Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (9 Viewers)

I saw this on Major Nelson's blog and literally :lmao: You can find new copies of most of these games cheaper at most retail stores. These games don't need a one-week discount. This needs to be their new price point. If this was Microsoft's attempt to strike back against PSN+'s "free" game lineup, then they failed miserably.
I read this criticism earlier on Joystiq but have not found it to be the case. Granted I didn't check every single title...

A retailer near me has each of these games at $10 new max, and all but GRAW in the buy 2 for $7 area of the used games section.

Okay. But $10 is twice as much as $5, right? And I'd rather not have to bend over backwards finding a 2/$7 deal to save $1.50 a game.

My point is that nearly every retailer has had these games marked down below $20 for over a year now. This deal is pointless and should be a permanent markdown. But of course everyone acts like Microsoft is doing some real favor for you for dropping it for a week? Besides, these aren't exactly games that you bend over backwards to find at any price, anyway. Here is the Metacritic scores for each game if everyone is curious:

Bionic Commando - 70

Blazing Angels - 66

Bolt - 57

Bomberman Act: Zero - 34

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - 62

Conan - 69

Dark Void - 59

FaceBreaker - 54

Kameo - 79

Meet the Robinsons - 65

Open Season - 59

Perfect Dark Zero - 81 (Really?)

Prince of Persia - 81

Rockstar Table Tennis - 81

SEGA Superstars Tennis - 67

Surf's Up - 61

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter - 90

Tornado Outbreak - 62

Virtua Tennis 2009 - 70

Viva Pinata Party Animals - 56

Surprised that anyone liked Perfect Dark Zero. It's considered by many to be the worst FPS on the 360.

I'm not trying to be a richard, but I don't think you have a point. Where is "everyone" acting like MSFT is doing us a favor? It's a sale, right? And $5 is 1/4 the cost of $20.

Heck, I have like 25,000 MS points that I got for free when my account got hacked and I locked it down before it could be affected, so I might just jump on one of those deals just because I have nothing else to spend them on.

You said yourself, people on Joystiq are saying the same thing I am. They are also saying the same thing on Major Nelson's blog, Kotaku, and pretty much every other video game blog too. Cheapassgamer -- a gaming website designed to find video game deals -- laughs at this "sale" ... that says something. And if we don't have a point, then we must be wrong, and it's just as sale. A sale that's considered a clearance everywhere else you look.If these games look interesting to you, buy them. Yeah, you can buy it instantly without leaving the house and without physical media. That's a plus and I don't deny that. But the truth is that most of XBox's Games on Demand titles are much more expensive than their physical counterpart.

I still wish you could gift MS points. I don't know any other time I'd ever be jealous of someone else getting their account hacked. :P

Just downloaded the client for The Secret World MMO from Funcom/EA.

Last beta weekend is this fri-sun.

I didnt care for Funcoms mmo style in Conan. Primarily because of he PvP issues. But who knows.

Dont think this will have open PvP at the onset, but I like supporting all MMO producers.

Disappointed in deus ex. Wasn't necessarily bad but pretty much defines mediocre. Can't say I would recommend it even to fans of the RPG shooter genre.

Seems like nothing good is out right now.

Playing NCAA 2011 with my 8 year old.

Hey NCAA nerds. My xbox live is up and I'm in no rush to renew it right now.

Is NCAA Online dynasty free for PS3 or do you need to be a Plus member?

TIA

usually for PS3 online access is free. Plus is for extra Sony market features such as PS online magazines, discounts on games, and free games.

It's dead until September IMO. Will replay some old games and pick up used copies of others to tide me over I guess. This happens every year, be nice if the companies would space out the releases more as there's always a flood in Autumn:9/18/12 - Borderlands 210/02/12 - Resident Evil 610/30/12 - Assassin's Creed 311/6/12 - Halo 411/13/12 - BlOps 2

Pretty good review for Spec Ops: The Line (8.0 on IGN). It's basically a retelling of Heart of Darkness / Apocalypse Now set in a sandstorm-ridden modern day Dubai.

LA Noire $5 on steam right now.
The summer sale is almost upon us! :excited: Gotta be about a week or two away now. Looking forward to getting a few games for my 12-yr old son - Trine, Trine 2, Orcs Must Die, etc. It is fun sharing these lower cost games with him and seeing how much he loves them. I gave him my gift copy of Torchlight and he is loving that right now.

FYI I got my rig all set up last night... booted up first try. :bowtie:I'm not used to having a pc this fast.

Very interesting. I imagine it is on Steam? Will have to take a look.ETA yeah, $50 on Steam. For 6 hours of SP campaign, that is way too steep. Will have to wait until it is in the $15-20 range. Given it is a small title, I would say that will be 2-3 months.

Is "Orcs Must Die" any good? I got a free copy. Haven't even installed it yet. Not my type of game by the looks of it, but it was free, and that means I MUST try it. I like free.

Assassin's Creed 3's kill animations look awesome. But I wonder if the redcoats will be more aggressive on higher difficuly levels. The gameplay footage shows them taking turns attacking. I hope they have a better AI that what they've shown.

It took about a level or 2 but I really like it.

:shrug:Assassin's Creed 2 was the the same way. Enemies helpfully take turns attacking you, so you can mostly just counter-kill them one by one. And there were no difficulty levels. It was an extremely easy game. Still entertaining though.

Brotherhood and Revelations improved on the enemy AI a little bit. But they added so many different ways to take out enemies, that countering was even easier, so the game never got harder. But the games are still awesome. At least with the many different ways to kill now, it doesn't really get old like it did in the first game.

You can get Just Cause 2 via GamerGate for $3.74 today and activate it on Steam. Just did this. Why? Because it was only $3.74, that's why! :bag:

I never played any of the earlier titles, but supposedly crowds would react to your presence, so stealth was important. In 3, it looks like you can jump around buildings and trees in plain sight without anyone looking at you all crazy. It still looks great though, I want to try it out after Arkham City.

Word is that Steam's Summer Sale will start tomorrow. No official word on that. Just going by rumor. But Amazon is having a summer sale of their own. That can be found here.

Thank you. I bought the Civ IV complete & Civ V bundle for $12.

Been hankerin to play a Civ game for years.

Do you guys have a recommendation for an RPG, similar to Dragon Age, for PS3? I played through Skyrim for a long time, and I don't want to spend a lot of money on anything because it's basically just a weekend in the summer game for me until I get too busy at school again.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age.

Reckoning: Kingdom of Amular...a couple of my buddies play and LOVE it. Of course, they company kind went under, but they came out with some DLC for it too. Take a look at it and see if it's your cup of tea.

Interesting. Nothing showing yet but then again, it would launch around noon or so PST.

Dang, Max Payne 3 for $30 and Spec Ops:The Line for $25. Good prices there with Amazon and both should be unlockable on Steam.

Just got back into PC gaming and have only a few hours left before finishing Mass Effect 3. My next adventure is still up for debate. Currently mulling over Fallout 3, Bioshock, Borderlands, or the original Deus Ex. :nerd:

Definitely sad that the sale won't be for a while. I am on vacation with the family from the 11th to 18th and will have limited to no computer access. :kicksrock:

What's funny is Michael Pachter and other video game gurus are claiming that Steam sales are killing the industry because of reasons like this: because many consumers will wait for the Steam sales to buy games. EA says that won't do a Steam like sale because they are also on the bandwagon that it's hurting them. And I disagree. If I really want a game and it's going to be good, I'm going to pay full price and buy it day one. I use the Steam sales to buy games that I would probably not buy without the sales. In some of those cases, I find that a game is much better than expected and I'll be anticipating the next game in the series, which WILL be purchased at or around launch.

Oh, and you can log into your Steam account from any computer or smart phone to make a purchase to your account. You don't have to install it where it was purchased. You can wait til you get home to install it and you got the deal. I haven't done this, but it's the impression that I've always been under. Please let me know if I'm wrong. Not that you should be worrying about video game deals when you're on vacation with your family.
