V-Jax's Bolts career 'almost certainly' over? (1 Viewer)

Floyd was targeted 12 times last night (about the same as Miles Austin and Ochocinco), and got 3 catches (and that's with the defense double-teaming Gates). Welcome to #1 WR status Mr. Floyd.
He was really targeted 9 times, which is still pretty good. Two of the "targets" were intentionally thrown out of bounds by Rivers, and Floyd happened to be the closest guy. Another target was intended for Craig Davis; but he slipped, leaving Floyd as the closest guy.Floyd will be a top ten fantasy WR if he gets 9 targets every game — which he won't, of course.

I wish the Chargers would have had V-Jax last season. He would have caught all the balls and they wouldn't have started 2-3! Last night I'm sure he would have made a special teams tackle. In the end that's why SD lost, they gave up big plays and deserved to lose in what is, to be fair, one of he best stadiums in the league. I can live with 300 yards passing every game if the Chargers pursue and tackle better.

9 or 12 targets are only "good" if you catch more than three of them.To be honest, as an East-Coaster with an early gig, I didn't see the whole game. And I actually agree that Floyd has a nice opportunity for a decent fantasy season. Anybody reasonably talented catching passes from Rivers in that system has a nice opportunity.I can't tell you authoritatively that Jackson would have caught more of those balls, or that he would have been open on more plays. All I know is that both Jackson and Floyd had ridiculously high success rates last year, and SO FAR in one game against an ostensibly weak secondary, that doesn't appear to be continuing without Jackson on the field making plays and drawing coverage.Time will tell, because Jackson's SD career is over. And FOR SURE, if at the end of this season the Chargers haven't made the playoffs or have an early exit, people (fans, management, owner, other team members etc) will most definitely be wondering if the $6M or $7M it would have likely taken to keep Jackson on the team for one year might have changed things.I've never said definitively that AJ should have coughed up the big bucks to sign Jackson long term. That's a tough question for any GM. But to play hard ball and offer him the same deal as Malcom Floyd might come back to bite him if he finds out Jackson might have been a little more valuable than Floyd to his team. There WERE options other than the mega-deal and the $3M slap in the face.

I'm not talking about last year; I'm talking about last night, when the Chargers had two drives where they could have tied the game, but lacked a WR able to make a play in the red zone in a critical situation.

A game that VJ could not have played in even if the Chargers signed him. Irrelevant to think VJ would have made any difference.Last night was all about special teams tackling... or the lack thereof.

Realistically, were it not for the wet field and huge screwup by the Chargers' equipment team, they would have scored twice on that last drive. SD players were slipping all over the field Monday night, much moreso than KC.

did their equipment team forget 3/4" cleats?
