Vegas (2 Viewers)

Has anyone stayed at Caesars? How is the pool scene? Is it possible to slip a $20 to get upgraded? Is it even worth it?
I have stayed there. I tried the 20 thing and was not happy with it. I think the room I ended up in was the same or worse than the one I would have had anyway. But I guess it depends on what room you book originally.I liked the pool. Good scene and good music. Not great though, but nice.I didn't like that you go down there early and there is a towel on every lounge chair even when no one is at the pool. We just moved two towels and sat down.

Have a conference in July in Vegas at the Bellagio. Had the conference room rate for 4 nights but managed to get 2 free nights at Aria I'm using. I run my own business so it's out of my pocket. Hoping to get the other 2 nights free as well so I can shave off more cost. Has anyone stayed at the Aria? I haven't even ever set foot in it. I was out there a couple times during construction and then last year when I was there and staying at Bellagio somehow I managed to never go in there. Also, how is the poker room there?

I love the Aria sportsbook. Comfortable seating and large tvs. Has probably become my favorite sportsbook in Vegas. Haven't been to the Poker Room, but the good thing about Aria is it is right on the strip.

One negative for me is that there seems to be a lack of energy at the casino. Hard to explain, but it just feels boring. Very clean, and has an upscale feeling to it, IMO.

Totally agree. I like the "vibe" at almost all the other casinos better than the Aria.

Thinking of taking a trip over labor day weekend which i know is busy.. like Thursday to Sunday night.

just taking the wife.. not looking to party hard or anything..

generally i just book mandalay bay or TI because i love them.

Just want a nice pool, a good meal out, and probably to catch a show (i've already seen mystere and "o".. open to other cirque shows though.. what's the next best one?)

Anyway, i wouldn't mind branching out from Mandalay or TI, but I'd like to see what's recommended here.

Don't really care about the gambling either.. but would like a place with a good spa for the wife.

How is "Le Reve" at the wynn

As long as you aren't afraid of off-color humor, see Absinthe at Caesar's. I've seen most of the Cirque shows and have now seen Absinthe three times. Best show I've ever seen.

Aria is very stale imo. In trying (admirably) to get away from the cheesiness of Vegas and the over the top, gaudy, Trump like approach, they have ended up with an almost sterile environment better suited for residential living rather than Vegas (even high class) fun, games and debauchary.

That's why I love the Cosmo so much. It's a far more sophisticated feel than typical Vegas, but its anything but boring.

what type of show is that.. just comedy?

the wife really likes her acrobatic/feats of strength stuff.

and heck, i do as well.. the "o" show was flipping fantastic.. worth the outrageous prices and i'm cheap!

ok - i googled it.. interesting.. but it's outside in a tent?

if i go it's going to be in late august and that could be incredibly hot!

Would I have to reserve "o" tickets in advance or can I just go up the night of the show and wait in line? What is the recommended way to get tickets to the "o"?

The tent is air conditioned inside - it's not an open tent but more of a "permanent" tent-like structure.

The show is comedy mixed with acrobatic/feats of strength. I really dislike going to stand-up comedy or "comedy" shows, but this is a completely different beast. The actors/acrobats involved are uber-talented.

I bought mine on vegas.com

I enjoyed Absinthe a great deal as well. Highly recommend. Walk by the tent during the day and they are usually handing out cards for $20 off the show.

generally i just book mandalay bay or TI because i love them.
Anything specific about these guys you love? Ive always been a Caesar's property guy (PH, Flamingo, Paris) mostly cause I used to get a lot of free offers from them. Since that well has dried up Im thinking of branching out too. Was thinking of trying TI next trip.

A few takes on the current topics:

Highest recommendation possible for Absinthe. Comedy, acrobatics, hold your breath intensity, burlesque...it has it all. I took a group of 6 last time, and each one of us had a different favorite act.

I often stay at TI. I stay based on location and price. They have their own player's card, so a little bit of play tends to go a long way in terms of offers (free weekday; $69 weekends). I've always been able to book multiple rooms and use the $20 (or $50 for multiple rooms) trick to get on high floors and/or a suite. TI has a really nice location being next to Mirage and across from the Venetian/Palazzo.

If you are looking for more of a quiet/romantic getaway, I suggest using Priceline to bid on 5 star hotels. You will most likely be placed in Trump...it's a true 5 star. Beautiful lobby and rooms with lots of square footage and immaculate bathrooms. It's across from the Fashion Show Mall but has no casino. The ladies liked the spa a lot when we stayed there.

TI - location, value, not as "huge" .. i'll never do MGM again.. just too much damn walking to get anywhere.

Mandalay - love the vibe, love the pool, love the posh-ness of "THEhotel" love RM Seafood, love the Mixx lounge way up high... lots of memories from RumJungle too before it got shut down.

I've had both some crazy buddies trips there and some fun times just as a couple, or even by myself.

i don't get any "free" offers because i don't go enough and don't gamble with enough gusto.

:goodposting: I've never stayed there but the wife and I were meeting another couple there for dinner once. From the time I pulled into the parking garage to the time we walked into the restaurant: 50 minutes.

Yeah, I've noticed less and less free room offers from the Caesar's properties. It sucks.

It does. Used to get offers to go down and play in blackjack and slot tourneys quarterly (despite never playing slots), and get 3-4 nights free or very cheap. Wasn't a big player either and mostly played poker, but went consistently 2-3 times a year as the offers were hard to pass up. Since the change from Harrahs to Caesars seems like they have shifted focus, scaled back on the gambler promos instead promoting Vegas more as an entertainment getaway. Sucks as the promos were sweet.

Aria is a very nice casino with an excellent poker room. It's a top 5 poker room - up there with Bellagio and Wynn. Drink service is very good if you care about that kind of thing. Pool scene is good if you are 30-40 something. Not many college knuckleheads, few kids, but not full of crusty old folks either.

I agree the casino vibe isn't great, but who cares if you are there for poker?

Going for TigerJam May 18-19. Kid Rock at the Mandalay Bay. We'll do a group dinner at Border Grill, stumble into the concert, do the after party at the House of Blues, gamble, party, then do race book and pool on Sunday. Taking my son (graduated from college) and daughter (just turned 21 too). Looking forward to it. Wish it was longer, but can't leave until after the graduation ceremony. We'll take my daughter to -5, she'll dig that. Anybody been to that new club at Mandalay Bay? She'll probably want to check that out with other friends that are going.

The new club wasn't open when I was there last month.

I had the all-you-can-eat brunch at Border Grill... it was excellent.

Any tricks to narrow in on Cosmo? Any amenities that stand out from the rest while bidding?

Good to know - I haven't used priceline for a few years...didn't know the split up the strip into parts.

Used to be. Now it seems you can do better than or get near what you can score on Priceline by using Hotwire or if you're really industrious, finding promo codes and plugging them into the hotels websites directly.

A couple I use are:

smartervegas.com and broadwaybox.com

thanks, i've never used any of the travel sites, priceline, hotwire, expedia.. any of them.

i've always seemed to get what i thought was a fair price with direct booking, but maybe i'm missing out.

i'll try smartervegas

Booked for the Paris this Sun-Tue. I have a Red Room Premiere already. I've never stayed at Paris...is it worth the $20 trick here or am is what I've got already as good as it really gets at Paris?

I'll be in Mandalay Bay Friday-Sunday night. I just can't get excited for this trip and I have a free ticket for the Stones. We're doing a semi-family reunion all Mother's Day deal, and since I've been a single dad so long the Stones ticket is my Mother's Day present. I really don't want to deal with this crowd and dragging a 14 year old around Vegas generally sucks for both us.

Always get player cards wherever you stay and use them. When you call for reservations give them the card number and let them know you are shopping several properties for a room. Vegas is still hurting. They want you in their casino unless its booked. I stayed free at Red Rock in an upgraded room last visit and the three nights in Mandalay this weekend are $59 total. I got that deal on three rooms by negotiating directly with their reservations department. By negotiating I let them look me up by my card, which isn't impressive there at all, and I said, "Thanks, that's a little steep. Let me call the MGM and maybe I'll get back to you." Gonna try the $20 bill at check in for grins. Although I'm tempted to sell the Stones ticket, call myself a big winner and not go. haha

Just got back.

I've been to Vegas >20 times easily. It's turning pretty crappy imho.

Harrah's properties have definitely been comping less and less free rooms. This is the first time in ~10 years I was charged anything for a hotel room, and the best deal I could swing was at Ballys (my cost was about $220 total Sat/Sun/Mon nights).

The good:

Was upgraded at desk to a suite. No 20 dollar bill trick needed either. Don't know why they did it, tbh but it was a nice welcome to Vegas.

There are low limit tables up and down the strip. I play craps/roulette/blackjack and found $10 tables everywhere and $5 tables at some of the lower end casinos - even saturday night.

I played a bulk of my time at Harrahs properties (Caesers, Ballys, Paris), but I also put in a lot of time at Bellagio which is quickly becoming my favorite place to play.

The bad:

So much work being done on the strip, it's a disaster. They actually have the sidewalk walled off and force you to walk through "The Quad" - old IP I believe. Bills Gambling Saloon is closed and half ripped apart. Eyesores everywhere.

The homeless are wayyyy more prevelant than I ever remembered on the strip.

And this may be the old man, get off my lawn in me, but there are a lot of low rent, heavily tatted boys and girls all over the place now. I am not an elitist (yeah I am), but there were a few minor annoying incidents that I never had issues with in the past.

I had a fairly decent time, came out about even, my room was actually comped from some previous rewards points I never used....but I do feel that overall the strip is devolving.

This has me nervous... what are they slating for dates on things being cleaned up a bit down there? Going out in July and I'm sure it'll still be a train wreck

Mandalay was my spot for about 5 years but the pool is just completely overrun with kids now.

Buffet is good there. If you are interested in 24hrs of gluttony or want a good way to put a cap on food spending, get the buffet of buffets pass for $50

We're doing a semi-family reunion all Mother's Day deal, and since I've been a single dad so long the Stones ticket is my Mother's Day present. I really don't want to deal with this crowd and dragging a 14 year old around Vegas generally sucks for both us.
Mandalay was my spot for about 5 years but the pool is just completely overrun with kids now.
If I had my way, we'd be at Lake Las Vegas away from the madness. I lived there long enough to have my fill of the Strip. I am going to open a locals online account at one of the Cantor sportsbooks. Ahem... I mean my nephew who lives there is going to open one. I'm just gonna help. ;)

Probably here.

I've seen that place on the way in.. Man it's out there all by itself.

It's not a bad place - I stayed out that way while I did some work and went to the M plenty of nights - it is gorgeous inside. Crap table crew was fantastic. Easy in and out and very low key with lots of locals. Views were superb - the whole town lit up before you
