Vernon Davis (1 Viewer)

I like how Singletary has handled VD.

Not good to hear he is still have issues catching the ball. Still I do think he will get more targets. Especialy if the defense has to start paying more attention to the WR.

But probably the most important thing here is the Oline. IF they can pass pro reliably without VD that will free the coaches up to send VD down field more. The QBs getting some continuity now may help the Oline to finaly gel.
Really, why not just go to the doctor?
Everyone will try to catch some VD on the waiver wire this week. Next week he's going to penetrate the Rams defense.

Vernon Davis leads the 49ers with 23 targets on the season.

That ties him for 4th among TEs with D. Clark, J Witten, O Daniels, and A Gates

Early returns are looking good so far, but I want to see how the rest of this season plays out.

man he is turning into a beast. Seems open 20 yards down every damn play! Started Cribbs over him at flex today! With TonyG at TE. He's a most start every week, even in leagues not requiring TEs...

So who else benched him for Tony G?

If only I'd won one more vote for the flex option this year, I'd be crushing.

Seriously, if the guy didn't run a 4.38 at the Combine, would these threads exist? And didn't we have these threads last year? "Martz never had a TE like Davis!!!"---I think that's how it went.

Bad passing game, unsettled QB situation, bad hands, what's the upside here? Haven't we heard nice things in the spring and summer about this guy every year?

These threads should be about JerMichael Finley or Shawn Nelson.
Lordy. :lmao:

Vernon is finally being used in the offense as a receiver.

I think this shows that Martz didn't know how to adjust his offensive philosophy, he never used a TE so it was irrelevant who he had at TE, he didn't know how to use one as a receiver.

Perfect reason why change in coaching situation needs to be evaluated, and one should never completely write a player off with out performing as unbiased of an evaluation as they possibly can.

Nice job Faust!

Thanks for this thread and your unbiased contributions, despite those who questioned the merits of starting this thread to begin with. Even if Davis hadn't performed to this level, it would have been a worthy thread IMO, but you've certainly been vindicated!

Lesson: Never bury a player who hasn't had the opportunity to produce. Martz didnt utilize the guy at all. the new OC is, and Vernon is producing at an extremely high level. Is he a perfect TE, one that can run all the routes? probably not, but this OC knows how to use VD -- vertical passing game.

Any Witten/Davis owners who are not sure what to do next week? Actually, byes make it no-brainer for me to start both next week, but soon this will be an issue for me. Well, sort of ... Davis over Witten seems like an easy call.

LOL - YES! I'm getting real tired of watching those points wasting away on my bench while Romo decides he wants to play with new toys and Witten averages ~5-6pts. a week (non-PPR). Only problem is I'm still going to come up with new reasons to keep starting Witten like, 'Austin's emergence will only open things up more for Witten now!' or 'You know Witten's gonna finish top 3 when all is said and done, so just imagine the point explosions that he's due for in the future!'

I'm really surprised this guy hasn't gotten more love this year.

He's currently TE3 in my dynasty league and he was considered a low tier #2 TE to start the season. And he's been very consistant as far as TE's go. He's scored a TD in 6/11 games, had over 50 yards in 6/11 games and had 5 or more catches in 7/11 games. He'a had two multi-TD games as well.

He's even with Gates & Daniels in PPG and ahead of the likes of Gonzalez & Witten. Only Dallas Clark is really having a substantially better year at the position.

I was one of the guys who had written him off completely in the pre-season. This season has really made me re-think my approach to pre-season analysis due to some guys like Davis. I've gotten a couple of guys right, but I've really whiffed on a few and VD was one of those.
