Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (6 Viewers)

I just purchased up Kingdoms of Amular. Anyone played that?
Been playing it on xbox. Its a very ambitious 1st release and no wonder the company went under. I have almost 90 hours into the game and still have about half the map to explore( I do alot of side quests). Its very similar play wise to Skyrim, but the leveling up is quite different. You can reset your level up skill allotments at a fateweaver it just cost gold so dont worry about messing up your build. Its a fun RPG, with some nice writing and interesting story lines.
I love this so far! Only a few hours into it but starting to get the hang of the fighting (I am using hard mode). I just picked up my first complete set of armor that gives a ton of bonus's. is there any one screen which summarizes the combined benefits? I looked in the effects screen but that appears to only be current diseases, potions buffs and temple type blessings info.
The fighting reminds me of Tales of Vesperia, but with more options. The only way to see your current benefits is use the start button and I think its called status. Your set bonuses only show up on the armor in the armor screen I believe. The bonus wont be greyed out it should be white if I recall properly. There is alot of info in the start button menu, but sometimes its hard to find exactly what you need.
ok thanks! I am collecting quests like crazy :)Two more questions1) When running around, should I always go into a cave/ruin etc if it is not yet tied to a quest?2) How do I determine if a quest is appropriate for my current level character?

1) I always do but sometimes you have to go back for a quest you didnt have yet. once they are cleared they dont respawn that I have noticed so if you do get a quest in there its just usually a boss and a few friends.

2)no way to really tell until you meet a mob any mob with a red not orange, yellow or grey name is a quick death. I have found you cant really get ahead of the quests if you do alot of side quests. Early on its easier to have it happen due to your low level and not really knowing your way around.

fast traveling back to town will save you tons of time if you dont know about it. you can fast travel anywhere you have found and it leaves and icon on your main map. click the icon on your map and it will ask if you want to fast travel there.

BTW, I bought Castle Crashers when it was 50% off a couple of weeks ago. It's normally ~$16 and I have been waiting a long time for it to go on sale and I really wish I had just broke the lock off the wallet a long time ago. Honestly, it is one of the most fun and amusing games I have ever played. My girls and got in on the action and last Saturday we spent about 6 hours straight all dying and laughing.

Can't recommend it enough.

Playing mostly the Binding of Isaac and FTL until the winter steam sale (which is the Dec 20th).

My wallet can't handle what's coming.

 Thanks. Yes I have been using fast travel. I will have to keep my eyes on the name color, I did not notice the color before. I think there is one trophy related to killing someone 4 levels higher than you but I am not sure. I will worry about trophy's after 150 or so hours :)

How long is Arkham City? If I play through it once will I ever want to pick it up again?
There is so much to do. Tons of side quests as well. I did finish the main story but you can play a new game call "New game plus" where you keep all your skills, weapons, gadgets etc.I am going to do a second play through for sure and eventually get the Nightwing/Robin DLC.Both Batman games are top notch.

Mass Effect plays very differently Han the two sequels. More RPG and less shooter. But it is fun never the less. Lots of planetary exploration too.
Its the best GAME of the 3 to me. ME2 was better combat and added more areas. ME3 had great production value and musical score. ME1 will always be my favorite of the series though.

Played through once. Then did Harley's DLC. Haven't played it since. I was probably about 40-45% complete on total game even though I beat the main story. No interest in going back right now.

got Max Payne 3 for 15 bucks on Black Friday, is it worth the playthrough? havent started it yet
I also grabbed it for $15 then and have enjoyed it. I loved mp and mp2 forever. Great trip down memory lane. Still waiting for some Lords and Ladies. . .

Estimated download was 54 minutes. I started it, went to the grocery store, came back and checked it about 1 hour and 45 minutes after starting. It had downloaded and was about 75% through the install. So all told, my guess is the whole process took maybe two hours.

Appreciate the PM responses on PSN NR. Just put this on my Christmas list to the wife today. So I should be on my way to the Kingdom come the end of December. Unless I'm to wrapped up in ME?

Cool! I am looking forward to the whole ME trilogy myself. I am going to tackle that I think after Kingdoms but I may not play all three back to back. Being a guy who has to complete everything in a game I have a feeling I am going to be playing Kingdoms for a long long time. Game appears to be even bigger than Skyrim from a total game aspect (not just main story).

IGN's official nominees for 2012 Game of the Year are...

Mass Effect 3

Guild Wars 2

The Unfinished Swan

Borderlands 2

Hotline Miami

FTL

Halo 4

The Walking Dead: The Game

Journey

Dishonored

Oof. My one Skyrim character took like 157 hours, and I didn't even do the Assassins Guild (with my assassin). It was enough that I didn't even start a second character. And this may actually be longer??And like you, I don't know that I'll go all three ME back to back. I know I'll want to play Last of Us once it comes out, which will be long before I'd be able to get through all three ME titles.

I am early into it but it seems massive. I went into one ruin yesterday that went on for ever it seemed. An earlier poster mentioned that he was 90 hours into game and mentioned he still had half the map untouched. Although I am worried about the level cap. I seem to lose interest when I can no longer build my character.

I am over 115 hours into Kingdoms now and I am lv 38 someone mentioned the cap was lv 40 so I have about a 1.5 lvs to the cap. At this point even if I max my character I will have to see how this story unfolds. I have moved onto the other half of the map and it has quests scattered everywhere just like the beginning.

Skyrim I think I had about 120 hours for 100% completion

I have 225+ hours in my first (and so far only) character on Skyrim (a Destruction High Elf named Jorel). I am at the Dark Brotherhood questline but have not yet started it as I needed a long break from Skyrim (still do) but once I go back to it I will finish up that questline and finish off the main story (still have not done that). The game is truly amazing.

I DL ME 1 last night from PSN and am going to start it Friday night. I am really looking forward to playing through all three from the begining! I only had played ME2 and ME3 which were both awesome. I know ME is more RPG and that is fine with me as I love RPG's and Mass Effect is my all time favorite series thus far (overtaking Metal Gear) in console gaming.

Far Cry 3 looks amazing. But I have so many games in my que...I will wait for the pre-owned shelf price of 20 bucks.

Non sports games being played right now:

Hitman Absolution

XCOM - Enemy Unknown

Mass Effect

Borderlands 2

In the que:

Dishonored

Uncharted 3

Red Dead Redemption

ME 2 (2nd playthrough)

ME3 (2nd playthrough)

Lego Lord of the Rings (with my son)

Too many games as usual

My son is playing Far Cry 3 as we speak. I saw last night when I was downloading ME that he was on it. I have ME2 and ME3 but haven't played either. I held off just like I did when I got Bioshock 2 and Dead Space 2. In both cases, I decided I wanted to play from the beginning and was very glad I did. I'm pretty sure I'll be even moreso with the ME series.

I'm playing XCOM exclusively for now. I had put Borderlands 2 aside on my second run through when I got hold of XCOM. However, as ME was only $15 and the PSN card was worth $20, I may go get the DLC for Borderlands 2 if it is $4.99 and do that Pirate Booty thing or whatever it is called. That might get me back in to that one a bit.

The only FUTURE game I am looking forward to is Last of Us. Nothing else is really catching my fancy.

When playing games, why do I take it so much more personally when Corvo (or any modern gen character) dies than I did when Mario died as punishment for my failure?

Good feedback, this might be in my Stocking this year...but never really played RPGs before.

Mass Effect is amazing.

But I knew it would be.

Playing 2 and 3 before the original I am so happy to have this now. The attachment to my new infiltrator Sheppard only 2 hours in is much stronger than the 65 hours I put in with 2 and 3.

And the game is just as Epic as the others.

The Mass Effect series is no doubt my all time favorite action, RPG shooter ever.

Yes it is, Todem. Yes it is.

I had thought my last playthrough would be...well...my last. That was just a month ago and I'm already jonesing to play it again.

When playing games, why do I take it so much more personally when Corvo (or any modern gen character) dies than I did when Mario died as punishment for my failure?
Because there's actually some phenomenal character development in some modern games. I remember that's why I felt shafted in the video game draft, a lot of the complex/interesting characters I chose got passed over for the likes of Ryu.

I'm not normally prone to spouting profanity but Dishonored has me sounding like Joe Pesci.

 Nevermind then. Is the penalty for dying in Dishonored particularly severe? The more severe the penalty for dying, the angrier I tend to get when I die in a video game.

You can save anywhere in this game (like Bioshock and Skyrim), so you can always just abuse the hell out of the feature to get through tricky areas. But yeah, if you get spotted you're going to have to fight a bunch of guys and will likely die.

Dark Souls 2 (or Demon Souls 3, however you look at it) was officially announced at the Video Awards tonight on Spike.

Good to see Walking Dead getting its just due. Game is incredible and really puts you in some ####ed up situations.

I didn't even know there was a walking dead game. I don't watch the show. Are amc and spike owned by the same company?

I grabbed Commander Sheppard in that draft....dude is my all time favorite video game character! I also grabbed Issac from Dead Space. Speaking of Dead Space.....DS3 next year!!!

The awards are pretty good. I disagree with NBA 2K13 over The Show 12. I still play NBA2K11 as that one is clearly the best in 2K's history.

I still have to play Dishonored, The Walking Dead and Far Cry 3 (which looks awesome) and finish Borderlands 2, Hitman Absolution and XCOM Enemy Unknown.

These aren't the IGN award winners. They are the Spike VGA winners. IGN won't announce their winners until 12/19.http://www.ign.com/wikis/best-of-2012

Anyone ever play Far Cry 2? Is it any good? I saw some videos for Far Cry 3 and they looked good, and I was at Gamestop yesterday and saw Far Cry 2 used for $6.29 so I bought it. It has an 8.8 on IGN, but I don't put a ton of stock in IGN ratings  .

NoSpike is owned by MTV Networks, which in turn is owned by ViacomAMC is owned by AMC Networks which used to be owned by Cablevision but was spun off a couple of years ago.

Pros:It still might be the best looking FPS Ive ever played.Very immersive presentation; grasping for doors, changing positions inside of cars, cockpit view when driving.Lots of vehicles and weapons to run around in.Open world.Cons:Due to the amazing environments, it's difficult to see enemies sometimes.Enemy encounters can be repetitive and frustrating at times. The huge world is dare I say it, too huge.Long load times. Having played Farcry 2 I'm really leery of buying Farcry 3, enough to where Ill wait for the inevitable $25 price tag after Christmas.

Damnit, now you have me thinking of doing another game draft!

What do you get when you buy the Walking Dead game? Do you only get one episode or more?

Are future episodes coming out or is it stopped at 5?

You get one episode at a time. 5 total episodes for season 1. The makers of the game also intend to package all 5 together for a retail release next week. A second season will be released as well.

Thought it was out and went to buy it tonight. Oops. Not hooked up to the net otherwise I could download it but having a disc is a plus. Could download it for iOS but not sure if it is the same game or not. Am looking into it. Would not mind it on iOS if it is the same game however it does take up many mb's. Still working on Lego Harry Potter 5-7. I remember playing Lego Star Wars and that game was boards after one another. Not much to do. Harry Potter is much deeper than the original Lego games. Thinking LOTR is similar in extensiveness. Need to work on Final Fantasy as well.

Been playing Civ5 Gods and Kings in my very little spare time. Definitely improves the game even if it feels a little bit bolted on. I did have to laugh on the game I'm playing now when I discovered that the Saudis had adopted Judaism. Seeing Mecca with a big star of David next to it had me chuckling.
