Urban Meyer - Free Agent (5 Viewers)

Due to the nature of coaching contracts, and the "morals clause" within, this would have been the easiest time for Kahn to do it. He could have cut bait now & not paid Meyer another penny, if I understand this correctly.

Huge mistake to take  wait & see approach. But then, this is the Jags we're talking about here.
Morals clauses are boilerplate and generally unenforceable.

Ah - ok, I was under the impression it was meaningful. On sports radio this AM they had an agent on who said the Jags could get out from the contract due to the morals clause and/or conduct unbecoming.

Publicly representing the team in a bad light, etc.

But I am not an attorney, so I'll defer to the experts.

I think Urban must have thought he played the Cincinnati Bearcats

Mike Florio weighs in on things

Pics in there I hadn't seen but nothing can be worse than the video although its implied he is flirting as he makes the rounds.

So Urban gets a pass this week in time for the Titans to come to town and the Yulee Bulldozer runs for 200 (again).

The postgame locker room implosion should be spectacular.

In the youtube comments:

A reporter interviewed a Jaguar player and he stated after Myer apologized to the players and Myers walked out of the room, the players died laughing and they knew the coach heard the players laughing.
FWIW agree somewhat with Chris, the team looked good for long stretches on Thu night (I was rolling out Cincy's D and it did NOT go as planned.)

So many bizarre moments already from Urban. Clearly this is going to keep being weird.

I'm entertained.

Meyer is on the way to a Saban like failure in the nfl, not because he likely can’t do it, but because he doesn’t have the patience to build it.
jimmy went 1-15 his first year.  Arizona had, what, 4 wins in the first year of kyler Murray and ck?  Any coach who thinks he can take a team picking first in that years draft and make them an instant contender (and have too thin a skin to see what’s what) is deluding themselves.
Meyer won't be winning 15 games in the next two years (let alone leaving on his own to the Owner saying he 'loved' him)...we'll see if he can get to the Petrino-like failure of 3 wins.  May be setting a whole new floor here.

What an embarrassment from the jump this was.
As much of an embarrassment Meyer has been, this whole thing goes back to the idiot owner who hired him in the first place.

I have no idea what got ###d out in that post. I think maybe I meant to say "screwed it up" and accidentally put a T at the beginning of "it"?
Either way you are ok.

Let’s face it Urban Meyer is t#ts up.

@APMarkLong: Jaguars coach Urban Meyer on his radio show today: “the conversations have been horrible … have to move forward and regain the trust.”

Jaguars so-called coach Urban Meyer said "the ownership of this team is with the players.”

During his weekly radio show with 1010XL AM, Meyer went on a long fake spiel about "earning the players trust back" following his viral videos after skipping the team flight and attempting to "move forward" with the locker room in unison. He also said "the ownership of this team is with the players," suggesting it's the 53-man roster that he singlehandedly ignored and destroyed that's to blame for Jacksonville's 0-4 start. Owner Shad Kahn reaffirmed his confidence (and disappointment) in Meyer on Tuesday but this fairy tale is headed in one obvious direction. A multi-score loss to Tennessee on Sunday would be damning.

This is the second time (Florio) I read someone say that this comment by Meyer is him blaming the players for being 0-4.

I don't read it that way, but whatever he's done. The question is how long before Kahn pulls the ripcord.

Some other random questions I might ask at the press conference...

-The white tank top look, so roadside diner dive in the backwoods look, not a classy woman or anything. She looks like a wannabe college student that hangs out at the bars but really isn't registered for any classes.

-Did Urban ever think he might want to get a jump on the Titans for next week? Extra 3 days to prepare, generally coaches do not get a vacation for a few days after a Thursday Night Football game, certainly he's not studying much tape.

The Michael SIlva feeds have been eye opening.

-Silva saying some players calling this a crisis point.

-Urban Meyer canceled the team meeting on Monday, players felt he was too scared to show up...that's really bad.

-He portrayed the woman in the video as just some random woman there dancing...also he claims they tried to get him on the dance floor but he clearly is sitting on a stool trying to enjoy a lap dance thru material.

-Players have lost respect for him

Maybe Meyer staged the whole thing knowing it would get out there on social media and he could get fired or resign so he could go coach USC or whatever college is ready to line up and pay the man.

He can just leave for a college job whenever he wants. He doesn’t need to do this.

The fact he didn’t fly back is so crazy to me. He’s coaching grown men who are doing this for a living and any bad tape put out because they’re are unprepared could effect them financially in the future. If they lose to Tennessee this week 45-0 or something this has to be over.

College coaches need to stay in college. It’s football, but it’s a different game.

When are we getting another health issue excuse for him walking away from the team?

Not just didn't fly back after a loss, but told the team it was a family situation. Then they find out what he was really doing while they were stressing over the loss.

Lie to the team and show them you don't care. Unbelievable.

First of all I really think this is overblown and as a Michigan grad I can`t stand Meyer.

Meyer was doomed to fail in the NFL just like  Nick Saban did and not because of a girl dancing on him.  The NFL is a brutal game in every way.   In college Meyer was getting the cream of the crop. Would be like a NFL team getting 5 first round and 5 second rd picks EVERY year.  Then the best of the third and fourth rounders.

Top that off with a schedule where there might be only 1-2 games a year that you even have a chance of losing.

I am sure Meyer already knows he made a mistake going to the NFL.   So if he gets fired after the season he collects millions that remain of his contract and goes to USC for more millions.

USC ain’t touching any of this.

He keeps using that word. “Regain”.

I do not think that word means what he thinks it means.

He never had the player’s trust. Or respect.

Reports are that after he’d speak to groups of players, they’d hurst out laughing when he left the room.

Regain? Ha.

If you type those words, please don't post it in this forum.
Hey Joe, this has nothing to do with your post, just wanted your take on things with Meyer.

-Do you think he should be employed right now with the Jacksonville Jaguars after what transpired starting with not flying back with the team to Jacksonville?  If you were in Khan's shoes would you release Meyer and move on?

Cheers!

They're just building the case to avoid lawsuit...he will be gone rather shortly IMO
They had a contract attorney on the radio yesterday.

Apparently they could fire him “for cause” at any time.

and regardless of the merits, Meyer can still sue. There’s no avoiding the lawsuit.

They should just do it now. Kahn’s a billionaire. He can afford to pay Meyer to go away if he wants to.

So if Meyer is still the coach, it’s because Kahn wants him to be. For now.

Completely agree.

Nope. They just makes him look like a dumb joke. The flight back is the problem.
and the 0-4 start, and the “stick with us” letter 2 weeks ago, and the hiring of that racist strength & conditioning coach, and…

I’m just sayin; it’s a lot. And it’s only week 5.
:pickle:

This is just quintessential Sunk Cost Fallacy. For a team struggling for credibility on and off the field, this should be simple - and could really be a "make hay" moment if they spun it correctly.

"The Jacksonville Jaguars aren't just an organization pursuing wins on the football field. We also endeavor to be something that our staff, players, and fans are proud to represent and support.

When an employee stays late, or player rehabs from injury, or parent buys a jersey or ticket as a gift for their child - we want that to be positively meaningful. They should feel that everyone is similarly dedicated to making the Jaguars a winning franchise.

When members, particularly those in the upper levels, of our organization damage that perception through self serving and questionable activities - it results in an untenable working relationship as it works in direct opposition to that camaraderie.

It is for these simple reasons that we have decided to immediately terminate the employment of the head coach. It is clear to us that the upward direction we intend for this franchise will be better served by having someone else at its head.

To our fanbase - we know have asked for patience more times than necessary. This is a continuance of the effort to get it right. Our focus continues to be on providing a team that you can be proud to support, and that you are proud to have represent your community."

Something like that...

In other words "We screwed up. We're sorry. We're not going to try to make chicken salad out of chicken poop. So we're just going to start over again...again."

So… must be that if we just remove “Not to get political,” from now on we can post anything then!

🤣
When I said "not to make this political" what I meant was "please don't take this post and run with a political angle from here on, because I am not starting a political discussion".

My point was to the morals issue at hand in the current Meyer discussion, and a statement of fact as to why what Meyer did might not be a bridge too far for Kahn, who's donations are a matter of public record.

I believe Joe took it to mean a "no offense, but" type of statement, where someone is guaranteed to offend.

I get that, and I apologize for being unclear.
