Veteren WRs to trade for, during your Dyno playoff run. (1 Viewer)

Edelman, Julian NEP WR -

if you are serious about winning, and he is rostered by a rebuilding, non playoff team, pay what it takes.  wr1 lock, this is the move to make, now.  he is about to retire, so the price may be less than expected.

if you are in need of a wr 3/4 starter, this guys are old, producing, and should be cheap.

Jeffery, Alshon PHI WR - phi is a mess but still in playoff hunt.  just had a big game.

Fitzgerald, Larry ARI WR - outplayed by kirk this year, but still getting his targets.

Sanders, Emmanuel SFO WR - quieted down but still sf's wr1ish.

Cobb, Randall DAL WR - been dal's wr lately.

this should prolly have been discussed earlier because of trade dedlines, but here it is.

Not to derail the thread, but I would question this popular notion that 'veterans' are worth trading for to help you win a championship in dynasty leagues. There seems to be this sentiment that "old" = "reliable points" when the reality of H2H is that there's a lot of luck involved week to week and nothing is guaranteed.

All of the players you've listed are viable and may have a couple of good weeks coming up, but they are also pretty volatile (and this is not even considering injury which can always happen). If they put up a 2-35 in week 14 (which is very possible) and you don't win, and you traded any sort of decent future capital for them, then you've wasted that capital because they won't have any (or much) value moving forward. Even if they have a really good week, are they really going to be the difference between your team winning and losing? If they are, then I guess it was worth it but I'd suggest they probably aren't.

The other thing is, if a team is truly a strong contender and on the verge of a championship, why would a fringe WR3 type be the difference between winning a championship or not? Unless you've been killed by injuries, I'd assume you'd have equal or better options, or reasonable depth. Even if not, why not try to trade for an asset that is a bit younger and will still maintain some value even if they bust in these playoff weeks? That way you might not be trading for a depreciating asset if you miss out on the championship. There are younger WR3 types who might still get you 10ppg or so in any given matchup. If you're going to give up a first round pick, or a second, or a fringe young asset, I just don't see any reason to go all in on one of these veterans that could just as easily bust and waste your draft capital.

the reason to go after veterans on losing ff squads, is that they can be had cheaper and rebuilds are looking for future picks.

If they are genuinely cheap then that's fine. But generally the discussion at this time of year seems to be along the lines of trading a late first (assuming a contender) or second for these types of players. Maybe it's just the way I play dynasty, but it just doesn't seem like good value to me, and you're more likely to regret not having those picks at draft time (especially in this class).

I guess my view more generally is that trading away all your draft capital as a 'contender' for short term depreciating assets isn't good strategy and is more likely to end in disappointment than push you over the top for a championship. Sure it can work out, but given the unpredictability of week to week fantasy, I tend to think the impact of these veteran players on your championship chances is vastly overstated.

in my book, in dynasty, winning now is more important than next years team.

Of course. I just question the extent to which these types of moves impact on chances of winning. Not a criticism of you or this thread, but a more general question abut dynasty strategy.
