.   Interesting fight.
I love GSP and can't stand Connor. But I don't see GSP winning this fight. He was very close to losing to Bisbing, and if he hadn't gotten that choke, he probably loses that fight. I don't see him beating Connor.

Bisping's takedown defense is good. I can see St. Pierre controlling where the fight takes place against McGregor.

I agree with both posts above.  If GSP keeps range and works takedowns, top game, and subs, he wins.

If he tries to throw hands he may get knocked into Bolivian.

Eh, GSP was carrying a lot of new weight last fight, and I assume that if he faced McG, it'd be at welterweight, where his cardio has always been on point - unlike McG's. Conor also wouldn't enjoy the reach and size advantage he's had against most opponents. As good as McG is, I feel GSP would tire him out and get the sub.

If GSP can take down Bisping and keep him down, I don't see how Connor stands a chance once GSP gets his hands on him.

Robert Whittaker out of UFC221 title defence against Rockhold. Romero to step in to fight Luke in Perth.

This sport is #1bullsiht.

Not a bad consolation fight for the fans.  I'm surprised they are making it a title fight, but they seem to be handing belts out like candy, so why not.  It's better to just give another belt than hear Luke  about how rediculous the UFC is.  If Rockhold wins, then all is good for an even more hyped unification fight with Whitaker in the summer.  However, if Romero wins, then we are looking at Romero vs Whitaker 2?  There are plenty of different opponents that I would rather see face off vs Whitaker before seeing that again.

so now they have DC commenting on fighters like Rogan did. Man i hope he wins his next one, Jones gets cleared, and they force DC to fight him again so he gets KO'd again and goes 0-3

Someone please teach Choi some head movement. Dude can't take those beatings much longer.
i can't remember the specific fighters with such non-existent head movement, but i think the last guy was one from Korea too that was almost painful to watch that fight. I wonder if it is something just not taught or what, but it seems like such a basic thing not to do.

ETA: for the life of me i can't remember that fight, but i'm pretty sure the guy was 1 and done in the UFC. it was really brutal to watch

He wasn't Korean, but bad head movement and a brutal one and done UFC fight makes me think of Koji Oishi (he got thumped by Nick Diaz 12 or 14 years ago).

yeah that sounds right. and wasn't trying to be ignorantly racist, was just remembering that guy with no head movement and thinking how honestly horrible that is to watch. that's nuts it was that long ago, but i know if i would have seen a few fights like that i might have stopped watching MMA.

Didn’t BJ come out and try that once? Against Frankie Edgar?

Hate to bring gambling talk into this UFC gambling thread but:

Somebody talk me out of Miocic +150.

I also like Almeida -115.

Looking over the Belly card for some value.

Miocic as a dog priced at +150 or higher has a ton of value IMHO. I think there are a few others in the gambling thread that concur.

It will be interesting to see if the UFC strips McGregor of the title (as he should be IMO) and make this the title fight.
As much as I am a fan of the McGregor spectacle, GTFO if you aren't going to fight. Not interested in hearing so much as his name unless it's a fight announcement.

Dana said he would be stripped.  I wonder how it will happen?  Will Dana say it at the Khabib & Tony press conference in Boston tomorrow?  Tony must have been told to #### on Twitter, because he has been hounding the "defending or vacate" for a while.  I would have expected a "that's right, vacate the belt your scared" or something like that.

Chicken move by McGregor to not defend here, but the UFC created this problem with their bs belts & CM push.  Now he runs the show.

The question is does CM do the trilogy fight with Nate before September?  A Woodley fight?  I don't see CM sitting until September.  There are rumors of Diaz back in camp.  CM also posed a pic of him at the gym, but this doesn't necessarily mean fight camp.

Hate that the new standard for UFC cards, even the numbered ones, seems to be "two big fights plus one or two decent ones". Zero interest in anything on UFC 220 apart from the last two fights and Almeida/Font. Burgos has looked impressive in his UFC outings, but he's in the main card against Calvin Kattar? Who? Also, the UFC will never ever make me care about Gian Villante or Bodão.

My guess is that that it’s CM vs the Khabib/Tony winner. I think Nate is old news. He’s the type of fight that would happen if CM cleaned out the division. The UFC should never let Woodley fight CM. Woodley is too big and too good. Whoever wins it’s a loss for the UFC. Woodley wins and now CM has lost 2 of 3 fights (3 of 4 if you count May). If Connor wins, you’ve now screwed up another division and a marketable fighter in Woodley.

In my opinion, CM vs GSP is the biggest fight the UFC could do for views/money. CM likely agrees to it because it’s the biggest money fight he can do in the UFC. GSP likely agrees because he has a distinct weight and strength advantage and a win puts his legacy as a front runner for the greatest of all time.

Tony/Khabib is who I think, CM should fight though. They need to clean up this mess of rankings and belts.

A few other good lightweights added to upcoming events.  Al Iaquinta vs Paul Federer.  I like Federer, but think Al is a better boxer & wrestler.  Federer is a good kickboxer but I think Al will be too quick for him.

& Porier vs Gatje.  I think Porier got screwed vs Eddie Alvarez, and I'm not sure beating up on a guy Alverz beats elevates him much.  I'm not sure why he would take this fight without insisting on a rematch vs Eddie.

Alvarez already said he has no interest in fighting Poirier.

He should probably just be ready to step in to the Ferguson Khabib fight when that falls out
