Jonathan Stewart was carted off the field with a right ankle injury in the second quarter of Sunday night's preseason matchup with the Jets.

Stewart was hit low by Jets SS LaRon Landry. The injury didn't appear significant at first glance, but we were obligated to post because Stewart was carted off the field. Though considered "injury prone" in some circles, Stewart has played in 62-of-64 possible games in his career. We suspect he'll be okay

I've read a few local tweets that Tolbert was getting ice on his knee as well, but haven't verified it.

Sigh... I hate preseason games.

If you didnt see it, dont overreact because he got carted off. No way he fractured his ankle or anything. It will be some degree of strain, if its a high ankle or a bad one....

BUMP DWILL!! /2009

Didnt look serious at all. I was surprised to see him being carted off. I actually excepted him to limp ack to the sideline.

I hear people saying it didnt look serious I dont know what replay you guys were looking at but on the instant replay from the front angle it looked pretty nasty and as he was ridin off on the cart he was still clutching the ankle!

Tauren Poole has looked good as well. I could see him getting some carries while Tolbert remains at FB

Edit: although he is currently sitting with concussion

I rolled my ankle last week, had the guys cart me off the jobsite for dramatic effect, will be back tomorrow at 90%. Based on my expertise in the matter, Stewart will be fine

He's hurt too. Was held out of this game. If Stewart is hurt, Poole could be the next in line if he can get healthy.

It did not look pretty...but know one knows a thing till the MRI and X-Rays (in case of a fracture in the ankle) But he rolled it hard. And grabbed around his heal area right away (hence the previous post thinking on the achilles theory).

Either way it can be really serious or minor. It's all speculation till we hear more tomorrow.

:goodposting: I completely agree with the bolded. Kevin Smith's looked pretty bad when it first happened...he barely made it off the field. Later, he walked to the locker room without limping.

That doesn't mean Stewart's isn't bad, but there is really know way to know.

That Bolded part Pure Genius!! lmmao I remember Jamal Lewis walking off the field laughing with teamates until the MRI said he was done for the yr!

So he's only missed two games in his career, but how many games did he play in but then leave due to injury? It sure seems like he's been nicked up a lot over the last 4 years and been rendered less than 100% in more than just two games due to lingering injuries.

It certainly didn't look like a high ankle sprain. It appeared (from 865 miles away) that it was his lower ankle. Like someone said, an old fashioned sprained ankle.

I seen it and don't think the other owner saw it, but when I asked about Williams he offered me Williams and Dem. Thomas for A.J. Green. I am not sure if I should do it or not.

Not as many as you'd think. The guy is always banged up, but he rarely comes out the game or misses much time. It's a running joke among Panthers fans about what kind of lingering injury Stewart will have every year that will keep him out of practice, but won't stop him from playing in the games.

From Steve Reed (former Panthers beat writer, now with AP)..

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart injured his right ankle late in the first half of the team's preseason game against the New York Jets on Sunday night.

The Panthers announced in the third quarter that Stewart was out for the rest of the game.

On first-and-goal from the Jets 9 with just over 2 minutes left in the half, Stewart took a handoff from Cam Newton and went down the right sideline for 7 yards before he was knocked out of bounds on a hard hit by LaRon Landry. Stewart stayed down for a few moments before being helped to the bench.

After trainers looked at Stewart's right leg, the running back was carted to the locker room - but was smiling at his teammates as he headed into the tunnel.
Not too much there, but the bolded part is hopefully a good sign.

He isn't in the same class as Calvin Johnson but Megatron is the same way.

WTH? Why would someone want to trade AJ for those two?
+1
I posted in the other forum with my full roster please look. I am not sure what to do.

I know what to do. Stop posting in the Stewart injury thread looking for trade advice. TIA

I would have thought Tolbert would get a few touches.
I read a note on twitter that he was getting his knee iced around the same time Stewart got injured, but I haven't seen anything else about it (even though I asked a couple panthers beat writers). I have been to the Panthers camp a number of times this year though, and Tolbert is being used in a lot of unique packages. My guess is that they are trying to avoid showing their cards too much on that front in the preseason, given how odd it is for a FB to be anything more than an occasional short yardage guy. I expect Tolbert to be a lot more than just a normal FB this year.

Taking the cart doesn't necessarily mean anything in the preseason. It's preseason for the cart people, too, so they cart off pretty much anyone, regardless of necessity.

Of course, taking the cart doesn't necessarily NOT mean anything, either. And it simultaneously doesn't mean nothing, but likewise doesn't not mean nothing. It's not like it never doesn't not mean nothing, neither...

Steve Reed reported that he's on crutches (I assume this would be expected though, since he has a sprain).

FYI: Tolbert had a bruise, nothing serious...so he'll be good to go if Stewart isn't.

Smith (expected back to practice on Tuesday...so he should be good for the season) and Stewart have already been announced as OUT for the final preseason game by Rivera.

Do you really need it explained? I wouldn't be surprised to see Thomas in the top 15.
Please stop. Take it to his thread instead of cluttering this one further. Thanks
