Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

Playing Dues Ex: Human Revolution. Enjoying the story-line. Only big complaint is the boss fights, and I recently found out that a different studio did the boss fights and Eidos had to apologize for them.

Putting the reasoning in spoiler, just in case someone wants to experience them on their own.

The boss fights are basically twitch action fights (at least the 2 I've done so far) and have no alternate ways of completing them, unlike most of the rest of the content. They are also unavoidable, although I don't have too much of a problem with that. I basically cheated on both, or at least I feel like I did. The first one I won because I crouched in a corner and the bad guy threw grenades at me that bounced back and killed himself. The second I found out that the stun gun freezes the boss and does some damage, and I had enough stun gun cartridges to only need a few bullets to finish her off. Both of those "solutions" came after many deaths trying to beat them the way it seemed "designed" to be beaten.

Got RE6 for Christmas; guess I'm ending my PS3 hiatus. Looking for other recoomendations for games.....I've always enjoyed the Uncharted, Bioshock, GOW and Resident Evil series. The last game I got was Fallout 3 and it was a bit overwhleming and too open world for me. Since I'm not really a 'gamer', I prefer more linear games. Looking at reviews, I thought I might try Red Dead Redemption or Far Cry 3, but would these be too challenging? Really just looking for a fun game that doesn't take a long time to pick up and I can do in 1-2 hour chunks.....
For you guys that played it, wouldn't Dishonered fit the bill here?
If you're looking for linear games, Red Dead Redemption isn't it. I stopped playing that one after about 3 hours because of how open it is.Dishonored is quite linear. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, but I'm in the minority.Of course, the Mass Effect games should be high on the list.Other titles I think would be enjoyable:Deus Ex: Human Revolution Batman: Arkham Asylum/CityHeavy RainPortal 1/2Crysis 2 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow inFamous 1/2God of WarKingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Thanks for the suggestions. Loved GOW, liked Batman, didn't love Infamous as much for some reason. Any of the Mass Effect games 'better' than the rest? I am really intrigued by Assassins Creed 3- that's not overly difficult? Heavy Rain also looked decent- almost bought it last trip to the store.

FYI, te Walking Dead part 1 is free right now until the 31st on Xbox if anyone wand to try it. And all borderlands content for 1&2 are on sale today.
I'm really loving this game. Hate that I didn't play it sooner, but love that I waited for all the episodes to already be out.
Same here, but I knew the release date of the all in one pack and got it for Christmas so it worked out.
I got an Xbox 360 a few months ago for the kids but have been looking for a game I could try out. Tell me about this Walking Dead game. And how is it free until the 31st? Download?

The game is an episodic game unless you buy the full game. It's only the first episode that's free on the 360 (each of the 4 other episodes are 400msp, or $5, each. You can download it here. I believe it's the "Full Game - The Walking Dead". Although it says "Full Game", I believe it's only episode one. If you aren't in after one episode, the game isn't for you, so it's a good way to tell if you like it before paying.

I apologize if everyone's dog tired with Mass Effect by now, but I just wanted to post that the soundtrack to the Extended Cut can be downloaded for free.
Not me. I'm still playing ME3 multiplayer almost daily. It's become easily my favorite online multiplayer game of all time.

Ign game of the year was journey? Am i the only person who doesnt buy PSN games?
I played the hell out of Rainbow Moon this summer, but I don't normally buy PSN games either. I should really open my wallet for this one, but I know it's very short which makes it a tough sell.

Like Andy said, Mass Effect is sort of one really long game. You can skip ME1 (I did), but since the whole trilogy is really cheap you might as well start from the beginning. Unlike Andy, I really liked Dishonored. The story is nothing special, but the gameplay is sensational. I got three completly enjoyable playthroughs out of this with more to come at some point when I get bored with other stuff.Heavy Rain is fine, but IMO it has zero replay value. It's worth a rental or a $20 purchase deeply discounted. This is a little like Walking Dead in that it's the sort of game that more people need to play and that I wish would be produced more, but just doesn't have the overall value of most other games.I haven't played AC3, but all the Assasins Creed games I've played have been overly-easy. For an action-adventure game, this franchise caters to a pretty casual audience.Somebody earlier mentioned Dead Space as one to pick up. I second that. This is a really great game that can be had dirt cheap. Dead Space 2 is also fanstastic and similarly cheap. This franchise is the new Resident Evil, along with the crappy co-op cash-in (Dead Space 3).

My local BB is out of stock; next closest in stock is 90 miles away. They won't ship this game either.

I've got a new copy of Assasins Creed 3 (PS3) for Christmas. Opened it, played for an hour and realized it's not really my thing. It's the GameStop Edition, 4 Single-Player missions. GameStop and Multiplayer codes haven't been redeemed.

Anyone looking to buy this game? Asking $50 delivered obo.

Its on sale for 40 brand new on amazon.

So I loved Skyrim, really liked Amalur and have about 2 hours into Witcher2. Witcher is at max a 30 maybe 40 hour game and I am very meh right now. I actually stopped playing it to play the Dragonborn DLC.
That sounds about perfect. I get bored easily with a game and I'm pretty sure I'd never complete something like a Skyrim.

That's a little disappointing. I have read such glowing reviews. The time doesn't matter to me so much. An occasional relatively fast game is cool. But I do want it to be good.

More than enough positive reviews make it seem like a chance worth taking.

Yeah the reviews I have read have all been pretty positive.

Someone mentioned that Fallout 3 was overboard as far as open world and I agree. It's why I put it on the shelf awhile back. That said, I just picked it back up again and am loving it.Just got ME3 today too so that will be on deck.
I wouldn't mind going back to Fallout 3 again someday. I wasted untold hours lost in the DC subways in that game and gave up probably only halfway thru the main storyline. I much prefered New Vegas which I invested a ton of hours in actually finishing.

We seem to be on the minority but FO New Vegas is in my top 5 all time. There are soooooooo many different avenues that no game is ever the same. My first play through I killed EVERYBODY I met, starting with the Doctor. Those Elvis dudes in Freetown? Yea wiped them out too along with an entire story line I never even saw. Best part about Vegas? No subways.

It's definitely worth playing through twice. According to Steam I spent 51 hours on it, and that was before they released the enhanced edition content.

Yeah the enhanced edition looks cool. I am trying to decide between this and jumping into the Assasins Creed pool. I am thinking Witcher may be a little more my speed but a lot of people have been telling me I need to try AC.

It was a good one, wouldn't mind playing that again someday too. I totally skipped nearly all of the Caesar/Legion missions because I was playing as a goodie goodie. There were some really fun moments too, I made sure to specifically save before I launched the rocket ship with the ghouls in it so I could make both choices just to see what would happen. The subways were murder in Fallout 3. If only I had known about the ghoul mask. :wall:

I loved all the Fallout games. I don't really remember the Subways being that big of a burden. Don't know that I could go back and do it all over though. I played them to death first run through.

On Special for 200 points for each of the other 4 episodes, so $10 total. I think the special runs out tonight but not 100% on that.

For you PC guys, Green Man Gaming has XCOM: Enemy Unknown for $17.50 after Coupon Code: "GMG30-DPLIM-DN831".
I'd be all over this but apparently most major banks regard that website as a gambling site and have it blacklisted. You can't even call and have it okayed at the individual account level as it gets blocked up stream of card authorization.

Don't know why I didn't know this, or if I did, why I forgot it, but I got all peeved off at EA again today when I realized they haven't made a Madden for PC since 2007 (2008 season.) Ah well, re-installing 2007 to have some football fun.

Finished Dues Ex: Human Evolution last night. Didn't really care for any of the 4 possible endings, all of them tended to lack any kind of nuance - and hence, they all seemed unrealistic (in keeping with the game story.)

I know nobody really cares about this since this game has been out forever, but Bioshock 2 ended up having a really memorable moment:

Toward the end of the game, you play as a little sister. Nobody attacks you so this is just for cinematography. Basically you move around through this world that looks like a museum with fresh flowers and fireplaces, but every once in while the facade slips and you realize that you're in a dark, violent warzone. Pretty cool sequence.
Still not worth a replay and a much weaker story than the first, but I'll hand it to the developers for not completely mailing it in. I think this was just a case of having a first installment that was destined to make the follow-up look bad by comparison. I'll be interested to see if Bioshock Infinite can overcome this hurdle.

I agree, very cool scene there.
It kinda puts the Little Sisters' actions into perspective. They're always talking about how cute and cuddly everything is in Bioshock 1 as well.

Loved that sequence for the perspective it added.I would highly recommend the Minerva's Den DLC. It's an entire additional campaign where you play as an early prototype Big Daddy. Well worth the money, especially if you can catch it on sale.

This is how I felt at first too. I thought "this game is really popular?" The beginning kind of sucked, combat not much better and it was a grind but it got better. I don't know how to explain it but I ended up really liking it. Probably the storyline. It definitely was not wide open, which made me cringe because I like wide open worlds. However, I remember the last 2 I played (RDR and FO3) and thought...well, I have limited time and don't want to spend another 80 hrs on a game right now so I adapted.

I haven't finished it but I found it to be refreshing that it wasn't wide open. It's really a story driven game and the story is excellent.

Thanks for the info, once I finish the Dragonborn DLC in Skyrim I will dive back in. I was planning on continuing regardless since this is how I was with Amalur initially and wound up really enjoying it.

Because of the 360 special I gave Walking Dead a try. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. The realism of it is very interesting. I am missing my combat shotgun a bit. The story is pretty decent. Although the "your choices influence the outcome" shtick has been done before. The comic graphics have also been done. The targeting system is lacking. So I am wrapping Episode 1 up and I am going to give Episode 2 a try before I go for anymore. Right now it's more novelty value than anything else for me. Episode 2 is going to have to hook me or I am out.

It's a point-and-click adventure, not action-adventure. There's a first-person shooter Walking Dead game coming out in 2013 that'll probably work better for you.

It's an entertaining story with good characters. Don't think of it as anything more and you'll have a blast.
