US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

So much excitement around this game

I usually have some players, combinations etc, that I'm looking for during these. Without a new coach, and without any really intriguing prospects...I guess maybe who and how the 6 plays, if Kochen or Fossey get minutes. Bleh.

I wonder if there's been communication with Poch about preferred tactical setup and player selection? Or with any other random person who's not the US coach.

yes this is depressing with out the new coach in place. Jesse has been doing his WWE heel best in interviews to try and add some juice to the game but with out Poch on the side line, it is hard to generate any real interest in the game. I will record and watch later tonight as I will be at a wedding today.

With out his name signed on a contract, I doubt Poch had any say in the roster or in how they line up today but I can't rule it out entirely.

I mostly agree with others about the lack of enthusiasm for these friendlies, but am somewhat interested to see if/how Wiley and Morris play. Would obviously be interested if Kochen gets to play, but <spoiler>he won't</spoiler>

Canada bigger, stronger, faster and first to every first and second ball. And that's before all the USs sloppy play and giveaways.

It's like boys against men. Shocking and embarrassing.

Poch, looking at contract while watching game or if the corner of his eye- uh... Im going to need some more time to review this with my lawyers.

Marsch has done a good job in a short time to get Canada to be more....concacaf-y.
Looks like the US is still adame t that they are smarter than everyone else and that will allow them to play a more calm, euro style.

0 shots on goal 1st half.

Just win.

Balo has been awful. No real 1st touch, getting to almost every ball second unless it's a perfectly weighted and placed diagonal ball into space, and then just getting ragdolled off any ball he wins, or dribbles it away into the 2nd man.

Musah... It's the same as above.

I didn't even realize Aaronson was playing, same as above.

Pretty true for all of them.

Full credit to the cannucks. They were the only team that came ready to play from the opening whistle, are tactically set up and willing to get a second man defending every US player.. who do oblige by playing the ball so slowly an/or sloppily.

And then on offense, they play the ball quickly with good understanding and spacing between players for triangles/one touch leading to just carving up the US on the next ball into wide open space.

Yeah.. this does look like Canadas full A team, so that's an advantage.

Guys, I think Lund might be a bit of a step down from Jedi.
I actually like his play 1st half more than just about anybody on the field for the US.

But, yeah.
I mean he’s willing I guess. But he’s anti-dynamic. Every time he runs onto the ball the pace slows down.
I dunno... He's making those runs and is just outpaced. But he's the only guy for the US that looks calm and composed in the ball and isn't losing it 100% of the time under pressure, while still trying and succeeding at beating the pressimg 1st defender and not losing it to the 2nd.

He's no Jedi, and not many are, but I like his game.

scally is no Dest either...but looks uncomposed vs Lund.

US getting called for some tricky tacky stuff... Which after the no-calls on Canadian players flying in at 110% in the first half is kinda disappointing by the ref.

Doesn't look much better, but a little better at least. Moving the ball quicker so able to not get doubled so easily to lose the ball. Still sloppy.

I forgot Tillman had some nice moments going forward, but also seems tactically adrift defensively. Passing needs to be better too.

And I still want somebody/any body to get stuck in.

The lack of heart/will is genuinely disturbing. You're getting outplayed, outclassed, outhustled... At least try to do something in your power- fly in and take a yellow

Yeah.

But imo Canada don't look too different with how they approach the game than they did before Jesse. With his RB background, he's always been about getting the ball forward immediately...and thats been how Canadas played the last couple cycles with this group of players. I do feel like he's given them a little more amperage and confidence.

I didn't watch their tactical setup, so not really sure how they were doing it-and maybe this is a Jesse thing- but I loved how they were able to consistently double up the US players...all across the field. Really impressive.

That was an extremely poor first half. Almost no effort given.

I am really not taking to Johnny's ultra slow style. The ball just dies when it gets to him. I thought the team looked significantly more energized when Morris came in and started moving the ball quicker.

Schulte had some really nice saves, else that first half scoreline would have been much worse. Canada deserved no less than a 2 goal lead, and probably 3-0 at half would have been better.

I thought Musah had a really off game. He gave away so many balls in the first half and lacked his burst dribbling.

I watch Balogun and wonder how he put 20 goals in during a season. I really thought we were getting our number 9, but I am starting to think Sargent may need to get some real playing time in place of Balogun as it is not happening for him at either club or country level.

Bright spots.

Schulte kept the game closer than it deserved to be. Some high quality saves and overall confident ownership of the box. Given Turners situation, this was good to see.

Not sure what you guys didn't like about Lund. Not a high ceiling, but calm, confident and capable on the ball with decent defense- man v man and shape. I continue to like what I see from him, even if I still can't wait for Dest to get back.

Morris provided a needed spark and looked like the only guy playing with heart. Plus showed some decent abilities on both sides of the ball, even if not close to MMA levels.

I was looking forward to seeing Tillman here. Been starting at the 10 consistently for PSV and been integral in their attack. And while he did have some of the only nice moments for the US moving the ball forward, his defensive shape allowed Canada full reign and his passing was lacking. He looks like a guy playing in Holland, in good and bad ways.

U17 team drew vs Slovakia 1-1 to finish the Vaclav Jezek Cup 1-1-1. This is our 2008s and all the other sides brought 2007s so a really good showing. This group will compete in the U17 World Cup next year and are likely to be among the favorites.

This tournament was without several of our best players in this class in Berchimas, Hall, and Jamir Johnson, who dominated last year for this group. I think Berchimas and Hall (who scored again yesterday in MLS) have graduated beyond this age group but not sure why Johnson wasn't there. It will be interesting if any of them drop in for the U17 CONCACAF qualifying or World Cup.

The 2009 class has more elite talent - Sullivan, Mathis, Spivey, Mehmeti, Romero, and Forfor - any of which may be called up for the U17 WC, but our 2008s are as deep and capable as any class we've ever produced to this point.

On a side related note it is easy to see how Columbus has built one of the best teams in MLS history with no big names and just solid players like Morris and Schultz scattered around. Nancy is definitely a name to keep an eye should Poch not work out or not want to stay post WC2026.

Morris has moved on. Hopefully if Schulte continues to raise his profile he too can get a shot some where in Europe.

This... Even in a friendly, was the most disturbing trend I've seen from this team.

Ok- you want to play it out of the back with guys who can't trap or pass the ball consistently at the pace of international game, I guess whatever. But at least attack it with grit and determination and heart... Especially on defense. Anybody can do that- should be a bare minimum starting point to be in this or any team.

Yeah I'm disappointed that Sargent didn't get any run yesterday. I'm not sure how many mediocre games in a row it is for Balogun, but it seems like it's been a looong time since he's looked convincing for the US, and Pepi hasn't exactly lit the world on fire as a sub. I know not everybody in the thread rates him, but he's earned a shot in my opinion.

Also, FWIW I watched the game on replay late last night without having read or seen anything beforehand (yay what a fun Saturday night!), and I thought Lund looked fine. He seemed the least of our worries. Which, speaking of our worries, CB is getting very concerning. Ream just doesn't look right anymore, and Richards while okay most of the time continued his penchant for making several horrific passes a game.

They really miss Adams in this regard.
