Upcoming Dance Recital for my daughter (1 Viewer)

Baloney Sandwich

My daughter has a dance recital coming up in a few months and we are sending in money for our tickets. My wife was at her dance class yesterday and one of the other mothers was telling her how if you want to get the really good seats you need to buy the tickets at the box office when they go on sale. She went on to tell her that parents camp out the night before in order to get good seats. This mother is telling my wife how she is going to pay someone to stand in line for her. WTF is wrong with people?

FYI...my daughter is 3

It's probably a ruse. No one will send in money, which is where the good seats are, and a bunch of idiots will be camping out for nosebleeds. 9/10.

They sell tickets to a dance recital for three year olds? You have to be ####### kidding Me.
:goodposting:
When my daughter was little she went to a dance school and they had one recital for all of the girls, starting with the little ones and working up to the 16 & 17 year olds. The thing took hours...

ETA: Depending on the outfits of the 17 year olds it might be worth it to camp overnight for better seats.

What exactly are bad seats to a kid's dance recital? Is she performing at Madison Square Garden?

My first thought was "Who would camp out for tickets to a 3 year old's dance recital?"

My second thought was, "Who the hell pays someone else to do that?"

"I want to be a good parent. But in the worst way possible."

Is it a private or a city dance company? Here our daughter is in the Park District dance classes. Nice normal parents for the most part. But the private studios are crazy.

And you might get to meet Roman Polanski and Woody Allen!

The venue where my kid does her dance recital seats 2000 people and I'm pretty sure the thing sells out. They probably have like 400 dancers of all ages participating. Recital is like 4 hours long but my kid will be on stage for 10 minutes tops.

you don't want good seats for a 3 yo's recital... because then everyone will see you leave when her dance is over. :oldunsure:

The whole thing is a racket, they don't allow video equipment inside but you can purchase a DVD of the event for $50.
That is only the half of it. My friends ex-wife ran a studio. Between the costumes, mandatory lessons and all of the other crap, you are talking thousands a year. The recital is just the culmination of the a-raping that you are taking this year.

Cheer up, it only gets worse as they get older.

great, between that and the 5-figures I will be paying for both kids to attend a Montessori school life is grand.

Sounds like life is a few grand, actually.

This is where I'd explain to my daughter that life is tough and you don't always get want you want. Although if she saves up her money, I'll totally watch the DVD of the performance she buys.
