US Men's National Team (5 Viewers)

Celtic have signed 26-year-old United States centre-half Auston Trusty from Sheffield United on a five-year-deal, subject to international clearance.

Boss Brendan Rodgers said: "We are so pleased to sign Auston and he is a really welcome addition to our squad. He is a quick, strong, athletic defender with great ability and good experience and a player who has done really well to make his way to the USA national squad.

"We are really looking forward to working with Auston. I know he is really excited to be joining Celtic and looking forward to facing the challenges ahead and playing his part as we strive to bring our fans success once again."

Trusty, speaking to Celtic TV, said: "I feel ecstatic. It’s just such an historic and amazing club, and it’s a club I’ve known about since I was a little kid.

"Growing up in Philadelphia, football wasn’t such a popular sport but I knew Celtic, I knew who Celtic were. It’s a dream come true to join this club and such a massive organisation."

Jedi with another assist to level things before the half.
Not a pin point assist but more of a put it in a dangerous area and something good may happen (I think his intended target may have just whiffed on it to be fair so the accuracy was actually pretty good on a second rewatch). He continues his remarkable run. I fear he may be peaking two years earlier than we want but I have to hope he can keep close to this level in 2026.

Feels like Poch will have to figure out how to use Jedi and Dest effectively in attack without getting too exposed at the back. Jedi makes way more mistakes on D when playing for the US. Being out of position, bad clearances, and miscommunication with his teammates. He seems way more comfortable in the Fulham system and with Fulham players. Not surprising that many of those issues went away with Ream playing along side Jedi.

What happened compared to last year? Weren't they pretty good?
Tbh, they were rough to watch last year as well, despite their top 3 finish.
This. They really didn't beat anyone good last year. They slopped their way through average/below average teams because Leao/Giroud/Pulisic was just too talented of a front 3 to not score some goals, but the "style" of play was pretty awful.

It's worse this year. There were some REALLY good managers available this summer and yet somehow Milan chose a guy with middling success outside of Ukraine. Then, none of their moves this summer were really inspiring. If anything, the guys they let go were just as good as the guys they brought in to replace them.

I know Pioli's time was up, but he's a better coach than Fonseca. At this rate though, Milan will have a new manager by Halloween. His bright idea today was to not start Leao and Theo Hernandez, who are without a doubt MIlan's two best players. I guess he was "sending a message?"

Theo and Leao were beyond awful last week against a promoted team, half-assimg at best. I completely get the message. Leao subbed in today and ran enough to score a goal... and then proceeded to walk around the middle of the park taking up space and not contributing. I'm actually hoping he was hurt, because the degree of "**** this' shade he was throwing was embarrassing. And I thought I saw him almost look like he was hobbled... But at this point, almost hobbled looking is m.o. so who knows.

Leao is one of the most frustrating players on the planet because he has everything physically an attacking footballer needs to be a legit top 5 player in the world. But he is clearly missing a huge component of the mental/heart/obsessive stuff that the top players ooze.

Last year they weren't generating a lot of chances given the talent and the amount of possession. Yesterday, they just looked like they had no idea what they were doing. So many completely pointless passes where they have open guys far enough away to spread out and tire the defense (and potentially get the ball moving in the right direction), but instead they instantly passed backwards to a teammate just a few feet away from them. Or where the player with the ball had open space ahead of him, but instead of dribbling into it, he just held it until the defense had a chance to set up.

15 year old Mathis Albert, who signed with Dortmund from LA Galaxy, made his debut with the BVB U19 team. Considering how traditionally Dortmund are loaded with young talent, Mathis already playing with U19's is fairly impressive.

Note that both Pulisic and Reyna started with the U17's at Dortmund.

Thats been their look all3games so far this season. These are really good players, who look rudderless.

Fwiw, during the 2nd half drinks break, all players on both teams went to the sidelines to huddle with their coach...except Leao and Theo, who stayed to themselves on the opposite side of the field. Causing new drama.

PSV cruised again today. 3-0

Tillman went 86 with an assist
Richie went the full 90 again, at RB
Pepi subbed in early for DeLong (during first half) which I assume may have been an injury?

As a side related note for PSV, Chucky leads the league in scoring with 4 goals in 4 games. But I think he will be leaving this winter for San Diego so that is going to be a hole they have to fill.

Looks like Dortmund is keeping him very busy which is great. After his sub debut for the U19's yesterday, he started for the U17's today and picked up a goal and 2 assists.

I believe Mathis is one of the youngest players on the US U17 team, which he is now heading to play for in a camp in Czechia.

Here is the roster for the Sept friendlies. No Weston and No Jedi.

No Jedi is to let him get some rest and as for Weston, he has not played a minute since the Copa so they may not feel he is in game shape. Mikey Varas will be the coach as expected

Still not ready to move on from Ream it appears.

I am a touch surprised at no Gaga.

I love the way USSoccer chose to word this announcement.

With the search for a new head coach continuing, Mikey Varas will serve as interim head coach.

Are they negotiating through the media now?
I have to say that all too much experience watching US Soccer bottled things time and again over the years makes me fear they are not going to get the Poch deal signed. It should not be taking this long, especially if Chelsea are trying to help close the deal.
"After an extensive search and exhausting all other options, the USSF has determined that it's in our best interest to resign Gregg Berhalter as the head coach of the USMNT effective immediately on a 15 year contract."

Fwiw... U20 women are playing Morocco at 7pm est FS2 in 2nd game of the WC. They lost to Spain 0-1 in the first round.

It is going to be an odd looking team that takes the field in these friendlies.

No Gio, Dest, Adams, Jedi, or Weston - 5 field players that would typically be starting

=============

I also found the replacement of Cade for Gio interesting. Cade has been a forward for his entire career and Gio has been increasingly more in the midfield and I think was listed with the midfielders in the initial roster.

and now a brace

Fun to see his profile rise so quickly. I believe this is the kid scouts said was just as good as Cavan but was not as well known.
