US Men's National Team (11 Viewers)

I know we focus on Pulisic because he is doung something historic for Americans but I think we need to give some real kudos to Yedlin.

He has now started 10 straight games which were pressure packed because of relegation threats and has performed solidly overall.   This loan worked out better than most could have predicted.

I am interested to see if his play will translate at the Copa this summer.
I'm interested in seeing what happens to him next season.

I assume Tott will take him back for camp to reassess... before sending him out elsewhere again?

hard to say on number 1.  By listing Pulisic and Zardes as forwards, he seems to be thinking of a 4-3-3 or more likely a 4-2-3-1.

maybe something like this?

...........................Guzan

Yedlin..........Cam......Besler/Brooks.......Ream

...............Bradley............Jones

Fab................Dempsey...............Pulisic

.................Jozy/Wood

Of the forward group, how many do you think he'll keep, 4 or 5?

That is the general consensus.  Slight chance they would sell, and slight chance he could beat out Trippier.

Best case for him might be for Sunderland to survive this season, and he returns to them next season.

I actually think this is a lineup to get excited about with our biggest hole at LB.  The only exception I see - I don't think Dempsey at CF is going to work.  I think he needs to be ST and ST only.  Let him do his lolly gagging around with the occasional press forward when we actually build up from time to time.  Otherwise I'm afraid putting him at CF is going to require him to do too much work.

Is it crazy to slot Pulisic in at CF?? :oldunsure: He's looked comfortable all over the field, but that's a tall task for the youngin'...  Wood looks best on the wings; I'd much rather see him out wide than in the middle.

tall ask for pul, IMO.

and didn't wood look out of sorts on the wing last game? my memory is struggling here.

if angry, inspired dempsey of the return guat leg shows up- I'm all for andy's lineup with him in the middle.

btw- that trump ad for the copa is brilliant. first time I've really thought about that lineup above facing off against SAmerica's best. yikes.

While I almost wish at his age that someone would push him aside, Jones is in complete FU mode this season.  He obviously is pissed at the Krafts/MLS/refs/whom ever and is playing his best soccer in a couple of years.  He should be a solid choice for at least the Copa.

good to hear. I haven't seen him play yet this season.

he has serious ants in his pants after having to ride out the suspension, being blocked from going to Germany and being (in his opinion) low balled by the Krafts.  I don't know how far the added motivation will take him.

As he did in NE, he appears to be lifting Colorado nicely.  They have picked up 7 points in the 3 games he has played and sit in first place in the West.

I think Deuce is a sub at this point. He's not productive enough, nor can he create enough chances on his own, plus his defence is lacking.  Keep him on the roster and use him around the 60 min mark in grames when you're trailing.

I'd rather see Nagbe, Morris, Wood, and Pulisic get more time. Wondo should not make the 23 man roster. He's not good enough, plus that miss in the WC cannot be forgiven.

I'm sure he beats himself up over that more than anyone, but I don't care.  He can't be on the team going forward.

From ESPN

With less than two weeks until U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann finalizes the national team's 23-man roster for June's Copa America Centenario, let's cut right to the chase: Here are 11 players helping (or hurting) their chances of either surviving the cut or making an impact when the high-profile tourney kicks off on June 3.

Warming up

Alejandro Bedoya, MF, Nantes (France)

Why he's here: In his 28th appearance of the Ligue 1 season (22 starts), Bedoya scored his third goal and went 90 minutes, then led the Nantes faithful in a rendition of "I Believe."
What this means: Bedoya, 29, has been the most consistent American in Europe this season, which concludes for his team this Saturday at PSG. He's a near-lock to start for the U.S. this summer.

John Brooks, DF, Hertha Berlin (Germany)

Why he's here: Brooks shook off the shin problem that had sidelined him for two games and went the distance in Hertha's 2-1 loss to Darmstadt.
What this means: His return to action is great news for the national team but it was only the third game Brooks has played since Mar. 19. But while there must be some concern about his match fitness headed into the summer, another 90 minutes in Saturday's season finale at Mainz will help allay those fears.

Geoff Cameron, DF, Stoke City (England)

Why he's here: The versatile 30-year-old has bounced around three different positions for the Potters this year, but he played his second consecutive game at center back in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace.
What this means: Cameron had been at right-back and defensive midfield before the latest switch but the chance to get quality reps in the middle (the spot he's expected to play for the U.S. this summer) could be huge ahead of Copa.

Timmy Chandler, DF, Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany)

Why he's here: After missing his team's last two games, Chandler came off the bench and played the final 21 minutes of Eintracht's important 1-0 upset win over Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund.
What this means: With Fabian Johnson injured (more on that below) and few other quality options at left-back, Chandler's late-season return to action could land him one of the last spots on the Copa roster even if he misses the start of camp.

Clint Dempsey, FW, Seattle Sounders (MLS)

Why he's here: Dempsey scored his first goal since April 2 (and second in eight games this season) in the Sounders' 2-0 win against the San Jose Earthquakes.
What this means: For a player who lives on goals, Saturday's strike should Dempsey should get a healthy boost of confidence heading into his last two games with Seattle before reporting to U.S. camp.

Jordan Morris, FW, Seattle Sounders (MLS)

Why he's here: With a goal in each of his last four games, there isn't a hotter American striker anywhere right now.
What this means: Morris' soaring confidence at the professional level is a boon for the U.S. entering Copa. It means that the 21-year-old is now making a case for at least a regular role off the bench at the tournament.

Michael Orozco, DF, Tijuana (Mexico)

Why he's here: Last weekend's scoreless tie at Atlas marked Orozco's third consecutive start since making his season debut on April 22.
What this means: It's no secret that Klinsmann likes Orozco, so it's not impossible that the 30-year-old's recent playing time, combined with the squad's serious full-back shortage, could have the coach seriously considering the veteran.

Cooling down

Mix Diskerud, MF, New York City (MLS)

Why he's here: Diskerud has been rooted to NYC FC's bench lately; he was an unused sub in Sunday's 2-0 victory in D.C. and has played all of 63 minutes since mid-April. City's two-game winning streak figures to keep Diskerud out of Patrick Vieira's lineup in Portland next weekend, too.
What this means: The 26-year-old has long been a U.S. regular, but it's hard to see how Klinsmann could justify putting on the final roster at this point.

Brad Guzan, GK, Aston Villa (England)

Why he's here: Guzan reclaimed his club starting job in March after losing it in January but has been back on the bench for Villa's last two games.
What this means: The timing couldn't be worse for the 31-year-old, especially with Tim Howard -- who might already be the favorite to start for the U.S. next month -- scheduled to play in Everton's season finale next weekend.

Fabian Johnson, DF, Borussia Monchengladbach (Germany)

Why he's here: A groin injury has kept Johnson out of his club's last two games.
What this means: Johnson's status is a real and growing concern for Klinsmann. Not only is the 28-year-old arguably the best American player, he's about the only decent left-back option the U.S. against all-world wingers they'll likely face this summer. Not having him available or at his best this summer would damper American dreams of a deep run on home soil.

Matt Miazga, DF, Chelsea (England)

Why he's here: He's dressed seven times and played in two games (for a total of 135 minutes) since joining the Blues in January, but the 20-year-old has not made Guus Hiddink's bench for Chelsea's last two Premier League games.
What this means: Despite stiff competition for places, there's still an outside chance Klinsmann could extend a Copa invite to one of the country's top prospects. A cameo in one of Chelsea's last two games would help.

Jones and Bradley are both playing well in MLS and are both liked by JK so I think it is safe to say both are going to see good minutes in the 6(+) games coming up.

What makes this interesting is that Jones is playing better in an advanced role in Colorado and Bradley is playing better is a much more withdrawn role (he is sitting in front of the back 4 in TFC).

We know JK prefers Bradley in the advanced midfielder role so this should be interesting to see how it plays out at the international level this summer.

Where was Pulisic on that ESPN article?  How can they not mention him at all?

Also, knowing JK he will play Bradly at striker and Jones at LB.  Because he knows more about soccer (futbol) than everyone else on the planet.

I think the idea of the article is to highlight changes from the previous article on the same topic.  I guess the author figures nothing has changed (either up or down) since the last time Pulisic was listed in the article, and that is probably true.

Tomorrow seems to be a big day for Miazga, as Chelsea plays a for-pride-only game at Anfield with John Terry suspended and first choice fill-in Ivanovich injured and not making the trip. That leaves Miazga, an out of position Mikel (terrible option) and a few youngsters, none of whom has ever played at the senior level, to slot in next to Gary Cahill. It actually would be a pretty bad sign imo if he didn't start this game.

Nope - not even on the bench today.

======================================================

And Colorado (with Jones) won again last night which raises that number even higher.  Colorado has the best record in MLS now.

So it looks like Dortmund bought a stud young attacker who apparently plays on the wing. Hopefully it doesn't hurt Pulisic's playing time next year.

Do we have concerns that it will be hard to loan him out given that clearly Chelsea did not feel he was ready to play this year?
I don't think it will hurt Miazga at all in terms of a loan. There's plenty of film on him and Chelsea has good connections in places like Holland and Germany. The fact that he has an EU passport will help.

The biggest concern I have with Miazga is the circumstances of his transfer to Chelsea in the first place, and his association with quasi-agent Kia Joorabchian. This guy was involved in the Tevez fiasco, had ties to TPO interests and seems just generally very shady. He represented Ramieres and several other Chelsea players, has ties with Man City, and is moving more and more into MLS. When Miazga came to Chelsea, the deal seemed tied to two other Chelsea transactions involving Joorabchian clients - Ramires going to China for a ridiculous fee and Pato strangely coming to Chelsea (confusing?) - all happened within about 24 hours of each other completely out of the blue last winter. It seemed to me he was perhaps somehow mixed up in a mutual backscratching arrangement between Chelsea and Joorabchian, and it seems possible it wasn't transacted completely for football reasons.

He doesn't seem to play on the left, which is Pulisic's preferred side.  Besides, with all the hype, Pulisic is an asset.  The one thing they're not going to do is just have him rot on the bench when they could, at the least, get a good transfer offer.  If I had to guess, I'd say it's more likely that they'd actually listen to knock your socks off offers for Reus or Aubemeyang now.

Crap, Bob Bradley missed promotion by a pubic hair. :(

Going into the last game of the season, Le Havre was in 4th and 3 points behind Metz and down by 6 in GD.

Metz lost 1-0 and Le Havre won 5-0.

That put them level on GD but Metz got promoted because they scored 2 more goals during the year as the second tie breaker.

Le Havre had chances for the 6th goal, hitting the post 4 times and having an injury time header from their own keeper saved off the line.  One more goal would have seen them promoted.  Would have been a fantastic feat for Bradley after taking over in November after a poor start.

On Bradley...

he took Stabaek from freshly promoted from the Norwegian second division to the Europa League in two years—and he got Le Havre, a midtable side for the past few years, to their best league finish in a decade.
He did good work with Egypt too IMO.  I'd hire him in a heartbeat if I had a team.  Hopefully he'll get a shot in one of the big four.

Second leg of the Bundesliga U19 semi final was today.  Dortmund was down 2-1 after the first leg but won 2-0 today to advance to the finals.  Pulisic scored in the game.

From the Mirror :
"Sunderland will offer Spurs around £2million to turn DeAndre Yedlin’s loan move into a permanent deal.
The 22-year-old USA international joined Sunderland in September after finding himself behind Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier in the pecking order at White Hart Lane."

====================================================================================

I think that is less than what Spurs paid for Yedlin so I am not sure this makes much sense unless Tottenham sees no future for the kid and will cut their investment cost in him as much as they can quickly.

I still feel like a season long loan would make the most sense for all parties.

Make shift roster for friendly against Puerto Rico.  7 players not on Copa roster

Squad for friendly vs. Puerto Rico:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Colorado Rapids), Zach Steffen (Freiburg)

Defenders: John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest), Matt Miazga (Chelsea), Michael Orozco (Club Tijuana), Tim Ream (Fulham), DeAndre Yedlin (Sunderland)

Midfielders: Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Emerson Hyndman (Fulham), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Monchengladbach), Perry Kitchen (Heart of Midlothian), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), Caleb Stanko (Freiburg), Danny Williams (Reading)

Forwards: Paul Arriola (Club Tijuana), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Fabrice Picault (St. Pauli), Amando Moreno (Club Tijuana), Bobby Wood (Hamburg)

A couple of stories floating about with Sunderland going to make an offer to take Yedlin on a permanent transfer this summer.

Seems like it would be tough for him to break in front of Walker and Trippier at Spurs, but Poch was livid after the Newcastle debacle, and intimated that everyone's job was on the line this summer (probably not Kane's).

While the roster for the PR friendly is a bit makeshift, I think there is a chance that we could see the starting back 4 in the Copa

Yedlin.......Cam.......Brooks..........Ream

I have also read speculation that Cam might need some time off and may not play this weekend.
