Ill be out this weekendFlamingo/Hard Rock (we usually hit the pools hard and are asleep by midnight every night).Only other place Ill be checking out is Cosmo.
Chandelier Bar at Cosmo is a must. Sexy spot with three levels, and a cool drink list.
What the going rate for a beer in Chandelier bar? How about bottle service? Going for 4th of July weekend, as long as I call a day ahead to get put on list should I be good to go?
It was very reasonable (less than $10), I don't remember exactly sorry.

Yep. Cocktails were 10 or so, so I am guessing 6-7 for a beer. I know that's not 'reasonable' for a lot of people, but if you're looking for a bucket of beers for 12 bucks, you shouldn't be in the Cosmo anyway. RE: reservations. Chandelier Bar is not a club. It's just a bar, accessible from two different floors. The design is literally like you are inside of a chandelier (PHOTOS). I wouldn't do bottle service, even if they offered it. Three levels, 360 degrees. Bottom floor, casino level, had a trio and a female singer, lounge style. Upper two levels had bars and cocktail tables all around. I'd hit it before dinner, or if I was taking a break from the craziness, I'd post up there for a few. Last time I was back in town, brought two friends that had never been to Vegas, and we were really trying to show them a lot of spots, so it was a drink here, a drink there, etc. Chandelier is the place where we were all kind of like, "Oh, let's just chill here for a bit...."

Try out the cocktail list. Prices are not bad, and they are doing some interesting stuff, for Vegas.

Search this thread for "Patty". Guru talks about her the last page back in his big post. She is some sort of insider for Cirque and she can get great tickets for any of the shows for under face. Heading to Vegas this weekend - staying at The Hotel at Mandalay for 2 nights and then the Venetian for 2 nights. Going with wife.

Plans include dinner at Firefly (tapas), Absinthe at Caesar's (I've heard it's pretty awesome) and horse wagering on Saturday.

Question - will the book at Mandalay give/sell the DRF? If not, where in Vegas can I pick up the racing form?

Racing fans-where is the best racebook to spend the afternoon Saturday in Vegas for the Belmont? Don't need anything fancy, just a good sized place where the drinks flow freely.

So, for hotel, what would be the best combination of female talent, location, pools, lounges/clubs and price? Will be there Sept. 8-10 (Thurs thru Saturday). Age demographic: high-20's to low-30's.Would Palms be the best bang for the buck?
For what you are looking for I would go to the Cosmo. I stayed at Planet Hollywood Memorial Day weekend, but some friends had rooms at Cosmo so I spent a good deal of time there. I am not into the club scene, but the eye candy was ridiculous, the pools were great. Not sure about the rooms but I remember getting a couple very reasonable offers for rooms there a couple months back.
:goodposting: Agree with everything he said. Stay at Cosmo.
So, what's the best way to go about finding a reasonably priced deal at the Cosmpolitan?Arriving Wed., Sept. 7 and Departing Saturday, Sept. 10th (3 night stay)

Touched base with Patty. She put me down for two tickets to the Lion King (told you all I wanted to give Mandalay bay a good look) and David Copperfield.

The trick will be Friday night. Start with expedia and the hotel site to give you an idea as to what your baseline is. Then try and book something with your airfare as a package. Try searching for a coupon or discount code.If push comes to shove and Firday is too much for your taste you can always do wed-thur night at the cosmo and spend friday at one of the mid level places.

Is Peppermill worth the cab ride from the strip? Just for drinks, or dinner too? If dinner, any recommendations?
Come hungry. It's diner food, but :lmao: portion size. The ice cream sundae is big enough for 3-4 to split too.
The Fireside Lounge in the back is kind of cool in a kitschy Old Vegas way. The neon and firepit decor is straight out of 1985. The gigantic girly drinks are an acquired taste. The Peppermill is on the strip. It's walking distance from Encore, the Riv and Circus Circus. The North strip is pretty run down though with more vacant lots and unfinished properties that functioning casinos.
Oh. I thought someone said it was next to the Hilton. North Strip..... I try my best to avoid it. It's been a while though, and I do plan on checking out Fremont agian (GF never seen it), so it is on the way.
I think you are a bit confused...The Peppermill is on the strip (North Strip - by The Riveria...the Las Vegas Hilton is off the strip (behind Riveria). Fremont street is Downtown, aka Old Vegas.
The Peppermill and Lotus of Siam are the two off strip places that consistently get mentions on trip advisor and other sites. Been to vegas 19 times and never even considered going to either. Not sure why. Usually yelpy type stuff doesn't steer you too wrong.

I think I mention Lotus of Siam in the first couple of pages - always a stop for me when I'm in Vegas

Lotus & Firefly. Autostops for me. Best Thai food in the country and INCREDIBLE tapas.

"Rehab", which has been a great Sunday pool party at the Hard Rock for years, is officially done. Seriously, what a joke. Hit it up last week and I might as well have been an extra in that MTV Jersey Shore reality show. Velveeta oozing from the pool. Endless, cranking rave music with average chicks and a million guys for your relaxing day at the pool. Just awful. It used have a nice, mellow vibe with a much better crowd.

Some porn mogul had an area blocked off for all his girls and a few of his friends or employees. That was entertaining for a bit. He ended up throwing out stacks of $1 bills to the crowd in front of him, watching them scramble. I will say the girls were insanely hot, and he was one old, ugly human. God bless him. He would cruise around, sweat stains all over his tight, yellow polo shirt -- belly popping out the bottom -- sticking his tongue down selective throats. Pretty funny.

I guess like any club, average life span is short...too bad, that used to be the best spot in Vegas on Sunday.
Wow - went back to read a few of the first pages from back in 2007. Some of the advice is the same as today, some very much different.

THis post was interesting because the current Jersey Shore was out yet and this was based upon one or two half hour specials. Little did Brong know that this was the new normal.

I know everyone is getting tired of me pimping Mix so much, but you will be right there. It's at the top floor of The Hotel. You have to take the wife there and order the braised beef. It just might be the best thing I've ever eaten. It is my wife's favorite meal of all time.

Lotus of Siam is ridiculously good. Definitely worth a sidetrip no matter where you are staying.
Do you need reservations ahead of time or is it a place you can just walk up to with a reasonable wait?
I'm not really sure. I went last time by myself in the middle of the day and got a seat right away. It's not that big, so there might be a little wait depending on when you go. But it's also off strip so I don't know how packed it really gets. Probably wouldn't hurt to get a reservation, especially if you're in a group or not willing to wait very long. It's a pretty nondescript place in a strip mall, but man the food is phenomenal. Can't wait to get back there.

As a former local, let me tell you that in the evenings on the weekends, it's packed. Go early, if you can. But it's the best Thai restaurant in the USA, bar none. Go!

Peppermill is by far my favorite establishment in Las Vegas.

So of course it would be great to just stay at Cosmo, but after a preliminary search its looking like one of the most expensive places to book a room at these days.I'll be with a couple guys and we'll be in our room pretty minimally. Is there any huge downside to just staying somewhwere "near" this location for much cheaper and basically just treating that as my bed, but hanging out 90% at different hotels? For instance, save $200 by staying somewhere like Planet Hollywood (which would basically cover the flight costs) and then spending most of my time at Cosmopolitan's, Aria's and Bellagio's pools, restaurants, casinos, ultralounges and clubs?Other than the minor inconvenience of a little more time to get there, is there anything Im unaware of that would offset this $200 savings? I'm not a cheap-### by any means, but I guess I'd rather spend that extra $200 on a great dinner or more drinks than just some convenience and a nicer room that I'll hardly ever be in.

Think I may have answered my own question.....are you only allowed to go to pools of the hotel you're staying at?

Think I may have answered my own question.....are you only allowed to go to pools of the hotel you're staying at?
Yes. The other savings you need to factor is cab fare. If you are sure you are going to spend most of the time at cosmo you will probably need at least 100 for cab fare depending on where you stay.If your going with other dudes I'd suggest just paying the money.

In my example above with Planet Hollywood, it's across the street on the strip so probably a 5-10 minute walk to get from PH to Cosmo, Aria, Bellagio area each day. Once we're there than we're there....those 3 hotels all are in simple walking distance and in the case of Aria to Bellagio has the free tram to use. Within that proximity, dont see needing cabs. The big factor at this point is the pool scene. You can only go to the one you're staying at and the PH pool stinks....may be better to pony up some extra money to stay at Aria or Cosmo for the pool factor.

Think I may have answered my own question.....are you only allowed to go to pools of the hotel you're staying at?
Yes, some places allow you to pay to use their pool. Honestly if you want to use the pool at Cosmo you're better off just staying there.
How big is the cosmo pool? I feel like I could do a long jump across the width of their property.
Looks like they have 3 different pool areas all with a different vibe and decor. Guess te biggest upside of the pools here are the female eye candy since its the newest place to be seen by the younger crowd.http://www.nbc.com/friday-night-lights/video/fracture/1331674/

We stayed at Caesar's Palace a couple of weeks ago and walked over to Cosmo every day (although the pool at Caesar's was pretty nice). I don't see an issue with staying at PH and walking over to Cosmo. It's really close, a lot closer than we were. Plus, I've heard mixed reviews on the pools at Cosmo.Just me, but I wouldn't base your entire stay on the pool scene.

Definitely not basing on pool scene. Basing the trip around a number of things we want to do in the Aria, Cosmo, Bellagio vicinity so trying to figure out the best place to stay with that in mind. The pool seems to be the only thing that is really dependant on what hotel you specifically book at. Wonder if Aria would bea good compromise in regards to good pool (Liquid), cheaper than Cosmo, and really close to Cosmo and Bellagio scene.

Continuing the pool theme....

I'm reading about "pool parties" that charge a cover like a club. (Liquid at Aria, Tao Beach, etc). Are these open to anybody even if you're not staying at the hotel?

The pool thing during the day is important to one of my buddies so Im trying to figure this all out for planning the trip.

You can go to any pool you want. And a pool that your buddy wants to hit, that's a scene, they don't care of you staying there or not. Before the recession, there were fewer pools, and the pools were a lot tougher. I specifically remember about 5 years ago, friends staying at Mandalay strictly to ensure access to the pools.

Those days are gone. There will still be a door clusterf*** at Hard Rock on Sunday, but you don't want to be there anyway.

The pools you want to hit:

Marquee Dayclub at the Cosmo. It is inside the nightclub, up on the 3rd floor.

Wet Republic at MGM Grand.

Tao Beach at The Venetian. Also in side the nighthclub (Tao).

Encore beach club.

The above places are all going to have a nightclub vibe--DJs, younger scene, the most talent in town. If you want to hit the biggest scene, you need to find out which DJ is playing where the time you are there. Use Las Vegas Weekly (http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/nightlife/).

If you want a true pool, laid back, with hotties, the pool at Encore, Venetian, and especially Mandalay and Cosmo all fit the bill.

Heading to vegas Thursday with a couple buddies and were thinking about shooting some automatic weapons. Anyone have any suggestions for any of the ranges they've been to recently?

Edit: Also, is the Richard Petty Driving Experience worth the $499?

To drive 8 laps. I know Daytona was well worth it and that cost more.

Want to stick in this "area" of the strip and have our hotel possibilities narrowed down to the below without any much other research at this time.

Any I should just cross of my list and not bother researching further as they are complete crap?

The idea is if we stick in this area we can pretty easily get to where we want to go, but will use the hotel mainly just for sleeping (minimally) and hanging out at the pool with hangovers. Want it to be nice, but if able to save some decent coin that we can spend elsewhere for a little inconvenience of some extra walking now and then we're OK with that.

Cosmopolitan ($240/nt)

Bellagio ($225/nt)

Aria ($152/nt)

Vdara ($139/nt)

Planet Hollywood ($125/nt)

Paris ($115/nt)

Bally's ($73/nt)

Above prices are with a quick search on Priceline for the dates we want to be there.

- Looks like Bally's may be a complete dive based on that price?

- Looks like Cosmo and Bellagio are big jumps in price/luxury?

With this, should we narrow our search to Aria, Vdara, Planet Hollywood and Paris? Any of these 4 we should rule out for any reason?

Want to stick in this "area" of the strip and have our hotel possibilities narrowed down to the below without any much other research at this time.Any I should just cross of my list and not bother researching further as they are complete crap? The idea is if we stick in this area we can pretty easily get to where we want to go, but will use the hotel mainly just for sleeping (minimally) and hanging out at the pool with hangovers. Want it to be nice, but if able to save some decent coin that we can spend elsewhere for a little inconvenience of some extra walking now and then we're OK with that.Cosmopolitan ($240/nt)Bellagio ($225/nt)Aria ($152/nt)Vdara ($139/nt)Planet Hollywood ($125/nt)Paris ($115/nt)Bally's ($73/nt)Above prices are with a quick search on Priceline for the dates we want to be there. - Looks like Bally's may be a complete dive based on that price?- Looks like Cosmo and Bellagio are big jumps in price/luxury?With this, should we narrow our search to Aria, Vdara, Planet Hollywood and Paris? Any of these 4 we should rule out for any reason?
Do not stay at Bellagio for what you are looking for. Take a look at Venetian, one of my favorite pool scenes that is not a dj/club vibe. Just a big fan of the island-style bars with TV over head between the pools.

Thanks for the thoughts. Yep, gonna rule out Bellagio...not really our :style:I'm sure Venetian is cool, but it's not in the "area" of the strip we want to be...the above list are basically all in the same vicinity (close to the strip and south of Flamingo Rd.)Also, we are kind of looking for the more upbeat pool scene. Not a big deal for me, but important for one of my buddies. Is Bally's a complete dive? Thinking I should probably just rule that place out as well.

Any have any good or bad thoughts on any of these Vegas dining "bargains"?

http://www.vegas.com/restaurant/specials.html
Only a few of these "bargains" are on the Strip. Many are Downtown, others are on the Boulder Strip or other locals places. These are not the best food in town, for the most part. They are good value. One note in particular: Circus Circus has a fine steakhouse, one of the best in town. Do not, under any curcumstances, put anything in your mouth that came from the cafe, the buffet, or any other food outlet in that place. If you want to kill yourself in Vegas, do it by drinking, like Nick Cage in Leaving Las Vegas.

This will sound dumb but anybody visit the Grand Canyon from downtown Vegas? Recommend a good package or tour? Will be out there for 6 days and looking to break up the trip and do a tourist thing. Did Hoover Dam last time. :bag:

Yes Bally's is an older property...doesn't fit for what you are looking for. Sounds like you are down to Cosmo, Vdara, Aria...planet hollywood and paris if you are willing to walk to others for the pool.

By the way, I would add that walking over to another properties pool, only sounds like a good idea. You do so much walking the last thing you want to do is this. I would recommend staying at the place that has everything you want as you will end up spending the vast majority of the time at the hotel where you sleep anyway...at least I do.

Yep, at this point I'm thinking Aria might be the best bang for our buck. Good location, nice/new place and somewhat reasonably priced. We're going to do the pool thing on Thursday and Friday...I've read that Liquid at Aria has one of the best Thursday pool party scenes. Than Friday our plan is to spend most of the day at Cosmopolitan's...would be an easy walk back and from from Aria to Cosmo to use their Marquee pool if still looking for a party scene. Or just stay at Aria's pool again Friday if we choose. The darkhorse here is Vdara...what is the story there? Don't hear or read much of anything about that place.

As somone who lived right there in the area between Vegas and the Grand Canyon (if you go south rim, which I'd suggest, but most tours go to th skywalk), 'll tell you what I tell everyone - Grand Canyon is overrated. It's cool for about 10 seconds and from Vegas you're looking at a couple hour trip and high expenses (the Indian reservation makes you pay like 3 fees). Instead, I'd suggest renting a boat on Lake Mead.

From the rates you've quoted Aria is the no-brainer IMO. Good poker room too and shops for your chick.

Not going with chick this time, group of 3 guys.Did some add'l searching, and found some deals/coupons, etc., that come to this.- Aria: $547 for 3 night stay- gets a free city view upgrade and a $50 hotel credit ($169 Wed., $169 Thurs, $209 Fri)- Cosmo: $576 for 3 night stay- just basic city room, no upgrades or credits, etc. ($144 Wed., $144 Thurs, $288 Fri)If stay at Aria and use their pool (Liquid for the party scene) do we get any special perks for staying there...do we still have to pay the cover charge? Same with Cosmo and using the Marquee Dayclub pool, any perks if stay there?

I pretty sure if you place a bid on Priceline or Hotwire for the top 5 star hotel you will get a better price.
