Vegas (3 Viewers)

Going in 2 weeks, never been, don't really gamble. We're going for 4 days, but we're meeting up with my wife's brother and 3 others, who are there for 10 days  . They're coming from England and it's a 50th birthday bucket list type thing for them I guess.

Anyway, any advice on beer? Specifically, I love craft beer and because of protectionist laws and crappy importers, we really don't get much good US craft beer here in Ontario. Looking for both shops to stop in and stock up for the hotel/bringing stuff back, as well as where to go in terms of a craft beer bar or brewery - and since we're kind of on their timeline and I don't know the extent of their plans, if I could only make it to one, which should it be?

We are staying at Luxor (again, their choice), if that makes any difference.

Others can probably answer better, but I believe The Pub at Monte Carlo has a pretty large beer collection.  Not sure how much is craft, or if you can take any home, but it's close to Luxor and I've heard good things.

It's not the fanciest place but Ellis Island Casino and brewery brew their own beer and I believe that their drafts are only $1 each. :banned:

They also have great deals on breakfast.

-eta - it looks like their drafts are now $2.25 according to their menu. It was two years ago that I was there.

They have most of the popular west coast micro's. There's a thread on Beer Advocate about this issue, and here's what one guy has to say:

--------

I come here regularly for work and the scene is better every time. Staying at Mandalay Bay right now. The pool bar had Sculpin and Ranger in cans. Lagunitas IPA is all over the place. Yard House at the Linq has some great taps. Burger Bar in the shops at Mandalay Bay. Public House in the Venetian. Pub at Monte Carlo. Todd English PUB in Aria. Banger Brewing if you get up to Fremont Street. Walgreens on the Strip has great beer to go. The craft beer scene here is massively underrated.

No beer recommendations, but the Luxor sucks. You really should try to change the hotel.

They're committed. I would move if I can stay in the area for a better rate equal hotel or equal rate better hotel. Excalibur is next door and cheaper but maybe even worse? Mandalay Bay other side and more expensive.  Surprisingly not a great discount from Hotwire/Priceline deals from what I can see.

Luxor and Excalibur are the two worst "major" hotels on the strip. They are both quite old and not kept up really well. Check Paris, Mirage, and even the Linq. The Linq is pretty reasonable and in a great location. The Flamingo is also sometimes very reasonable and a pretty decent place.

I am headed there in a month. Staying at the Aria for the first time. If I've been staying at the Cosmo for the last few trips, am I going to be really disappointed?

Is reasonable $200+ a night or am I going at a high priced time?

That's pretty high for those hotels. Is that what you are paying at the Luxor?
We're paying $154US incl resort fees - we booked a while back but it's refundable. Flamingo is closest price wise at $185 US incl fees. Mirage is $293 US/night incl resort fees. Linq looks to be sold out, Paris $211 US/night incl resort fees. NYNY $202/night incl fees.

Like I say, the people we're with are committed to Luxor. Maybe it's because it's the least expensive other than Stratosphere, Circus Circus, etc.. If I could find a better deal in a reasonable walk to Luxor, I could convince my wife to switch, but don't really see one so far.

That sounds like a busy week for whatever reason.

For those prices, may as well stay there,  the other places you mentioned suck worse than Luxor.

Sleep there,  do everything else elsewhere.

The Saturday (June 4) skews the average per night, for whatever reason prices are insane that night. Our nightly breakdown is something like 282/165/102/72

Disagree 100 percent. Luxor is in a bad location and the rooms suck. It is well worth $40 more per night to stay at the flamingo.

Sounds like you are locked into Luxor. It will be fine. Just don't get trapped into spending all your time there. Get out and walk the strip and see the other hotels. There are lots of good restaurant recommendations in this thread.

Including resort fees. Those prices seem about right. Fees are usually about 30 a night so 124 at the Luxor sounds like it's in the ballpark to me.

I couldnt disagree more. The tower at luxor is highly underrated for the price and the location is fine. Takes no time at all to take the moving walkways and you are basically at NYNY in no time flat. With all the new places right there around the arena I think it is a fun end of the strip to be on. We have always liked mandalay bay and only make our way there when we stay at the south end.Mandalay bay has good beer available while gambling. Monte has the pub. NYNY has pour 24.

Well, we just disagree I guess. My favorite part of the strip is over by the Venetian, Mirage, Ceasar's, Flamingo. Easy access and just tons to do and the strip is super busy over there. But it's Vegas - it's hard not to have fun no matter where you are.

Went to the Luxor once... what a dive. Ended up in some chick's room briefly to for her friend to grab something (sadly not as interesting as it sounds) and it reminded me of a motel 6.

I stayed in the Luxor once and the room was awful.  I just had the standard room that you get from booking through hotwire so maybe it's possible to upgrade to a nicer room.  The location is also terrible.  I play poker and the poker room is awful.  As far as I'm concerned, basically nothing good at all about that place.

It's like a pyramid shaped stratosphere.

I agree,  I recently stayed at Mandalay Bay and I love that place and they have Dogfish 90 minute in bottles to get while you play video poker, and it's an awesome place... but the strip experience is really lacking.

My goto cheap hotel for staying mid-strip is Treasure Island.   Cheap and nice enough and everything is very accessible.   Not a great pool though, and don't get a strip view room because it will be noisy due because it's like their sound proofing isn't very good and the hotel is too close to the road.

Hooters hotel is fantastic. There's decent enough in-house fun and is across the street from the MGM grand.

10 - 15 minute walk from everything relevant. 30 - 45 minute walk to Westgate.

Lyft > Uber

I love walking around in Vegas... but 30-45..  GTFO, I'm not even that cheap.
Yeah, in March we stayed at Mandalay Bay.  My buddy wanted to walk down the strip as he hadn't seen any of the hotels.  We walked all the way down to Caesars stopping at a number of casinos to drink and gamble along the way.  Around 3 a.m., we were ready to call it a night.  I walked over to the taxi line at Caesars and he questioned why we weren't walking back.  I gave in and walked back but that walk was brutal.

Could use a little hotel room advice here.

I am heading to Vegas September 8th-11th with my girlfriend and both our families.  I'm picking up the rooms (I'm an idiot but this is the first time they are meeting, and trying to make a good impression).  I am just realizing how expensive this will be.  I have Starwood points but those hotels aren't really on the strip and a lot of these people have never been to Vegas so want them to experience.   I have another credit card where I can get about $2500 of visa cash cards if I turn in my points which helps.  Anyway, I've been checking Expedia and for those dates for any decent hotel it seems to be around $200 a night.  Somehow I got on Veneitians mailing list (I've never stayed there) and got an offer the expires tomorrow for rooms at $200 a night if I prepay (doesn't include $32 a day fee but includes taxes.). Comes to about $700 total for a 3 day stay before the daily fee, so $800 per room.   The question is, is this a great deal on Venetian (claims 33% off) that I have to take it.  I know we are going for sure, so not worried about having to cancel.  Or should I wait for a better deal?   While out there I think seeing Human nature would be fun, and that is at the Venetian hotel, but besides that we are going to the George Strait concert and other plans are just to walk around and see things (Bellagio water show, different casinos etc).   A

What do you say Vegas vets?  Veneitian worth pulling the trigger now and just locking up?  Can I find a better deal?  Are the rooms there as nice as they look?

It seems like you should be able to do better, but perhaps not. I just checked Trivago, which I recommend if you're not a degenerate with a hotel relationship. They indicate the same deal is being offered through BookIt.com, but I can't tell when it ends. It's Week 1 of the NFL season, so prices might be slightly elevated for that reason. Bone-in ribeye at Delmonico FTW.

I really like the Venetian and it is my favorite hotel in Vegas.  Price seems about right but you might find a better rate on priceline or hotwire.  I believe I went to betterbidding.com for some tips last time.  If you search priceline for 5 star hotel north, with Casino,  I believe your options are Venetian,  Palazzo,  or Wynn.  All are very nice.

Yah if you're not a regular gambler (total rewards, m life, etc) ....try bidding on priceline and hotwire. There are message boards to help. The Venetian is a nice hotel, so hot can't go wrong there.

Also check Air BnB. Lots of suites on there.

Not sure how many rooms you need, but check out Elara hotel (connected to Planet Hollywood)...They have huge suites at reasonable prices. You might be better off of getting a 2 bedroom suite+ 1 adjoining regular room.

Stayed at Elara a couple of times...it's very nice...I'd recommend it.

Miracle Mile shopping is good for the wife.

Lots of different things contained within that one space.

We loved Elara. We got the one bedroom with a full kitchen. That was pretty nice. We went to Sin City Brewing right away and bought a couple growlers for the room.

:lmao:  I am officially the cheapest guy in here. My wife and I recently stayed at Rio because we got three nights free. We ate dinner at the Yard house at the linq. We drove and parked. I had a few too many. So we walked back at the end of the night to the Rio because I am too cheap to get a cab. Then in the morning I went for a run and snagged the car.

He's going to Vegas with his girlfriend, his parents and her parents. Why would he want adjoining rooms?
