Verizon Smartphones? (1 Viewer)

I'm going to get the Incredible 2 for my wife. Sounds like a great phone.

But I just cannot decide which 4G phone I want to get for myself. They each have pluses/minuses.

NOt to be a wet blanket on all of this, but I was a die-hard ANdroid guy. I bought an EVO, hooked my Dad up with an X, got my reps Incredibles....and I'm here to tell you that an IPhone is better. I switched two weeks ago and am glad I didn't wait a day longer. The iphone does everythind ANdroid does, but it does it without a hitch and is much easier to use.Just a comment from an Android devotee turned fanboy.
I have been pretty disappointed with my Droid X. Thing is incredibly glitchy. Screen freezes up, sometimes it just shuts down in the middle of a call and reboots. Not impressed at all. Unfortunately my upgrade date isn't until next May, so I'm stuck with it for now. But I plan on making the switch to an iPhone at that time. I wish I would have held out for a few months longer and gotten the iPhone when it came to Verizon. But I got tired of believing the rumors.

Was already heavily leaning towards moving to Boost Mobile in August. The new data tiers at Verizon pretty much insure it.If you're looking at Sprint and not TOO obsessed with getting the latest cutting edge phone, Boost looks like a great option. You can currently get an Android 2.2 phone with unlimited everything for $50 a month. And your bill goes down by $5 a month every 6 months down to $35 a month if you pay your bill on time. So after a year and a half, you're paying $35 for unlimited minutes, texts and data. And it's all on Sprint's network.
Where do you see these rates? I'm seeing $100/month on their website for unlimited everything.

The Charge is what I'm leaning towards even though the nice little dish at the Verizon store last night said she preferred the TBolt.

X owner here and I have had zero issues that you are experiencing. My wife has an iphone (at&t) and will be switching to a Droid X2 in September.

any idea what the tethering charges are going to be post-july 7th?Pretty sure i'm gonna miss out on the new galaxy because of the whole tiered data after 7/7 issue.Tip: the charge is cheaper on amazon.

No clue about the tethering charges.Charge is the same for me on Verizon or Amazon - $200. My mistake. You're right. It is still $250 on Verizon. Weird.

Tethering is $20 extra for 2GB.
Data plans:

2GB – $30/month

5GB – $50/month

10GB – $80/month

If you would like to add tethering on to any of those packages, you can purchase 2GB of data at an additional cost of $20 per month.

Data plans w/ tethering:

4GB – $50/month

7GB – $70/month

12GB – $100/month

If you go over your purchased amount of data, it will cost you $10 per 1GB.

Tablet data plans will now go to $30 for 2GB of data as well instead of $20 for 1GB of data that is currently available.

Thanks, I will definitely look into this if I'm not grandfathered on Verizon.

Glad for you. I absolutely hate this thing. Problem is, it's so sporadic if I took it into Verizon it would probably work perfectly for them and they'd think I was just trying to get a newer phone.

I'll probably go with the Thunderbolt. Big screen, 4G, 8 mp camera, Android. Not sure what it's missing that I'd want.
My wife and I have had them for about a month. Last week, 4G LTE just hit the area. Couldn't be happier. Best phone I've ever had.
I've heard the battery does not last through a day. Thoughts?
Yes, the thing is a battery hog. That's the only complaint that I have. But, I keep it on a charger overnight and keep it on the charger when at work, and that seems to do a decent job of keeping the phone working.
Pretty much my habit now.

Odd. When I compared the Tbolt to the Revolution and Charge, I came away decided on the Tbolt. But going back now and comparing it to the Charge alone I don't see anything compelling. Tbolt has a longer 'standby' battery life but MUCH shorter 'usage' life. My phone is in 'standby' more than 'usage' so maybe that was it, but I don't recall considering battery at all in my original comparison.

I moved up from a Motorola Droid v1 to the TBolt for $149 on the Verizon website. Awesome phone, but the battery life was pitiful the first few days. Did my research online on what to tweek and turn off, now the battery lasts all day long with moderate use of phone, web, texting, etc. Primary to saving battery life is to turn off the 4G when you are not in a 4G zone. It will constantly search for the 4G signal and burn through the battery. The Blockbuster app was a constant draw as well. I disabled that too. Don't be scared by the Tbolt battery detractors out there.I compared the Tbolt to the Charge, and the Tbolt just "felt" like it was the more quality phone. Charge felt cheaply made. Tbolt has a 32GB SD card, which was the final kicker. I store a lot of music on my phone. Also, sold my old Droid on eBay for $120, so the Tbolt only netted me a cost of $29.Just my two cents.

Bought my wife the Incredible 2 last night. In the little bit I've worked with it it seems like an amazing little device.

My wife had more of a "cow at a new gate" syndrome though. I hope she gets over her Luddite tendencies and finds a use for it.

uh, awesome. How's the 2.2 android OS? is it slower or anything?

My biggest concern is will I still have unlimited data for $29.99 when I go from my current 3G phone to a new 4G phone this fall?

•EXISTING CUSTOMERS- That have our $29.99 unlimited data plan WILL BE GRANDFATHERED IN, they will keep their unlimited plan after 7/7/11•EXISTING CUSTOMERS- That current have the unlimited data WILL BE ABLE TO UPGRADE AND KEEP the unlimited data feature (No known end date on this as of this moment)I think the second one means you're covered.

That seems to be the $50,000 question.Blogs seem to be hesitantly saying yes... though nothing is definite. People are focusing on the "...or upgrading..." language of those releases and saying that should qualify people jumping from 3G to 4G phones. From Andy's link:

EXISTING CUSTOMERS- That current have the unlimited data WILL BE ABLE TO UPGRADE AND KEEP the unlimited data feature (No known end date on this as of this moment)
In other news, the Galaxy S2 launched in Puerto Rico!

Man I hope that is true. Some guys on slickdeals don't seem to be so sure. http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=1071437&t=3044309

I'm going to go ahead and upgrade and am down between these two phones:

Droid X2 vs. Droid Incredible 2

Any advice?

I would go Thunderbolt, HTC's UI is much much better than Samsung's. Just wish the Thunderbolt would have Sense 3.0 on it.
That battery life issue on the TBolt is probably a dealbreaker for me.
Anybody tried the extended battery for the Thunderbolt? Under $50 from Amazon. Thunderbolt also had faster download speeds than the Charge.Thunderbolt faster 4G LTE

I can't tell you what they were (purged from the memory banks) but the differences I came up with resulted in the Incredible 2 being the clear one to pick.

There are other factors to consider, but HTC has a better UI than Motorola.
For me this is the biggest factor. Each mfg puts their own spin on the Android UI. I have used Samsung, Motorola and HTC and would rank them in this order HTC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Motorola>>>>>>>>>>Samsung. Samsung's UI is just terrible and Motorola's is tolerable while HTC is very good UI. If you are planning on rooting the device then the UI doesn't factor in anymore and it comes down to the physical hardware, which the X2 should win.Stock phone I would pick the Incredible 2Rooting and using a custom UI I would pick the X2

Well my wifes iphone has been having some battery issues so I switched her over to my companies verizon account yesterday and brought her home an Incredible 2. She was pretty shocked at how much you could change the phone's appearance and functionality. We put beautiful widgets (clock and weather) and launcher pro on it to start. After playing with the phone for a couple of hours she asked why the iphone is more popular than her phone and I really don't know the answer.

Are you waiting for your new every 2 to come available? It might not work now, because you've already got the data on your plan, but I got them to knock about 30 days off my NE2 date by emailing and asking for it. I told them I was upgrading to a smart phone.

Took back the Incredible 2. Nothing wrong for it but for the fact that it was too slow for the internet type stuff my wife wanted to do.

She gravitated toward the LG Revolution and while it's currently the ugly, red-headed stepchild of the Verizon 4G line she really seems to like it and I have to admit, so do I. I had discounted it but now might end up getting one myself.

Also, I might try to game the system a bit with Best Buy. They have a 30 day return policy (whereas Verizon only has 14 days) and I might get something now and hope either the Bionic or Galaxy 2 come out in that window. Something to think about.

Too slow? My wife is loving hers and loves the internet browsing. What's the wife doing on the net thats its slow? What browser is she using?

The delivered browser, whatever that was.Really, I think she disliked the UI a lot and that might have been an even bigger factor. I don't know the details of all of them but the UI on the Revolution was just more intuitive to her.

ah ok. As soon as I picked up my wifes phone I put dolphinhd, firefox and launcher pro on. She hasn't wanted to use her iphone except to play hanging with friends.

My understanding is that you need to have the smartphone dataplan. The dataplan for feature phones is apparently not the same. At least that is what they are saying over at droidforums.net

wirefly has the revolution for $99 if you're leaning that way

That's only for new contracts, IIRC.And she already got it this weekend. She does seem to really like it. As much as she can, that is. She's a bit of a Luddite when it comes to technology.
it's for upgrades as well
:excited: Sweet! I may end up getting one of these myself. Although the price drop could suggest that either the Bionic or Galaxy S2 might be ready to come out. Decisions, decisions.

I'm able to "upgrade at a discounted price" but wont hit my new every 2 until December. Can I get the wirefly price?

What can't an iPhone do that an Android phone can do? Not being a wise guy, I'm genuinely curious. I have a Droid X and have never used an iPhone.
