US journalist James Foley beheaded by ISIS (1 Viewer)

Pentagon spokesman just said that there's no military victory of ISIL - they will be defeated by good (inclusive) governance in the area and that will result in a rejection of their ideology.
:lmao: Pretty sure they took that out of play by killing anyone that rejects their way of thinking. We are run by hammerheads of the nth degree.
What would be your solution? Besides nuking them (I'm assuming that was not a serious option).
Whatever it takes to kill every single one of them. I do know that good governance will fail miserably. They want us dead so we better beat them to it.
But what does that actually mean? Its easy to say something like that on a message board. But how do you actually kill all of the ISIS members?

I don't know that answer. I'm not in the military but I'll tell you this much, we better have an answer or this will go on forever. Seems like they are good at rounding up their enemies and executing them. Seems like we need to do the same. Obviously these people try and blend in when confronted. That's the tough part.

What we need is a vaccine injection campaign! Give the all Hepititis C, or another more deadly disease.

Easy way is to capture a handful of these losers, put them to sleep, inject them with Ebola and then drop them in the nest. By the time they figure out what has happened, their eyes will be bleeding and their guts will have turned into jello.

Any that don't contract it will kill each other off thinking they could be infected.

I could get onboard with this.

I think we should just have a wizard put a magic spell on ISIS that stops them from hurting anyone ever again. That's every bit as plausible as the "just kill 'em all" plan, but avoids the hazy ethical implications of using violence to prevent violence.

This kind of magic-mongering has no place in civilized society. I am sick to death of the mystical-industrial complex running this country.

So if we aren't supposed to use violence to end violence, what is your plan? Timeouts?

Did you not read the post you quoted? It's wizards.

Are you saying that ISIL is creating enemies by killing their own people? That's not true there any more than it was true in Iraq or Afghanistan.

People will trust those who make their lives better, not worse, and join groups like ISIL when they don't think their government is working for them.

Regarding the violence issue, the fact is that these people by any normal definition are 'evil'. These people have no interest in doing any good and if they get into power - which is their only goal - then they will use that power to make people's lives worse.

What we are doing now is what we should have been doing all along. You don't 'nation build' by invading with your own troops and telling locals who their leader should be. The analogy I always think of is if France had invaded the colonies, wrote our Constitution and installed their favorite person as our 1st President.

They've beheaded another American, so I'd like to see us, to quote Gladiator, "unleash hell." Iraq, Syria ..doesn't matter. Bomb their heavy equipment, training camps, fuel depots. Give 'em 24 hours of destruction that lets them know we've got a little crazy of our own.

As my father said he'd have this solved in a day.

give him all the missiles and a ship. Ask if they are going to knock their #### off. No launch a missile. Now? No launch another. ...until they stop ... he's the best

I have no moral issue whatsoever with wiping ISIS off the planet. But we have to be careful how to go about this. Right now most Muslims in the Middle East are not sympathetic with ISIS. But if we were to invade Iraq again, even as part of a coalition, that might change. Even now ISIS has a lot of respect from young Muslims because they stand up to us.

I'm good with this. Not sure why we don't just drop the hammer at that point.

We already have drones flying all over the world, can't they program them to shoot heavy vehicles, new Toyota trucks, etc. in certain areas or something. It seems like all our drones do is kill civilians.

Sure, and once Amazon gets up and running we can all have bacon delivered to them.

how did shock and awe workout for us?

Got me. Killed a lot of really bad people. Maybe killed a guy who otherwise would have nuked Manhattan or something.

it did nothing but ruin a lot of buildings and kill a lot of innocents...you need troops on the ground ...cant win by bombing

I'm cool with ruining their buildings too. They've ruined a couple of ours.

we are stalking about ISIS ...right?

I like how ISIS is copying Marvel and now includes a spoiler on the next movie at the end after the credits.

Pretty sad how the best these tough guys can do is kill unarmed aid workers and journalists. Cowardice of peace.

Oh right. Yeah, they're way different than the other islamic extremist terrorists we've been battling for decades.

Can we just tell all Americans, especially the journalists and aid workers and tourists and the like, not to visit Iraq or Syria for a little while? This shouldn't be that hard. Turns out it's a big world, lots of neat places to visit, lots of interesting stuff to write about.

But the tide turns more in their favor when they commit an action like this and we don't respond. We see reports of a number of foreigners (including some from the U.S.) heading over there to join ISIS. Easy to be brave when you're hanging out with your buds, terrorizing some villages, buying a wife, etc. See how brave they are when bombs fall on them for a day or two. We can't win with shock and awe, but we can let ISIS and others know that we aren't going to stand quietly.

I guess we don't know if current strategy is working or not. Maybe we put such a dent in Al quaeda that we ended up thwarting some really bad stuff. To the point that they're not even the top enemy anymore.

Really no way of knowing. I have to thinking killing the really bad guys can't be a bad thing.

sure, I don't think many people would argue against that.

Where you lose me is when people post things like we should invade and occupy Iraq, or carpet bomb Iraq and Syria, or kill civilians.

True. But they're not going to stop. If we totally pull away, they'll butcher their way through the middle east. Maybe we can stem the tide while also trying to build some support from others in the region (as difficult as that would be). This whole thing is just FUBAR.

How would you describe "current strategy"?

I heard about the new video, did Obama speak out today? Is he formulating a plan? Is he consulting with the military generals? I would like some answers.

33,561 Americans died in automobile accidents in 2010.
How many were beheaded in the process? Let's get this down to a real number.

I get your logic but is this really the time for it? A band of thugs is forcing American captors to say propaganda at knife point and then beheads them anyways. I'm sure an old lady slipped on a banana peel and died but that doesn't mean we close down the produce departments at Whole Foods?

Pretty sure ISIS would as well.
Don't even think it. Roll the tapes in 1991 as the United States woke up to George Bush announcing he already took action. This President doesn't use the bathroom until he has consulted with at least a half dozen people first. He hasn't been ahead of this, not once. Sure he managed to hunt down OBL and maybe anyone who was sitting there would have gotten him but at the same time he seems to have allowed this group to assemble and get far too organized. This is going to require a lot of man power and ground troops. Wait until they get ahold of some of our boys in uniforms. This is gonna get ugly.
