Per the "Ticket" in Dallas.

Dallas is not known for just bring guys in for a visit. IMO...he is taking a physical prior to signing a contract. I predict he is signed in the next 12 hours.

This will be a great signing for the Cowboys!

I honestly hope they don't spend more than $2M/yr on the guy.

Truthfully, I wish they had made a stronger push for Josh Brown.

Any reasonable offer we make would be matched by Seattle. I agree that he is a good kicker, but the only way to get him out of Seattle is to vastly overpay him.

I have a hard time in Vandy at Dallas for two reasons:

First, he doesnt kick off. Dallas isnt about to sign a third kicker for that role. So signing him would cause lots potential problems on kickoffs and field position.

Second, Vanderjerk + Parcells = oil + water. Thats really an odd pair, moreso that TO and Tuna.

I'm dissappointed that Dallas didnt make a run at Vinatieri. Given the kickoff situation, I'm hopeful that Dallas will tender Seattle's Josh Brown and give up a 7th rounder. But perhaps Dallas is afraid that Seattle would match and they'd lose Vandy to another team while the tender was in play. Dunno. But Dallas has botched their kicker upgrade this offseason if they have to settle for Vandy.

I would still rather have Josh Brown any day. Even if we have to over pay a little. I think it would be worth it.

I don't have a problem with Vandy coming to town. That will be some personality on this team..... T.O. and Vandy.....

Didn't they say that about T.O. too?

Can McBriar kick off at all? Maybe the goal is to sign Vanderjagt, boot the balls high and a bit short, and let the coverage team smother the return team with speed. :nerd:

I think McBriar kicked off some last year, I am not positive of that though.

Ridge,I think it was Indy that didn't want him to Kickoff after his injury as a safe guard. Vandy actually was lobying to get this back. I agree that he is not the greatest kick off guy. It might be a net loss of about 4-5 yards, not a big deal ....imo.

Think of it this way......if he is "Kicking Off" we just scored 7 or 3 :D .

Those "3's" were hard to come by last year.

Amen to that.

Get Vandy! We lost quite a few games last year due to our lack of a kicking game. This will strengthen our team a lot, especially on the offensive side. Of course the loss of Larry Allen weakens our O line, but we have added some depth in the off-season. We now need to look at the defensive side. Get a safety, a linebacker, and a defensive tackle to rotate and the Cowboys will be looking real good.

You guys cannot be serious about Vandy can you? The guy has 1 clutch field goal attempt in his life and he shanked it. And I don't mean he just shanked it. He folded so bad the kick resembled a Ray Guy coffin-corner punt than an actual field goal attempt. This kicker clearly has some mental issues in big situations for him to short circuit so bad.

He is the most accurate kicker in NFL history. He missed one long field goal.

Personally, I think he gets a bad rap. No questioned he choked on his last kick last year. Keep in mind that it was a 47 yarder. He is a HUGE upgrade from anything this team had had in years. Is he a bit mouthy...yup. Who cares though??? It's football not debate class.

Think about this.......Our best Special teams play last year was the Missed FG in the Carolina game. Now that is sad!!!!!!!

Scott Norwood missed in 1992. Gary Anderson missed in 1998. Vanderjagt had a mental implossion of biblical proportions. The ball nearly knocked over an endzone pylon.

If they get Vanderjerk, Tuna won't be able to cut and p/u another PK during the season. This was one of his favorite things to do and keep his interest. Then again, he could still do that! Here's hoping they sign him to the biggest contract a PK ever got!

Wow, he'd fit in w/ what they already have for jerks:

Tuna

TO

Vanderjerk

;)

I hope Dallas does sign him...I hate that the Patriots lost Adam V, but I would hate it more if Vanderjerk becomes the kicker. Rather get him off the market before the Patriots consider him.

I am hoping the Pats make the push for Josh Brown...He has youth going for him, so you never know what the Pats might do, plus they do have a few extra draft picks this year.

I don't think there is any way in hell that Vandy gets signed by the Pats. Unlike my beloved Cowboys, the Pats actually avoid guys who have personality disorder of may be bad team mates.

He missed a game-winner against the Dolphins in the playoffs also.. the colts lost in OT. Don't forget missing a game-winner in the regular season against the Pats a year or 2 ago that would've given Indy homefield advantage

Well...that's Cowboy fans.

Complain when we don't do anything.

Complain when we do sign someone.

It's pretty simple for me.

Vanderjagt > Cortez/Suisham/Cundiff (Combined)

= Good signing

I can't wait until he misses a FG and Owens goes nuts. :boxing: :excited:
like Larry Allen when he almost tore off Jse Cortez's head?
Not quite. Owens is too much of a wuss to ever actually go after someone physically IMO. He'd just trash talk him and then make a rap about it, maybe call a press conference and do some situps i nthe parking lot.

Didn't he whoop someone's ### in the locker room about a year ago? A guy a little bigger than a kicker IIRC.

I totally agree. I don't think it is Cowboys fans on here not happy, just the usual Cowboys haters running their mouths.

He kicked the snot out of the AmbASSador (Hugh Douglas). He also chalenged the rest of the team, no takers btw.The hate never stops.

I posted this in the other Vanderjagt/Vinatieri threads as well:

Some things to consider.

Granted, Vinatieri is certainly more prone to bad weather in NE, Buf, NY, but...

Vanderjagt

Indoors 87.6 (127/145)

Outdoors 87.4 (90/103)

Vinatieri

Indoors 94.4 (34/36)

Outdoors 80.4 (229/285)

The big kicks stick in our mind (as they should) and that kick against Pittsburgh was god-awful. I don't know what they consider "close" and "close/late", but...

Vanderjagt

Close 89.1 (90/101)

Close/Late 89.5 (34/38)

Vinatieri

Close 80.0 (136/170)

Close/Late 78.4 (29/37)

Ah yes, I had forgotten about the Hugh Douglas incident. I guess T.O. is nuts enough to go after somebody. I don't quite remember hearing that T.O. kicked the snot out of Douglas though. Most of the sources were saying that the two both took swings at each other but nobody actually connected.

Not the way I heard it...... I heard he swung at T.O. and missed and T.O. clocked him.

For argument sake even if TO held his own.....pretty impressive against a bigger HD.Owens is a lot of negative things, WUSS is not one of them ...imo.

TO & Hugh Throw Down

From Yahoo:

Nov 6 Mark Eckel, of the Trenton Times, reports Philadelphia Eagles WR Terrell Owens had a fistfight with former defensive end and current team ambassador Hugh Douglas. The fight occurred in front of several of his teammates. According to one of the sources the Owens-Douglas fight "was like WWE Smackdown." Another source said both men threw at least two punches during the altercation and when it was over Owens challenged QB Donovan McNabb first and then everyone else in the room saying, "You want some. Anyone else want some." The Eagles refused to comment about the situation, other than the statement that revealed Owens' suspension. Owens and Douglas have been at odds since training camp and almost got into an altercation in an elevator at Lehigh University.

Wow. That has to be a whole lot better than WWE Smackdown. I'd put my money on Owens. Supposedly this little scrap took place on Wednesday. You can read Eckel's article in the Trenton Times here.

Foxsports has a great recap of the fight:

Those present told FOXSports.com, while Owens was in the pool rehabilitating his injured ankle, Douglas came into the area and began to get on the outspoken wide receiver. The two jawed back and forth before, believe it or not, Owens got out of the pool and went to get his sneakers on in order to get traction to throw some blows.

When he came back, with shoes on, Owens and Douglas started swinging. Douglas threw a shot, which missed, then Owens threw five or six punches and landed a couple.

Even if T.O. can beat up the whole team, I'll still take Vanderboy over any kicker we have had here in a decade....

he won't complain about the missed kick.he will complain that they attempted a kick instead of "throwing him the damn ball".

:hophead:

Dallascowboys.com is saying thats its probable that it will happen tonight or tomorrow.
"While no deal had been officially struck by early Wednesday evening, the two sides appeared to be closing in on an agreement that could be signed as early as Thursday."link

According to this "scetchy" site. He has signed.

http://www.eastcoastsportsnews.com/2006Draft.html

As I said earlier, I think will happen. Although this is a less than credible source. Waiting for one of the big boys to report it.
Actually i routinely follow this site pre draft time for the past two years and i havent ever seen any evidence of bad reporting or misleading stories. Seem more credible then some sites i have seen (rotoworld).

Another version of similar info:

The sides negotiated into the night and were set to meet again this morning, agent Gil Scott said, but it's unclear whether Vanderjagt will visit other teams. The Cowboys had interest in Matt Bryant, but he re-signed with Tampa Bay. They had only cursory talks with Vinatieri, who spent 10 seasons with New England. Dallas has spoken with the agents for Josh Brown and Paul Edinger.
