Vegas (6 Viewers)

Anyone been to the new Lotus of Siam location? I'm hoping they carry over everything from the original. I'm a little concerned that their quality is slipping a little bit over the past 10 years or so since they have been "found".

I still remember the first time I pulled up there and my wife was legitimately freaked out about going into that strip mall at night. Couldn't disagree with her but that little ####hole Thai restaurant was AWESOME and we have been going back ever since.

The wife and I went last week to Vegas. Here's the highlights.

This was our, I don't know, 30th trip to Vegas maybe. And for the vast majority of those trips we've stayed at the Venetian. This time we decided to take some of the advice in this thread and stay at the Cosmo in a balcony room. I am a Marriott Platinum Elite member (look at me..) so we got upgraded to a pretty damn cool room. Our room overlooked the Bellagio fountains and had a very nice sized balcony - enough room for two love seats and ottomans, and still plenty of room to walk around. We LOVED the room and the view. It was spectacluar.

But, we hated the Cosmo. Just not our scene in there. It was way too hoity toity for us. The Venetian is just as nice but more our vibe. We usually gamble at Casino Royale or go downtown, but we like to stay at nice places. It's just that for some reason, the Cosmo didn't do it for us. We will still probablly stay there again because of the awesome room, but we couldn't get out of that place fast enough once we were in the casino.

We ate at our two favorite places - Mon Ami Gabi and Yardbird. Both were awesome, as usual.

We tried Prime at the Bellagio because it was my birthday and we decided to have a nice dinner by the fountains. The view was great, but the food was just OK. My seabass just wasn't very good, and her short ribs were a bit tough. For the prices that place charges, the food should have been top notch. We probably won't go back there.

We also ate at China Poblano at the Cosmo. I really liked it, but my wife wasn't a big fan. I thought the menu was pretty interesting and I really enjoyed the food. They have a great mix of tacos and dim sum - doesn't seem like it would work but it does.

We had lunch at Hell's Kitchen. The ads are EVERYWHERE in Vegas for this place. My wife wanted to try it because of the ads, but man, this place sucked. I had the pizza and she had a short rib grilled cheese sandwich and both of them were just not very good. And the service was weird, everyone seemed very on edge. We will not be going back.

They are tearing down the Monte Carlo. I didn't know this was happening. I've only been in that place once, but it was odd to see it coming down. That whole area near the arena is pretty cool, and they are tearing this place down to make room for a large outdoor area with restaurants, etc. It should be pretty cool once it's done.

I played in two small poker tournaments at Harrah's. They have these little 20 or so person tournaments going all day. I won the first one and took third in the second, so it was a pretty good day!

Overall, another great trip to Vegas. Thanks to everyone in this thread. Keep the suggestions coming. Even though I've been there a million times, I learn something new every time I open this thread.

Nice update Kutta.  Going twice in March.  First one for a big conference the first week of March. Staying at the Venetian, playing golf at Bali Hai, and have dinners booked at Yardbird and SW Steakhouse at the Wynn.  Thinking about going to the Rugby 7's tournament which is in town that weekend. But it is work - massive conventions are the suck.  Best night will be the last when it's all done - we'll probably get hammered listening to Phoenix at the Mandalay Bay lounge.

March 23-26 going with 2 other couples. Staying at Mandalay Bay.  Strip Steak at the MGM Friday night before seeing Chris Stapleton and then Libertine Social (newer place - anyone tried it yet?) at the Mandalay Bay Saturday night before Kid Rock.  Open to other restaurants but want to stay within those properties to maximize time before the concerts..  Also March Madness continues that weekend so should be cool in the sports book

Every time someone mentions Mon Ami Gabi my heart gets warm.

i didn't know thy were taking down the Monte Carlo either.  Used to be my value location on the north side of the strip.  One time a sandwich trick there got me a top floor huge ### suite.  Poker room was small but quaint.

They aren't exactly tearing down Monte Carlo. They are doing extensive renovations and it will emerge as Park MGM. The theater is rumored to be Britney's new landing spot. But yeah, not going to be much of a 'value' spot.

It looked pretty torn down to me...

Were you there Wed for lunch by any chance? I was at Bellagio for work event last week. Ate at China Poblato, Strip Steak (Mandalay)  and Lavo (venetian) besides work meals.

Love the cosmo. It is a different vibe than venetian but I enjoy it.

I was in Vegas with my family last weekend for my son's club baseball tournament.   We hit up Yardbird for dinner on Friday night due to the recommendations in this thread.  We had the chicken and waffles and thought it was very good.  Although, I probably would have preferred the regular syrup rather than the alcohol syrup.  The fried chicken was very good and both our kids 14 and 11 enjoyed it.  It was a bit pricey but worth the experience.

We didn't have a reservation and at first were told we would have to sit at the bar or on the couches in the front.  After some talking we were able to get a table.

Wait. YOU liked something that wasn't just white bread and plain? Amazing...

We were there Tuesday for lunch. Missed you by a day!

Just found out I'll be in Vegas the end of May for a work conference. First timer here, so looks like I'll need to study this thread.

Headed to Vegas mid March for first two rounds of March Madness. Psyched to play some craps and bet the games.
Have a convention the 2nd week that ends Thursday, going to stay until Sunday and catch the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. Not as crazy as the first week, I'm sure, but looking forward to it.

Anybody done any running around Vegas?  Rented a car to get out of town and hoping to get in some trail runs.

Tell me what you are looking for and i can direct you. Elevation gain, distance, how far you are willing to drive etc.

Jealous never been for MM. Where you staying?
We are staying at the Flamingo - not exactly high rollers. My buddies have been going since college, over 20 years now. I hop in every 2-3 years. We fly out Wednesday night and return Sunday morning

I get so excited to go and by Saturday I kinda want to get the hell out of there. Too much drinking and too little sleep, we fall back into our college ways even though we are over 40.

Sounds familiar. :banned:     You guys bet enough to get reserved spots in a sports book? Or just lay your bets and go play?

Arrive Wednesday night around 8. Craps, Blackjack and drinks. Will feel like #### on Thursday.

Thursday watching games all day at the Hard Rock. Reserved a space, all you can drink, tons of games and a mobile sportsbook on site. Beautiful. Table games after hoops are over. I will feel like #### on Friday.

Friday, sleep in a bit, hit the pool. Watch some games. Playing Top Golf at the MGM that afternoon. Table games and drinks that night. Will feel like #### on Saturday.

Saturday is a non-event day, just hanging out, watching games, playing craps and day drinking. Will slow down, but will still feel like #### on the plane ride home Sunday.

Will feel like #### until Thursday. Why do we do this?

Such an amazing plan right here. Take advantage of the pools. My first couple trips, I was GO GO GO with no relaxation time planned and by the end of the trip I never wanted to return. Gotta take a day off in Vegas.

Totally agree. We used to have no plans at all and that was just fine in our 20's. Now we need a bit more structure, we can't drink all day and be just fine, we need some distractions or else we are all taking naps or bed-bound with huge hangovers.

Ill be at the Hard Rock that Thursday as well.  You talking about what they’ve done the previous couple years at “the joint” and now they are doing in a different place there?

I think so. It's been a couple of years since I went. Took that much time to get over the hangover.

Booked into the Aria on the 15th....looking forward to some ??? Thursday and Friday.

Then some St Paddy’s day debauchary on Fremont st on Saturday.☘️☘️☘️

Pour me into my seat for the red eye flight back to JFK Sunday night.✈️✈️✈️

Sounds very familiar..... Going to be so much damn fun! Getting excited now - kind of like women and childbirth - 9 months of discomfort and it hurts like hell, but a year or so later they are back pregnant again. Selective memory.

Attending HIMSS also Judge?

South point is the money spot for me every year for Thurs/Fri for the opening weekend. Usually get down there at around 730-8 and have no issues getting seats saved for friends.

South Point is really nice, but it's so far out there and you have to be committed to stay there until all the games you bet on are done to cash your tickets

That's the awesome thing about living here :)

Heading to Las Vegas for a work trip in mid-June. I have been tasked to plan the dinners for two nights since "you have been there".

Looking for cool but not crazy expensive. Original Yardbird is here in Miami so while it's not out, I can get there anytime I want so it's not very special. Granted most of the people that will be attending the dinner aren't from Miami so I'll have to keep that in play.

Don't necessarily want high-end steak place because they tend to be ridiculously overpriced and even though I'm on expenses, no sense in having to get CEO approval for a crazy expense report.

Has anyone been to the new Lotus of Siam location yet? I love that place but need it to be a little more upper-scale than their original location in order to satisfy the snobs in the group (and our customers).

Wife and I are big fans of Firefly. It is just off strip on paradise. One of the most fun nights I remember in vegas was hitting firefly for early bird special, then hitting up Gordon Biersch for oktoberfests, hitting hofbrauhaus for some more beer and a giant pretzel to go, and then settling in and watching the rest of Monday night football at the Hard Rock.

Musashi (hibachi) is a great spot in that same parking lot that firefly is in too. I'd definitely hit that up if you're a fan of hibachi.

Hadn't heard of Firefly before but just read on the website that it's the same chef that started up Mon Ami Gabi. Huh...
