Vegas (7 Viewers)

I don't think that's true. I'm pretty sure I remember TV's at the bar.
Ah you may be right on that.  I've only ever eaten in the dining room and pretty buzzed getting through the bar. :)

Google image search makes it appear there is one tv over the bar.

Well, I seem to remember them, but I went and searched images and don't see any in the pics online. So, now I'm not so sure...

Alright, back to Vegas people!

Updated Plan:

Saturday - SW Steakhouse at the Wynn - One of my co-workers is jonesing for the domestic Wagyu from Snake River Farms ($98 for 10 oz.  ) so that's where we are heading. About as high end as you can get in Vegas but we can expense up to $60/pp for individual dinners so  everything above and beyond that is on our personal expense. I'm leaning towards the Bone-in Ribeye ($82 for 24 oz., probably half meat, half bone) because that's the cut that I like to get if available. I may try the Chili-Rubbed Ribeye instead if someone is willing to split it with me because it's a double cut (42 oz).

Sunday - Julian Serrano Tapas @ Vdara - Spanish  - This is an annual work trip to Las Vegas for a conference at the Bellagio/Aria so we have been going here on Sunday nights for the past several years. Large tables to accommodate big parties and pitchers of red sangria are a great way to start out the trip. Everyone orders what they want and the tapas are shared family-style to the table. If you find something you like, order another one! A few of my favorites are the Spanish Tortilla, Tuna Carpaccio, Pepito de Ternera, Pintxo de Chorizos, and the Spanish Cheese Platter with some Iberico Ham.

Monday - Lotus of Siam - Thai - I can't remember when I went here for the first time but it must have been at least 15 years ago. While the crappy strip-mail location hasn't changed, a few (5?) years ago they purchased the wig shop next door, Serge’s Showgirl Wigs (they had a great selection if you were looking for something along these lines, lol) for an expansion and renovation. It's not the same hole in the wall location it was many years ago but the food is still fantastic as always. The selection is huge but the problem is every time I go I order something new so over time I have about 15 favorite dishes that I just HAVE to get. Luckily we go with quite a few people so there is plenty of food to share as everyone gets to try some of this and some of that. Here are a few of my favorite dishes here: Nam Kao Tod (Crispy Rice with Sausage), Tom Kha Kai (Bangkok Style Soup), Rad Na (Yellow Curry Noodle), Roasted Duck Curry, Crispy Duck with Chili Mint Leaves, Thum-Ka-Noon (Pounded Young Jack Fruit Shredded), Sia Oua (Northern Style Sausage), Nam Prik Noom (Green Chili Dip) served with fried pork skins  . I know there are others that I will order once I get there but luckily they always look to me to order for everyone so I happily oblige with all of my favorites. I always look forward to coming here while in Vegas and have turned quite a few people onto it over the years.

Tuesday - Work event @ the Cosmopolitan - Semi-decent buffet hotel food and plenty of potent, high-end cocktails. But free!

Wednesday - Lago at Bellagio (also Julian Serrano) - Italian - We decided to go here instead of Picasso, Serrano's French restaurant, both at Bellagio, since we have been there a few times before. We have a two-hour cocktail reception prior so I'm sure we will be pleasantly liquefied by the time dinner comes around. A few menu options that look good: Crudo di Pesce (tuna, hamachi), Agnolotti di Vitello (veal stuffed ravioli with garlic roasted porcini), Brasato D'Anatra (braised duck with truffle-butter   sauce).

I also love going to Hyde at the Bellagio for pre-cocktail reception cocktails. I have never been there late night for the nightclub (too old, lol) but I enjoy the Burning Mango cocktail while overlooking the fountains as a starter to the evening.

Thursday - Chica @ Venetian - Latin American - A recently opened restaurant by the same people that own Yardbird focusing on Latin American cuisine. I'm really looking forward to giving this one a try. I have been living in Miami for the past 7 years so I have grown to love Yardbird and their pork-inspired restaurant called Swine that were started here. I have taken a look at the menu and am gravitating toward the following although tastes may change by the time Thursday rolls around: Grilled Peruvian Octupus, Tuna Ceviche, Porchetta with Crispy Yuca Hash (Slow roasted suckling pig).

Friday - Breakfast in First Class on American Airlines on my way home -  :X

Damn, just re-reading all of that is making me hungry...or full depending on how you look at it....lol.

Yeah - I was sorta worried about giving our fearless leader a recommendation that had anything to do with Southern (or BBQ).  It's sort of like you recommending great Mexican food to me.  Out here in CA, face it, we don't eat a ton of fried chicken.  Bad for you and all that stuff. So for us, who have fried chicken maybe twice a year, Yardbird is really good. I know for the price expectations are high, but in Vegas it's all funny money.  Where do you find value on the Strip? My wife and I split the 4 piece (they let us change up the pieces) and shrimp and grits.  And some whiskey of course.  I think in Vegas it's hot right now because it's different.  All the other restaurant concepts and Puck/Battali/Ramsay creations are everywhere.  Don't want another high end steak joint? Fried chicken and shrimp and grits? Good option in Vegas.
All good Buddy.

Sorry for the hijack, but are you in Phoenix too? Where do you like to go?
Sorry for the sub-hijack, but Z'Tejas is a nice spot (recommend the Diablo Chicken Pasta).  Got one right in the Scottsdale mall (next to the Yardhouse) and another in Tempe.  It's more of a Tex-Mex place than traditional Mexican though.

If I ever make it back to NO, can you add fried chicken and ribs to the all meats/all sides platter and call it the EG?  It can just be a one day special, I don't want to muck up your menu or anything, but I have to have it all.  Also, make it mandatory to order at least 2 beers in order to get the special.  Then, I could die in peace.
Done.

We do Vegas much differently...
Haha. Yep! My trips always start with a trip to the grocery store, followed by liquor store, followed by del taco. I get my saturday game bets in friday night and I am on the mountain at about 6am saturday.

We are staying at the luxor (comped two nights 39 bucks the other two, tower luxury suite) and always rent a car.

I barely play table games anymore, never touch slots, but will probably make at least 100 bets in the book. I almost never buy a single drink at a bar as we stock up on local beers and just keep them in the fridge in our room. We do always get at least one growler from Sin City though.

Yardbird ripped off Thomas Keller.  Or so I've been told to believe.

The formula isn't all that complex.  Buy small chickens, brine them, dry them out, fry them.  There are some small tweaks that he did but the recipe is out there I'll see if I can find it.

Dude. No.
Have your food and booze meet you at the hotel

$20 off + free delivery for every email address you can make up.
I like the $20 off. This is an inner struggle. I am incredibly cheap, but I despise online ordering and standing around waiting for a delivery guy. Would still for sure go to the liquor store though. Vons has an ok beer selection, but nothing compared to total wine. We brought back 13 leftover cans of beer from our most recent trip, only two cans are the same. We cant buy any of them in wisconsin. Joseph james, big dogs, tenaya creek, indian wells, great basin, etc. Vons has a couple of the varieties, but usually not the real good ones.

Yeah if you're looking for boutique beers, this isn't for you. However the grocery / liquor options are fantastic.

You don't have to "wait around" for anything. If I'm landing at Noon, I assume I'm in my room by 1:30, so I schedule the delivery for then. I'll be unpacking, hanging stuff, brushing my teeth, getting changed up post flight and will either get a knock at my door (some guys will bring it up to the room) or a call to come to the lobby (where I'll grab a luggage cart and load up).

Either way it's very easy to schedule and quite affordable.

There's actually a car service that picks you up with the booze

God Bless America. This is so awesome.

If I'm getting in at noon,  i schedule delivery for noon. The hotel will snag it for you and bring it up when you arrive.
OH really?! That's fantastic. I've heard some hotels dont like deliveries like that. You've never gotten complaints/refusals? If so you' just put the cherry on top of this system for me. Nice $10 tip to the guy who brings it up and boom. Even MO convenient. :banned:

I've only done it at Vdara. Never a complaint. Probably wouldnt hurt to call and ask first.

  I love vegas.

Yeah when I use presidential we have them include a bottle of champagne for the ride over. I'm guessing you're talking about something even better, too.
yeah, we gave them our shopping list and they picked it up for us and had the beer iced down for the ride to the hotel.

I think it was bell transportation

One quick word of caution... make sure your hotel has a refrigerator if you're planning on stocking up on beer. I stayed at Aria last summer and apparently they don't have refrigerators in any of their rooms. I discussed with a few people and was told that's the norm for a lot of the casinos, but I doubt it. Kinda sucked having cases of beer and no easy way to cool them. I just ended up drinking more whiskey, but still.

Bath tub / sink if a suite, or cheap foam coolers delivered from grocery store.

When we stay at resorts we know don't have fridges, we just buy a $4 foam cooler from the grocery store. Most normal rooms dont have fridges. I think even the Rio doesnt have them anymore in the standard suites.

I love this board.  Thanks for the heads up on this @[icon]

As others have posted--you can generally get a very inexpensive styrofoam cooler from the numerous Walgreens/cvs stores on the strip.  However--many hotels will bring up a mini fridge if you request one.  I know this because a while back my mother was on a medication that required refrigeration.  I informed the gal at the front desk of this--and she mentioned that she could have a mini fridge brought up to the room.  They didn't charge me anything--but I did tip the gal $20.  My guess is that most hotels won't charge for a mini fridge if it's requested for medical reasons.  I'm guessing that if you tell them that you want it to chill beer--they might charge you a daily fee for one.

My wife and I stayed at the Mirage for a week at end of June/beginning of July. Room had a mini-fridge that was stocked...but we were afraid to use it to keep beer cold because someone had told us if you move anything around in fridge you'd get charged for it. No idea if that's true, was my first time in Vegas, wife's second time.

We used a stainless steel trash can from room and kept it filled with hotel ice in bathtub.

That is technically a mini-bar and not really a mini fridge that is intended for hotel stayers to store their own items in.  Many mini bars have sensors--so even if you move an item--you can actually get charged for it whether or not you actually consume it or put it back.   You did a wise thing by creating a cooler out of the steel trash can.

Ok didn't know that. Thought it was just a stocked fridge. Glad we didn't touch anything then.

Is Yardbird's chicken a buttermilk batter? Cuz that's a non-starter for me.

Going out with a semi-large group (around 5 couples) in mid-November. I was pushing for Venetian, Cosmo, or Caesar's but so far it seems like the leader in the clubhouse in terms of where to stay is MGM Grand since it's less expensive. Wife and I don't really do Vegas on a budget so I'd like to get a nicer room. Any room suggestions if that's the way they end up deciding? Or anybody with input on why MGM might not be a great option?

I've never stayed there but Craftsteak is excellent
