USA Today Mock - Five Mock Grid (1 Viewer)

it was interesting to see the layout of five mocks spread out side by side (though i didn't necessarily agree with a lot of the picks)...

scroll down for the consensus with commentary...

after looking through the second round, i was reminded of how many teams are going to be getting some solid value... more than a few teams should be getting two starters almost immediately through the first two rounds, & that isn't always the case every year/draft...

Nice. Colston does yoeman's work on team analysis and really stays on top of back office chatter. I used to use USA Today to score my league (ah the good old days), but in recent years their online coverage has been a great source for inside scoops. He also seems to have extra info on the NFC North. His projections are very interesting because I know this guy knows people and knows what he's talking about.

Packers - Cutler (huh)

Lions - Bunkley (hmm)

Vikings - Chad Jackson (unexpected)

Bears - Santonio Holmes (dunno)

Man, I don't really like any of those, with the possible exception of Bunkley to Detroit.

I have a lot of respect for Rang too. He was an NFL scout on NFL payrolls for ten years. He really seems to know the Seahawks. Richard Marshall? Hmmm. Marshall is one of my favorite sleepers. I compare him to Antoine Winfield. He is amazing against the run. Against USC he played Jarrett straight up and got the best of it most of the night. I cannot say that about anyone else who tried to go man on Jarrett.

Only one out of five has Hali in the first round. He's really on a free fall. All five have Vernon Davis to the 49ers. I guess that won't happen now. Three out of five think the Jets open with Cutler. I just don't see it. Justice doesn't get as much respect in this as I expected. As low as 18 to Dallas? Fine by me, but we know that's not likely. Two of them have Jason Allen as high as 11, and two have Wimbley as high as 12. This confirms what I've been sensing for a couple weeks. Those two have made the biggest leaps in the post combine/pro day period. A couple of them have LenDale to the Broncos. I have a funny feeling that is correct. These guys get all over the place and then converge on Carpenter to the Pats and Greenway to the Giants. Interesting. Three out of five have Maroney to the Colts. What a great spot for him. Rang has Bing to the Steelers. My neice said Steeler reps were all over Bing at USC's Pro Day.

Anyway, thanks for the link.

Agree this is a deep draft - a savy GM can even get a solid player in the 3rd, 4th and maybe even 5th round. Savage is a solid drafter so I'll really be watching what he does in the mid rounds.

"Consensus draft"

Lions:

9. A.J. Hawk :pickle:

40. Max Jean-Gilles

Won't happen, but that would be awesome.

I know there has been thread after thread about Vince Young and how far he is dropping and all that but don't be surprised when he still goes in the top five. No way he is there past the raiders and no way in hell he falls all the way to the cardinals. Wont happen.

I don't know if it would display properly, but could someone put the info in a post for those unfortunates (like myself) whose workplace has sites like USA.today set as unavailable?(Blasted Websense!)

:wall:

I was all geeked up that Minnesota could land Ernie Sims about a month ago, but that is looking more and more like a pipe dream. I am on the verge of declaring Ernie Sims will not be on the board at pick 1.17.

Sorry Spike. I gave it a quick shot and it would be more work than I'm willing to put in right now. Hopefully someone else with a little more time and patience than I have can help you out.

I am feeling really good about my top 8 projects...

1 Houston Texans (Reggie Bush)

2 New Orlean Saints (D'Brickashaw Ferguson)

3 Tennessee Titans (Matt Lienart)

4 New York Jets (Mario Williams)

5 Green Bay Packers (AJ Hawk)

6 San Francisco 49ers (Vernon Davis)

7 Oakland Raiders (Vince Young)

8 Buffalo Bills (Winston Justice)

This is where I start to just plug in names for teams...

9 Detroit Lions (Michael Huff)

10 Arizona Cardinals (Broderick Bunkley)

11 St Louis Rams (Haloti Ngata)

12 Cleveland Browns (Kamerion Wimbley)

13 Baltimore Ravens...

14 Philadelphia Eagles...

No apologies are necessary. Thanks for the effort! I'll just wait until tonight.

I thought so too.I like some things they're doing over there as they cover FF more and more. I see they got Rang from NFLdraftcountdown for the mock and IIRC Coyle was commenting on some other draft info there. Getting Rotoworld to contribute alot was a big  IMO. I'm not a gambler on games but I also find Covers.com's #s interesting there too. Really might be an interesting compilation over there this summer.

I didn't realize Pitzer was working for USA Today! I remember when he was the soul-voice for TSN's fantasy football. I actually got an email response back from him a few times.... good egg.

I doubt SF goes with Davis. They have way to may other holes to fill. That and Eric Johnson is no slouch.

Not to get off topic, but I noticed they list Hawk at 248 lbs. I've also seen him listed at 238 and 240. Anybody know which of the weights is more accurate?

He wieghed in at 248 at the Combine. According to his trainer he was a little lighter than his playing weight which should be between 250 and 255.

I really don't see Cutler going at #4. If the Jets really want him, they could drop back to get him at the bottom of the Top 10 and they will find plenty of people going crazy to get Mario Williams at that point if he's still available (as USA Today projects).

Sucks to be a Ravens fan -- team is picking #13 in what seems to be a field of 10-11 outstanding players.

Cutler is getting a lot of love leading up to the draft. I've seen at least one site that has him at #1 now and dropped Leinart to #3 at the QB position. Leinart's passing workout must have been unimpressive.

I like Cutler as a prospect, but I just don't see how teams can use a top 10 pick on a guy like him, yet he is really rising on peoples charts.

Compared to Vernon Davis, Eric Johnson is a slouch.
Davis - Johnson < [most other options]
Way to bring math into this. :loco: Anyway, I agree, but use the 2 TE set, the WRs suck anyway, and Davis is a rare talent.

If you're referring to Draft Daddy, they were real high on Cutler before last season started and have had him QB1 since November. Oops, the site you reference has Leinart 3rd. Not Draft Daddy then. They love Matt and Cutler but hate Young. What site are you referring too? There was palpable exceitment after both Cutler and Young's pro days. Not so after Leinart's. I think everyone was quietly disappointed to see the naysayers so glaringly validated. Poor arm strength, extremely limited downfield accuracy, does not have all the throws. Most scouting reports still won't acknowledge the facts, even though they've been repeatedly warned and seen it with their own eyes on film and in person. It's a little pride swallowing to admit they were wrong after three years of worship through the cardinal and gold lenses. So, all was quiet instead.

I sense it's Cutler's obvious superiority to Leinart that is driving his value so high. If they'd just swallow that pride and admit neither has a franchise grade, then they both could fall to a reasonable level in this draft (where they both belong).

I posted an interesting Chow quote from Sportscenter immediately following Leinart's pro day, where he alluded to his love for Leinart and the "this is business now" possibility that they rate someone higher.

:hophead:
