US Men's National Team (7 Viewers)

ok. before kickoff, I was hoping for a point here.

but they should and need all three. El Sal just not at the same level and the US should be ripping them apart.

Dest has been a let down so far.
Seems like he's been asked to not get forward too much. Perhaps to provide defensive cover for Ream?

Overall, not a lot of link up between backfield and up front.

Dest and Swag a little disappointing, nothing major.

Sargent is Sargent, just doesn't make anything happen.

Robinson needs to put that opening header in the net.

Like what I see from most of the other guys.

Some good, some bad, a couple of ugly (Turner's feet, our shots on goal).  Not bad and I have liked GGG's adjustments coming out of half recently.  Look good for a point at least.

Interested to see if we are shy with the subs or what. Something feels off about the midfield. He's been fine but I think I'd take Aaronson off for Roldan

dunno. where is he supposed to attack? with the US playing so laterally compressed, there's no width there for him...well, there is, but he and Konrad keep pinching in.
He’s either in Konrad’s face or stuck at midfield retreating back late.

No way. Aaronson has been one of the better players out there.

The tactics seem off.

That said, this seemed pretty "safe" and that's ok. It's the first game. It's away. I think we open it up in the second half.

I'd move Aaronson to the left and bring on Acosta or Lletget.  Or make a straight swap.

They look pretty disjointed, but credit to El Salvador -- it looks like there are 15 of them a lot of the time.  Very little time on the ball and they've scrapped it up pretty good.

The US has created some decent almost opps, but haven't gotten good shots out of them yet.

Monterroza had to work pretty hard for the yellow, but he managed to get there.  Chase your dreams I guess.

Turner literally wasn't on camera until like the 14th minute, but after that it was fairly even, even though the US looks like the better team.

Overall, pretty typical away WCQ so far.  But credit to ELS for not bunkering and trying to play.  Really not a ton of gamesmanship or thuggery.

Dest, Konrad, McKennie, Aaronson need to find quicker passes and stop dribbling so much.  They aren't consistently finding each other fast enough.

Need to move the ball quicker in the final third. We are killing them on crosses. Just cross the #### out of it first time and we will score.

If you’re playing Dest as an inverted LB, then he’s the guy who has to pinch in. I actually think he’s stayed too wide. He and KDF are definitely getting in each other’s way.

He needs to today. He's got the tactics wrong. We need to be more direct because we have all kinds of space after the field gets stretched but he has the wingers checking back rather than playing through.

really?

I think he's been bad tonight. keeps over dribbling and losing it. and keeps making runs on top of his teammates. but I think the team shape has been off, or at least collective understanding of it. but he's suffering more than swag, Adams or gio.

yeah, I'm not gonna pretend I know anything about tactics, but it definitely doesn't look like we have proper spacing.

Like what I've seen from Konrad. Nothing crazy great but he's letting the game come to him. Aaronson showing a little bite is good.

Need to see more from Gio. He's gotta be the one to make the killer pass from this group.

He had a couple of decent plays at the end of the half, but not enough good holdup play from Sarge.

Dest is obviously incredibly talented but he just seems soft to me. I really worry that he's gonna constantly melt in these away qualifiers.  It will be too humid or he'll get kicked a few times and just kinda mail it in.

We figured it wouldn't be easy. Just gotta keep our heads and hopefully do some damage in the 2nd half. I get that we could get to Qatar just by tying all our away games, but our talent advantage is so obvious here. A tie would feel like 2 points lost, even without CP.

John Muller

@johnspacemuller

Aaronson completed only five passes in that half.

that is no where near enough for a guy in the middle.

ELS not parking the bus but Def playing the counter.  US not recognizing it.  RB is just blasting the ball.  If ELS is going to sit back for the counter, work it around and make them use their subs.  US hasn't strung more than 3 passes together.

I expected a little more.  No midfield distribution.  At all.  Even back.

Damn… Sargent looks like a PGA pro walking up the fairway. Yedlin pretty dark lazy too. Got press a crappy team like ELS

I think he's defensive presence was really solid but maybe I'm seeing more than there was.

Agreed he hasn't done much offensively.

the halftime coverage on the Mexico Jamaica feed is just an overhead shot of an empty Azteca. Kinda cool.
