A friend of mine does installations for very high end homes and sees a lot of luxury things. We were talking this weekend and one thing he mentioned was having an outdoor shower.

If you had an outdoor shower—say by your pool, or side of the house—and it was private, completely walled in—would you use it for your regular daily showers? Not just to rinse off after the pool or beach.

One of my favorite features of a beach house. Love an evening outside shower with a beer and a dip after a day on the beach. Couldnt imagine going outside for a shower at my house every morning though.

I'd use it every day.  Have thought about getting one installed.  And I always wanted a urinal in the finished basement.

For my daily shower?  Probably not.  Not sure if strange is the right word.  I would think these high-end homes also have kick ### indoor showers I would want to use regularly.

A friend of mine has one at his shore-house and I've used it for my daily shower. Not sure why that would be an issue.

If I had the means to have a luxury property that had an outdoor shower--I'd use it from time to time--but not as my normal daily shower. Even if it was completely walled off--total privacy cannot be guaranteed.  There are always drones and improvements in technology that make 100% privacy an impossibilty.

It would completely depend on how convenient it is.  Would I leave my bedroom to walk to outside and then have to return - no.  If I could walk to it attached and be able to conveniently dress after - sure, why not?

When I stayed at the shore for summers with a group of people, we would use the outdoor shower as our regular shower.

In laws have an outside shower near the beach

Far as I can tell, if the weather is > 70 no one uses the indoor shower

For some reason, ive been thinking about this lately.  Except, I'm thinking about it in the context of a secluded cabin in the mountains.  No neighbors = no privacy concerns.

The natural next question: how about an outdoors toilet?  One of the great things about being a man in the woods is you can urinate wherever you want, just like God intended.  Why not dump?  Outhouses suck, so why not a flushable toilet somewhere outdoors with a great view?

THIS.  I have a vacation lakehouse with an outdoor shower (sidenote: when I installed it ten years ago everyone on the street thought I was nuts because unlike a shore house there is no need to wash salt/sand off after being in the lake.  Fast forward ten years and 4 neighbors have since installed them).

There is NOTHING better than an outdoor shower on a hot day, a humid day, or a cool day:

  • more refreshing - especially on hot or humid days
  • more spacious - more fun to share with wife
  • easier on my septic system - especially important when the house is packed with guests
  • frees up the bathrooms for others - also important with guests
Now, have I thought about installing one at my first house: no, not for a second.  But this is largely because the bedrooms are on the second floor so it would be VERY inconvenient and for the rare weeks when the New England climate does lend itself to outdoor showering I am at my lakehouse.  But if I lived on the first floor, in a southern state, and didn't have a vacation home: would I have an outdoor shower that I used frequently?  Damn right I would - they're awesome.

Not a main shower as it's super convenient to roll out of bed naked and just hop in the shower in the master bath.  Plus all my clothes are there etc.  Would be strange part of a morning routine to go outside to shower.  Now for evening showers after workouts it would be fantastic and I'd love that option.

I'd use it fairly often if our layout allowed for it. I'll use the outdoor shower when I'm at the beach as my usual shower. But I'd still want an indoor shower available.

All these apply to me and I have nothing against the outdoor shower.

But, the layout of my house just doesn't allow for it unless either we add a outside door to our bedroom or I want to walk through the living room.

I've done some houses beach side where we've included these.

I honestly don't know that my clients ever use them. I would, but not as a daily cleansing source. I do like indoor/outdoor shower/baths though...like attached to a courtyard by large sliding glass doors.

I installed a toilet in the middle of my backyard.  Nothing more liberating than a cold beer while you unload in the wide-open fresh-air of the outdoors.

I got a buddy that did this for a couple of years. He runs a farm on his uncle's property. While he has getting house set-up, but he was staying in the camper right on the farm. He built a shower right there in the middle of the field. It was kind of awesome.

And showering with groups of people is a lot more fun that showering alone. In these times, it's best to be cautious and do the group showers outdoors.

those look so amazing. I've seen some photos and that HAS to be the best...super private outdoor shower but literary right off your regular bathroom.
