Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

I started ME2 last week, but only had the chance to get through the comic book intro (sloppy setup into that, BTW... typical EA) and a couple checkpoints. The comic book was a great device for folks like me. This should be standard for all sequel games going forward. Anyways, I chose the soldier class because I figured I like shooting although the shooting mechanics don't feel as tight to me as traditional shooters (I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but still). Should I have gone with a different class?
Honestly, yes. Playing the game as a soldier basically turns it into just another third-person shooter. It's more fun playing as a different class -- any other class -- IMO.

Hmmmm, thanks. I think I might just start over as I'm only 40 minutes in.

Playing through Mass Effect 2, been an outstanding game for the most part but one thing that really sucks:

I don't like how some of the main missions happen automatically as soon as you touch the galaxy map, doesn't give you time to save beforehand. I just did the suicide mission and I wasn't able to save beforehand. Now 2 of my squad members are dead, which ####### sucks.

I used to really be into baseball games and would like to start playing again. Does anyone have experience with the MLB 2k?? series (I haven't looked through this thread)? I have 360 so I know there aren't many baseball games.Looking to get 2k12 when it is released in March. Any thoughts?
I have never been impressed with the 2k version of baseball. I know you said you were on Xbox but if you are serious into getting back into a baseball game get a Ps3 and pick up MLB the show. In my opinion, it is the most well done and complete sports game every year.

XBox 360: Crysis 2

First things first, I have played video games since they first came out. Starting with Pong and all Atari games that started all of this. I have seen over the years how video games have evolved into a almost real experience. This game does that and more for you, is simply intense from the start to finish. You feel like you are superman at times, which makes this game so different from the rest of the fps games out there. Yeah the AI is stupid at times but what game out there isn't. Call of Duty throws at you a million enemies and if you got plenty of ammo you kill them all. What's so real about that? The truth is a game should be played for entertainment and Crysis 2 will give you that for about 11 hrs on story mode and for as long as you can handle in online multi-player. This game is a must have for the true gamers out there, and for all of you that just want to have a blast being unstoppable. I have nothing against Call of Duty in fact I love it. I just hate kids that play only one game for hrs and hrs and think that if the game doesn't feel the same it sucks. Not all games are created equal and thank God for that.

Didn't you already post this exact same review? I feel like I read this a month ago.

Well for everyone else...
DO NOT GOTO THE OMEGA RELAY TILL YOU'RE READY!! Make sure you do all the side missions if you don't want people to die. Also, do the side missions before you open the Omega relay or your captured crew is going to die a horrible, horrible death.
They pretty much tell you to really think about it before you go.

They did, so I checked online and it said if I didn't go there immediately Dr. Chakwas, Yeoman Chambers, and others would die. So as far as I can tell, people are gonna die no matter what unless you finish all the missions before starting that one.

Yes. You needed to do all the side missions before opening the relay. It allows all your crew to give you full loyalty thus they won't die in the Reaper "homeworld." Plus you needed to make sure the ship had all the upgrades or else it is a suicide mission. Doing side missions once its unlocked will cause members of the crew to die once you find them. All around, it pretty much means do all missions before the main ones to save everybody. You can save everyone. I did it first play through without a guide just because I kept doing the side stuff first.

actually you really need to do all the side missions before investigating the dead reaper ship. After that, you only have time to do one side mission before heading directly to the omega relay. Otherwise, some of your crew will get greased.

I have NBA 2k12 for PS3 and while the graphics and game is cool, it's very frustrating to have the game freeze up on multiple occasions. I've had to delete files three times now because either the game freezes up at start up or even during the middle of a game. Very irritating. Hopefully, the baseball 2k version isn't like that.

Had the same thoughts.

After reading the various reviews around, it would seem most would agree with this, but unfortunately a PS3 isn't in the cards at this point in time.

Had a bunch of friends over yesterday. After the NFL games were over we fired up my Wii and played what was probably the most entertaining 12 inning game of RBI baseball in my life, followed by a gaggle of old games like Tecmo Super Bowl, Ring King, Pro Wrestling, Ice Hockey, Baseball Stars and a run through Contra - co-op style including the old Konami code getting used. that's how us 34-42 year olds roooollll !!!!
How do you play Baseball Stars on the Wii? Is it finally on the Wii marketplace, or do you have a hacked version?

Yeah this version of MAdden, for the most part, sucks. The graphics are incredible but I guess you expect that. The flow of the game seems better to me as does the movements of the players and I do like the coordinator option for play calling - adds a bit more forced realism instead of playing the same plays over and over again which is too easy to do.

But the difficulty levels are just ridiculous. On anything higher than rookie, the LB's are superheroes for the CPU and the passing game is almost non existent. Even forcing 3 step drop quick throws is really impossible for all but the most professional of gamers, something I am not. And playing on rookie with the sliding scales up, or on pro with the sliding scales down doesn't make the game any more realistic in that sense. The franchise menu and options are more clunky than the previous versions that seemed a lot more intuitive.

It's fun to play with but I think Iv'e gotten to the point where madden is just not that worth it to me as something I have to have.

What are the good baseball games for XBox?

Mass Effect 3 in 18 days. The demo is huge. 1.76gb. Most PS2 games aren't even that big. Very fun. I like the polish they've put on the controls.

Gotta bust out 2 at least to make a run through that to get back in the mindset.

Has anyone played Twisted Metal? I have fond memories of the old versions.
I tried the demo and really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't get into it. A big part of the issue was the controls, which IMO have a steep learning curve no matter what layout you select. Basically the game has to figure out a way to shoe-horn driving controls AND shooting controls into a dualshock, and any solution to that problem is going to involve some fairly complicated control-mapping. It seemed like a fun game, but not enough for me to stick with it.It looked and ran great, by the way. Just not my cup of tea.

Been playing the ever-living crap out of the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer demo with a couple friends. I'm so addicted to leveling up my char and unlocking new stuff. So far the Sentinel and Adept classes appear to be the most fun. Sentinel is the ultimate Tank class and Adept is great for just spamming your bio powers.

If you do check it out, I recommend using a class based more on bio powers and using only a Heavy Pistol as your primary weapon, with no secondary. Having the decreased weight allows you to not only regenerate health/shields faster, but also regenerate your powers faster as well. Spam bio attacks fer dayz.

I'm in a 4 person season with 3 of my buddies. We all play in the same division. We all did a fantasy draft so we have a lot of rookies. Right now it's week 12 and Cam Newton, my QB has 45 TD's, 35 int's. We play on all Madden. The amount of cheating the CPU does to bat down and intercept passes is redonkulous. I'm 11-1 btw :bowtie:

Sounds painful.

Wow, sounds like there is a lot more room for customization this time out. Oddly, I've read almost nothing about this game and I'm probably the world's biggest fan of the series.

Yup. There's plenty of cool stuff, and plenty of silliness. I like that they moved away from the linearity of FFXIII, but the mechanics aren't as fully developed as I'd hoped. Still fun if you liked the battle system the first time around.

Re: The ShowI can't hit worth a lick in this game
I haven't had it in a few years but I could never do it on the harder modes either
M'aiq plays in franchise mode but only pitches in games. He likes to control his lineups and rosters, but hitting is just too hard for M'aiq as well. Pitching is lots of fun though. M'aiq suddenly realizes he plays his baseball games like his bedroom games.

Loved both mass effect games. Downloaded demo but havent played it. Do you get to use your character fir demo or the stock sheppard?
You can create a character in the demo, but I didn't see any way to import yours from previous games.
No the demo doesn't let you use your character. You can loosely recreate it by picking a class and choosing which character from ME1 dies. The demo is massive as it is though. Don't think they wanted to add the import ability also.

I think i lost Gerris on my first play through but then replayed the final mission (or the whole game or another save point, I forget) and had all survive. I hope I remember which save is which.

I think they only let you choose between Ashley and Kaiden since that was the pivitol scene of who would die in the first 1.

I haven't messed with the multiplayer yet, but the ME3 demo looked like basically more of the same from ME2. Which is good, since ME2 was fun and there's no need to fix what wasn't broken. The cutscenes were really choppy, but I assume that's going to be fixed in the retail release.

 Enjoyed the FFXIII but it was rather dull until stage 13(?) or so when everything opened up. How was it for length?

A fair observation, but sadly I'm pretty sure I'm in the top 1% of gamers in terms of number of play throughs for the first two games :bag:

Loving Deux Ex:HR. Original game was outstanding. Liking what I see this time around, as well. It got me to stop playing Skyrim.

It's got great atmosphere and a cool* storyline. I liked it*Spoiler
The story as a whole felt a little incomplete and disjointed to me. As if they rushed it to completion somehow. I felt like the characters were making reference to important plot points that I never encountered. Maybe I was just rushing through the game too quickly.
