Underrated 80's/90's songs... (1 Viewer)

Not sure where all these topped out on charts and I am sure some are pretty well known... but meh

Golden Brown - The Stranglers
Everybody Knows - Leonard Cohen - the cover by Concrete Blonde is great as well
Head On The Jesus & Mary Chain - the cover by the Pixies is good too
Knowledge - Operation Ivy
Through My Fingers - Pegboy
American Life - Primus
Caught By The Fuzz - Supergrass
Some Might Say - Oasis
Fade Into You - Mazzy Star
Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now) - Cracker
Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want - The Smiths
Take the Skinheads Bowling - Camper Van Beethoven
Enjoy Yourself (It's Later Than You Think) - The Specials (a cover of a cover of a cover etc. etc.)
Where Is My Mind? - Pixies
Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers (another cover... but I don't think Stevie's falls in the 80s-90s timeframe)
High Plains Drifter - Beastie Boys
Cities in Dust - Siouxsie and the Banshees
Stuart - The Dead Milkmen
Hey Suburbia - Screeching Weasel
Tomorrow - Morrissey
American Music - Violent Femmes
Wings Of A Dove Madness (I find their live songs much better than their recorded songs)
Angry Johnny Poe
U-Mass Pixies
fantastic list
Thanks - it was hard to limit the list to just those. I could've easily quadrupled the number of songs but since I listen to the radio once in a blue moon I have no idea what sort of airplay the songs I listed actually receive. For all I know they are played all the time and I didn't want to pollute the thread with 100+ songs that aren't really underrated.

Bow Wow Wow - Do You Wanna Hold Me?

Everyone knows "I Want Candy", but I thought this other tune was far superior.
Has there been a worse move in music history for an up-and-coming band than Bow Wow Wow giving Annabelle the boot?

Better clip of the song. I don't think there's any question Gwen Stefani and No Doubt were heavily influenced by Annabelle and Bow Wow Wow.

Which albums? I don't think their early stuff is much like Bow Wow Wow.

One of my favorite bands and great tunes to relax to as you are heading off to bed...

Huge TWS fan. Always found it interesting that they had a second decent singer in Todd Nichols (lead on your second song, "All Right"), they never really did to many songs that used both of their voices as 'leads.' Similar to your first song "All in All."
Yes i think Todd did "crazy life" too if i am not mistaken? Great band!!

He did, as you can see in this video, he catches the amateur videographer totally off guard! And it seems like they really didn't seem to want to show him!

I get that the band is all white guys, but color me shocked that peens is a Toad fan.
Yeah, go figure but i like a lot of the softer stuff sometimes. I cant always have Tool blasting in my ipod...U2, Toad, Radiohead, third eye blind, blink 182 are always on the ipod somewhere.

Huge La's fan here. Timeless Melody is just unreal. At 3:15 into the clip. Unreal.

eta* If I'd remembered, they'd have been my Beatles-esque band in my WW draft over at Dealer's Choice. Great stuff.

eta2* I'd completely forgotten they were my favorite band in 2004. That's weird. Collected demos, everything. Hard to imagine that it takes a post on a message board to remind.

Years just pass, and memory is faulty. This whole album is more than worth a listen.

Good choice and good band.

1st band I thought of was Kix who were around long before their smash in the late 80s. But I see they have mentioned a few times.

I had this girl in HS who had a crush on me and she made me some tapes of their early work and I liked them a lot more than the girl.

Since I saw them open for Counting Crows this week, I'm going to say

Toad is good stuff. "Dulcinea" is a great, great album. Windmills is a non-radio hit that I would put up with any of their other more popular songs from that one like Fall Down, Fly From Heaven or Somethings Always Wrong.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGbvuSLtPJQ Kevin Gilbert's "When you give your love to me." Gilbert was at one time linked with Sheryl Crow, and a contributor to her breakout album.
whoa... he was one of my best friend's ex. died from auto-erotic asphyxia... and left part of his song-writing royalties from one or two of the Sheryl Crow songs to her- she bought a townhouse in Brooklyn with it. never realized he had his own thing on top of his collaborations.

Some diverse stuff here. These are three I was surprised to see, albeit pleasantly. Dangerous Toys? That was a weird band, in retrospect.
