Vernon Davis-TE-49ers Oct. 5 - 6:09 pm et

Vernon Davis appears to have a "decent chance" at returning after the 49ers' Week 6 bye, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Davis, who is out for this week with a sprained knee, was walking well during practice Friday, though he didn't take part in the workout. Delanie Walker is currently starting in Davis' place and had just one reception in Week 4.

So, how many of you have dropped him ? I've kept him thus far and am willing to give him 2 games after he comes back. It's been tempting to drop him though a few occasions.

Held on to him here as well. Swung a deal to get Crumpler (Selvin Young to the Travis Henry owner) last week to sure up the TE spot just in case.

We're on exactly the same page.
 me too. I targeted this guy in almost every league. Im giving him a couple of weeks to show me something, but Im running out of patience in my redrafts

He's worthless in a re-draft league unless you feel like wasting a bench spot on him. In my PPR leagues he hasn't even eclipsed the 20 point mark yet (8 cathces / 83 yards). What makes you think Trent Dilfer will help his numbers out?

I acquired him in a multi person trade but could not afford to pick up another TE since Pitt was on bye, so I traded him and Betts to the Portis owner for Heap

Ummmmm he's been hurt for the past 3 weeks????

I would love to drop him and pick up a gates or even a Witten type option but I am scraping the bottom of the barrel and Donld Lee's production is barely better than Davis's even without him playing.

Monster when he comes back.....

Ok maybe not a monster, but will be featured when he comes back and put up solid #s

The dude's been promising to be a 'monster' sisnce he came into the league.

He started this year as a non-factor. What makes anyone think that he'll be any better coming off an injury with a backup QB?

He wasnt even that good in college...maybe you guys have heard of the term "workout warrior" (see akili smith) VD doesn't know how to play the game, has gotten hurt two years in a row, and talks big but does not back it up...if the NFL was based strictly on numbers VD would be the hands down MVP...his qb situation and vanilla offense arent much of a help either

We'll see, i managed to snag him from the owner in trade for jeff king when delhomme was healthy. I have Winslow for my starter, Davis is the bye week filler and a trade market guy after

I don't know, I had heard he was real good in his last college year before the draft, pulled this off the net in reference to his 2005 season:In 2005, Davis was a Consensus All-American and All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection. He became the first Maryland player since center Bob Pellegrini in 1955 to earn first-team All-American honors from the Associated Press. He was only the eleventh overall All-American first-team pick in school annals. He was a finalist for the Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end. He started every game, leading the team with 51 receptions and the conference with 871 receiving yards (17.1 avg). His six touchdown catches rank tenth on the school’s season-record list. His 51 receptions also rank tenth on the Terps’ annual record chart while his 871 yards rank fifth. He was graded 82.5% for blocking consistency as he registered 67 knockdowns, including 18 blocks down field and had eight touchdown-resulting blocks.

Davis was heavily involved with working out in college. He set school strength records (in spring of 2005) for a tight end in the bench press (465 pounds), power-clean (355 pounds), index (797 pounds) and squat (685 pounds). He finished his college career with 1371 yards on 83 receptions for a gaudy 16.5 yards per catch, the best average of any first round tight end ever and more yards than other previous high first round tight ends Tony Gonzalez, Jeremy Shockey, Kyle Brady and Kellen Winslow II.

Peace, Nitty

I am in a tough situation now. Been holding onto VD all season, have Heath Miller as my other TE. Both are on a bye this week. Do I drop VD and keep Miller? Or should I roll the dice and hope he does come back in a week and drop Heath and pickup some turd off waivers? No idea yet what I am going to do.

I'd think at this point you'd have to keep. You held him so long for reason. You should go the scrub route. Check out Scheffler from Denver. He may be on your wire.

I own VD too, and hoping comes back strong after the bye. SF does not go down field much, and I think need a good, strong, quick, under-neath, middle of the field type guy. I have him and Desmond. Desmond is on bye soon, so I hope VD is ready soon.

Why I think he will be featured? Its getting to desperation time for this Niner offense. They have to realize that division is there for the taking, if they want it. They are playing solid D, they know have Gore but he needs some kind of passing game to get going. They will take the bye week to realize they HAVE TO get the passing game going somehow. Who are they going to look to? Darrell Jackson? Arnaz Battle? Ashley Lelie? Doubt it

Vernon Davis is a bust. It happened.
I don't think you can say bust yet....he has been injured. I think Dilfer will look to him more than Smith did. After he plays 4 more weeks we will se where his stats are at...you can then call him a bust if he has done nothing.

What choice is there at this point in the season? No WW wonders out there that I can see.

Davis reminds me of Winslow without heart.

You are making quite an assumption that he can play 4 games. This is what happens with steroids people. The muscles are too strong for the tendons and people get injured more often.

He was looking good in the Pitt game before he got hurt. And that play he got injured on was definitely a catch.
So he would have made a catch and that proves he's not a bust? I dropped him when he got hurt. He's been languishing on the WW since.
Yea, thats what Im saying. That one catch wouldve proven that he isnt a bust. No, Im saying that his 4 for 56 through 3 qtrs wouldve turned into 5 for 80 or something like that. Was just saying he was looking much better and like a much bigger part of the offense in the game he got hurt. Also think he got an endzone target or two.

Think its too early to call Davis a bust...he has only played 3 games...and in one of those games A Smith only threw the ball 17 times. Before he got hurt in the Pits game he was finally getting targets. If you have held on to Davis this long, might as well wait and see what happens after the bye week. Alex Smith might return too....you can always hope since Davis and Smith have both been rehabbing they are doing it together and maybe they have build up a friendship....and if Smith is trying to pass the ball in rehab, maybe its to Davis who also rehabbing. So when Smith if he comes back when he only throws the ball 17 times in a game, maybe half of the targets will be to Davis.
