Pardon the rough translation here. How would this be for a landing spot for the big guy?

========================

Brentford is in negotiations for Brandon Vázquez, an American player from Cincinnati FC (MLS) who was offered and is very liked by the scouts and IDs of the English Club.Vázquez's desire is to emigrate to European football. At this moment, the issue of Mexico is not even touched on as an option.Management in process.

Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Fulham over the possibility of signing USMNT defender Antonee Robinson in January, who's open to the move. With Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson out with injuries, Jurgen Klopp’s side has no natural left-backs at their disposal.
This may be the year to move, but this would IMO, be a really really bad one and I don't really believe it. Seems like a rumor made up by an agent because Robertson is expected back in January.

Toney is coming back soon but I think he is pushing to move on from Brentford. Not sure this is the right level for Vasquez but I think he is probably better than Neil Maupay and he's been getting time as of late, so I can see this.

If the bottom of the EPL weren't so bad though, I could see Brentford getting dragged into the relegation scrap. They really aren't all that good. But Vasquez seems like the kind of striker the yo-yo teams regularly employ so maybe that makes a ton of sense.

Every time I look at BBCs rumor page, Toney has been linked to just about every team in the EPL going back a ways. So I think the opening will be there.

Is Vazquez good enough to roll at prem level? I guess that's what we'll hopefully find out.

And I saw the Jedi to Liverpool rumor too... Not the first time, tbh. Would be super cool for him, but if it's as emergency fill-in support, doesn't seem like the best long term move.

Going from not really impressing at Leeds to being named the best Juventus player of the first half of the Serie A season by Tuttosport is so on brand for McKennie. We say it a lot about Dest, but Wes is similarly a "vibes" type of player. He can go stretches where he doesn't really look like a guy who does anything better than an average midfielder. And then there are stretches where he's like Arturo Vidal.

Not watching, but it appears Richards is having another solid game for Palace as they are winning 3-1 today over Brentford.

Could be a big result as both teams are in a bad patch and getting dragged into the relegation battle. Palace had only picked up 3 points in their last 8 matches leading into today. Brentford had lost 6 of 7 and now looking like 7 of 8.

They weren't joking when they said they liked him in that position.

If he really does turn into a legit #6, what a boom it would be. We have enough quality CBs, so this is potentially big.

The fact that Richards has been pretty much the default starter at CB along with Ream despite not getting games there at Palace would suggest that we don't really have enough quality center backs. I still trust Ream. I think CCV has done well enough. But the cupboard is a little bare otherwise. Trusty? Zimmerman? Miazga (admittedly very good in MLS but has consistently been terrible for the US)?

It's nice to have a swing player who can play both roles as Cameron used to be able to, but Johnny has just signed with Betis to play the same role. I imagine he's probably the backup.

EDIT: Yeah, Miles. But he hasn't really been the same since the injury, IMO>

McKenzie is another CB who has struggled to match his club form for the US.

I believe that was Pulisic's 6th league goal of the year. That now ties him for his 2nd most league goals in a season in his history. 9 league goals is his highest and if he can keep up this streak of health, that appears fairly easy to break.

He is also doing well historically on assists. He has 4 this year which is tied for 3rd most. 7 was his most.

He could, fairly realistically, in one season set his individual records for both goals and assists (no whammy's)

He is... right now... Milan's best attacker.

Obviously Leao is the more talented player, but Pulisic is outplaying him.... by quite a bit this year. Giroud is still quality, but he relies so much on others setting him up and while he has 8 goals to CP's 7 in all comps this year, 4 of those came from the spot.

I don't think we, as USMNT fans, could've hoped for a better landing spot, nor a better reaction to a new opportunity from Pulisic this season.

The entire Italian quartet has been $$. Two guys on two of the top teams. They get experience playing together (Pulisic/Musah and McKennie/Weah).

The domino effect is huge. Champions League play likely for both teams. Italian teams maybe more likely to bring over Americans moving forward.

Between this and our PSV contingent, it's amazing how well things have gone this year in terms of club form.

It seems things are going fantastic for him in Milan, but he had 11 goals and 10 assists in his first season at Chelsea (all comps). He made the shortlist for EPL Young PoY and that summer the club shipped Willian and gave Pulisic the #10 shirt. Its easy to forget how great that first season went for him in London because it ended somewhat negative for him overall in England. He's older and hopefully wiser and maybe even stronger now. I don't think he's had a significant injury yet at Milan. It could be him entering a new phase in his career but part of me is still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I don't think we're loaded at CB.

But we are a LOT more bare at the #6. If it's not Adams, I don't even know who the #2 is at this point.

If Richards was out at CB, I'm not losing sleep in starting CCV, Zimm, Miles, or McKenzie even. No Adams is a much bigger deal at this point. I don't know if Richards fixes that, but I like that it's at least an option.

Hopefully Milan doesn't have Tuchel's number. And that CP will never again be parted from his Beard Daddy.

It's weird. Twitter knows me enough that Pulisic is almost always a trending topic for me. And every game there are plenty of Milan "fans" trashing him. Sometimes, it appears to be Mexican Milan fans, so OK. Sometimes it's maybe dual Milan/Chelsea fans (still lots of people passionate that Mudryk is miles better, which is weird). He still appears to be an objectively divisive figure despite outplaying Leao statistically and also, in the games I've seen, in the eye test.

For context, Vinicius Jr. was 10G and 10A in 38 La Liga games last season. He did have an excellent Champions League though. I think Pulisic at this, pretty much completed level, is a 12/8 type of player given 35 games or so.

This is probably really stupid of me but I always think of Pulisic and Arjen Robben together since both arrived at Chelsea about 20 years old and had success initially and showed moments of brilliance and won some big trophies but ultimately both were let down by fitness and availability. Robben was also shortlisted for young PoY his first year at Chelsea. He lost out to Wayne Rooney whereas Christian lost to TAA. Although Robben had a short stay at Real Madrid after Chelsea, where he was also too-often injured, he found his place and his fitness at 25 years of age when he got to Bayern, the same age Pulisic is now.

This would make him one of the best wingers in the world.... For comparison sake..... Kvaratskhelia had 12 goals and 10 assists in Serie A last year and it was considered so impressive that Napoli set his price at €100M last summer and supposedly had a deal with Newcastle in place that Kvaradonna turned down.

Juventus win 1-0. Weah and Weston* both go the full game

* Weston was subbed at the very very end of game late in injury time due to an injury....hopefully it was nothing serious and just some time wasting

I haven't forgotten his first season at Chelsea. Went 2 months as an afterthought culminating in him being replaced early in a USMNT game against Canada while we were down 2-0 and featured camera shots of him crying on the sideline.

Got a few good cameos in where he showed his connection with Batshuyi and they combined for a couple goals. His good form got him a start against Burnley where he had an incredible hat trick. Then went pretty silent for over a month without scoring until an injury forced him out. Didn't come back until after COVID restart. Then spent a month and a half being the best winger in the EPL, followed by an injury in an FA Cup title match that he was dominating.

Then.... he never matched that form for Chelsea again, outside of a few random games here and there(although some of those games were huge UCL ties).

Really quite sad as that first season.... Chelsea was really fun to watch. All heart and effort and CP right in the center of it.

I'm the nattering nabob... but given his health record the last couple years, I'm going forward assuming there is no Adams.

Single pivot leaves the cupboard a bit bare.

Looked like cramps at worst or more likely, ****housery.

I was thinking in the above post first part that Musah has been playing a kind of 6 role increasingly well for Milan and could grow into something useful for the US... But GGG needs to slightly adjust his approach to maximize the available players like Musah who might fit in there. Not sure that will happen.

I like the idea of trying BOTH Musah and Richards at DM for the US. I think they could provide different roles depending on who we're facing.

This is a cool idea... But would need a tactical shift from GGG. Neither Musah or Richards are the guys who best progress the ball with a pass (and hopefully this improves with their increased playing time), which would leave the forwards and Swag a bit starved. So maybe its a 3-2 (mus and Richards)-3/4- 2/1 to get an extra attacking player in the MF... But I don't know if GGG will roll that out ever.

Revelation - Richards / Richards
Rookie - Mahailovic / Paredes (Andy switched to Booth after a month lol)

Thoughts now that the year is over?

I think Player of the Year and Most Improved are probably both Jedi.

I'm not sure he's totally shown it in international games yet, but Malik Tillman had 4 caps at the beginning of the year and I think he's pretty nailed on as one of the very first subs/depth options if we play Gio as a 10. So he'd be my revelation.

Trusty got his first two caps this year and has looked good enough to be on the 23 I'd take to a major tournament, so he's my rookie.

POTY: I know it gets old giving to the same guy, but there's no one on the team that has earned it over Pulisic this year IMO.

Most Improved: Jesus Ferreira or Jedi

Revelation: Tough as I don't know if anyone REALLY was a revelation this year, but Richards seems like the best candidate.

ROTY: Balogun pretty obvious here IMO.

Totally whiffed on Balo. He's obviously ROTY. Pepi has a shout for most improved as well. I know he scored some important early goals in qualifying, but he's made a big step up since Groningen in overall play to the point that I'm not at all convinced that Balogun is better than him. It's a nice problem to have.

POTY... Ugh. Nobody grabbed it, so I'm not giving it. All options were pretty grim for too long this year to qualify. I guess Ream and Jedi both kept their game elevated and consistent, but no.

Improved... I was thinking Swag, for his turnaround from Leeds to Juve. Musah too, has steadily improved his game both in Spain and at Milan. Both guys had to play their way into their teams and are now deservedly key cogs for both. But I'm going to have to go with Dest who went from- is he another Konrad about to crash out of pro soccer entirely- to being a locked in starter at one of the best teams in europe who looks like he's just having a blast, mojo fully restored and flashing **** I don't think we've ever seen from a US player.

I don't remember if we've talked about it or if we've seen any semblance of it, but could we ever do a 4-4-2?

What would it look like?
