Vanderjagt cut (1 Viewer)

Boy, has this guy ever dropped off.

I remember after his perfect regular season when teams were keeping him and cutting decent players in keeper leagues. (Not that it was ever a good move to keep a kicker).

:bye:

not a second too soon.

as others have suggested he would have cost us a game in the playoffs for sure with his kicking

So the question for us Vandy owners, which kicker that is on the WW has a favorable schedule down the stretch, plays for a team that moves between the 20's but stalls, etc.?

Good riddance. Can't say I'm too excited about one of the Flying Grammaticas joining the team. :bag:

Wish the Cowboys would've signed Vinatieri in the first place. :(

As a Cowboy fan, all I can say is thank God. I understand Vandy's a great kicker (or was), and he very well may right the ship with whatever team he latches onto. But, it's pretty obvious, he was going to be a mess for a while. I don't know how Gramatica will do, but what I do know is in a crucial situation, Vanderjagt was absolutely certain to miss wide right. Cowboys are a legit contender for the NFC crown, and this was the guy I was most worried about going into the playoff stretch.

woah, didn't think they'd do that. i hope they field tested gramatica a little before getting him. i guess it's better to win a game, then lose being cheap.

cowboys wasted a lot of money this offseason, rocky boiman $1 mil, vanderjagt $2.5, henson, $3m??, allen 5m??, glover 4m?

I think the Henson hit won't be that bad when it's all said and done. It could be worse (edge).

Grammatica may not be a stud, but just how many solid FA kickers were available. He's a risk, but Vandy was going to be a turd when it counts most this season.

"Grammatica back for a 34 yard field goal attempt...snap is good...kick is up...and...it hits the crossbar!"

so you're saying he's got a chance? :bag:  so bears have no qb, cowboys have no kicker.in chicago, i think i'd rather have no qb.

Sunk costs aside, I guess I would have rather had Vanderjagt kicking for me than just about any of the free agent "turds" on the market, including Gramatica (ESPECIALLY Gramatica). Unless something v-e-r-y ugly happened in the locker room and/or between Vandy and Jones/Parcells away from the media, I think this is a bonehead move by the Cowboys.Note to Dallas fans: the whole "He sucked anyway, we don't need him....don't let the door hit you in the ####" schtick has already been patent-protected by fans of the Green Bay Packers. Don't even TRY to go there....or you'll have about 20 lawyers descend upon your home with cease and desist letters and litigation. ;)

I forget - is this the Grammatica that injured himself after celebrating a made field goal and was out the rest of the season?

I believe it is. [sarcasm]I always preferred Alec's "schweaty Peter" schtick and "God complex" quotes to little brother Billy's antics......but Martin G. had some good schtick back in the day too.......[/sarcasm] :P

What a headcase. Vanderjagt is the real life version of Ray Finkle (Ace Ventura)

In a year a two he'll be an after thought, until he surfaces ten years down the road looking for revenge on Manning (played by Marino)

You heard it here first...

So you're predicting a sex change?

"Sunk costs aside" is an oxymoron. I'm guessing you mean "his salary aside". As soon as you say sunk, it becomes irrelevant ...

No, that was Bill.Martin got cut by the bucs because of a lingering Hammy injury that wouldn't heal. He's healed up now and was on fire in Patriots camp. They just opted for the young guy.

This is why we play team kicker, which fanball now supports.

is this for real? I have him as my kicker in a league that doesnt allow free agent moves after Week 10
Sorry for this Loopdog. But in this kind of league - which I have been in - you MUST have two Ks and TEs (assuming required) befor the FA moves period ends. You have to anticipate injuries, if not cuts.
What he said. :goodposting: If you're a Vanderjagt owner, the writing was on the wall weeks ago.

She. What she said :D

Kyle Nance, Washington, D.C.: For the first time this season I think the Cowboys just made a big mistake by releasing Mike Vanderjagt. I can't believe they let him go to bring in Martin Gramatica. This is truly unbelievable.

Mickey: Well, I don't know that it's "truly unbelievable" since Vanderjagt has made just 13 of 18 kicks, and knowing one of the makes bounced in off the upright (that right upright again) and that last one, from 22 yards Thanksgiving Day, was slicing so far right that he would have missed that one, too, had it been 10 yards longer. But, you have a point since Gramatica has basically attempted one field goal since the 2004 season, when he was only 11 of 19. That they made the move, though, speaks to how little confidence Bill Parcells had in Vanderjagt, and knowing Parcells, he thinks at times it's better to gamble with change than to stay with the same ol' mediocre status quo. (See quarterback.) Plus, don't sell Dallas Desperados kicker Carlos Martinez short, once his AFL paperwork is cleared and he's likely added to the practice squad later in the week.

Isn't this a yearly tradition in Dallas?

JJ: "It's late in the season - let's fire the kicker"

BP: "Yeah, Good idea! I love doing that!"

Well since they both did it on the same day...yes

Funny - someone had just mentioned how he had never seen Parcells have so much patience with a kicker - now we know - he hasn't changed. :bye:

I sure hope so as I didn't have a backup for him and my playoffs start this week.

Luckily I have a bye.

The only thing I don't quite understand is why Washington wouldn't have signed Gramatica if they needed a kicker so bad.

If Gramatica replaced Vandy, why would Washington or anyone else for that matter sign him when they had the chance to get Gramatica?
