Not true. Steep learning curve but once you know what you're doing and what equipment to use its actually shockingly easy.

Very similar to many online fps for non shooter gamers in respect that it provides a big learning curve and then clicks. After that point it can be easy for both types of games but until then it may seen very tough.

I am enjoying my early hours in Diablo 3 so far. The port to the PS3 looks very nicely done.

The only thing that I miss is leveling. I tend to enjoy having to make a choice when I level up, whether it be a skill choice or an attribute choice or something that makes me feel like I am controlling the growth of my character.

When I level in Diablo, I don't appear to have any choices outside of maybe unlocking a new skill every so often that I could choose to use.

I agree, I am an extremely weak game player but even I was able to get through Dark Souls and not just in a "damn I got lucky that time" type of feeling but in a "damn my character is better and I am a better player now" type of feeling.

Very satisfying game in that respect.

I get the feeling it requires farming, as in you have to do it before you move on in places. That's the part I think I am missing. I try and move on when clearly I'm not ready to do so yet.

I disagree. However, I'm biased considering it's my favorite series after Metroid and Zelda. With another Portal game, that may surpass Half-Life in the third spot. Which will we get first? Half-Life 3 or Portal 3? <insert "Valve can't count to three" joke here>

I disagree. There were some limitations to DS1 but it was still highly playable. And the slow turning only happens while you are aiming and I think it may have been done on purpose to increase tension.

The PC controls in DS2 are incredibly fine tuned.

I was hesitant at first too, mostly because I thought it would be nothing more than a gore fest, but I couldn't have been more wrong. If you like good story driven games (ala Bioshock or ME3) then you will enjoy DS.

Haven't played FIFA since I think FIFA'10 on the Wii. Been thinking about getting a new one for the Xbox to play with my boys. We have a blast playing NBA2K the three of us on a team together. Is FIFA14 a huge step up from FIFA13, or should we save our money and get the older version?

So I downloaded Rainbow Six:Vegas because it was free. Controls are pretty confusing but the game play is kind of fun. I do like rappelling down the side of the building upside down and shooting people through windows. But the squad controls were really ticking me off. I think I'd like it better as a single player thing. I only want to worry about me. I love the lone wolf type approach. But I am going to try to get my head around the controls and see if I can't make it work. This is my first Clancy game I am hoping that once I get going the story is good.

So this weekend I finally finish the first real encounter with zombies (5 runners, one clicker) in the Downtown part of The Last of Us. It took me at least 75 tries. Good Lord I suck.

Love the game and ambiance. I figure there is about a 2% chance I have the ability to finish this, though.

So I played'm part of the Diablo 3 demo tonight. That game is sick. I'll hold off for the PS4 version but there is no way I'm not getting this.

After reading through a good bit of the guide, I have a feeling this game could break my record for most hours spent on a console game.

Diablo 3 was a huge let down. You'll beat it in a weekend and have zero interest in playing the same content at harder levels.

I don't consider beating a game playing the easiest level. For me beating a game is not only playing it at every level but also getting 100% trophy level.

I just recently played a game just like this on PC called Path of Exile and the repeatability did not bother me at all.

I'm playing it now on the 360, and really like it. It's a big game, with lots of options, and the classes play very differently. The constant influx of new gear and unlocking abilities keeps it very interesting.

Basically, it's exactly what you think it is. I'm surprised anyone is "let down" by it. AZ Ron, can you expand on this a bit? What were you expecting?

Blizzard makes pretty good games. Diablo II was fun and came out in 2000. When they announced that Diablo 3 was finally coming out after being developed for TEN YEARS I expected a lot more.

The world in Diablo III feels small and I didn't expect it to be as linier as it is. The professions seemed like a complete waste of time until Hell+ levels.

Also, I know that Diablo II was repeated content but I just expected Diablo III content so easy to run though after TEN YEARS.

It felt like they spent a solid two years on the game.

If you want to compare it to Skyrim then yes and no. They are completely different games. One is a open world do as you please rpg that can take years to beat. The other is a monster stomping loot driven rpg designed to be played many times at escalating difficulties. IMO they are both top of their classes for console and especially with Diablo III since there is almost nothing in the genre that functions properly. The functionality is flawless and has set the standard for games to come. It all depends if you like the style of game ala people comparing Call of Duty versus Gears of War, different strokes.

Name some of these games you had in mind that aren't better than Diablo III. I can think of about 10 RPGs that came out in the last 5 - 7 years or so that are better than Diablo III

It's a game that takes a while to get into. But I'm starting to really dig it.

My favorite non sports game this generation. Right there with the Dead Space Series and Mass Effect series.

An instant classic.

Will get around to second playthrough next year. It is an exhausting experience.

Right now I am immersed with Madden 25 and NCAA 14 and I am starting my post season in my year one Yankees franchise on The Show 13.

Loving Red Dead Redemption and can't believe it took me this long to get around to it.

I really.....really want to start Dark Souls as my next non-sports game....and looks like I will in November.

Looking forward to Batman Arkham Origins as my last game purchase for this year. I love this series.

I will pick up GTA V next year on the cheap.

Okay, I get what you are saying now. I love the Diablo franchise and started playing it on a Windows95 (I don't think it was on 98) with the first Diablo and was hooked, but I haven't been excited for this one for some reason. Might be that I have migrated more towards shooters, but I burned many hours in Skyrim.

While Skyrim, Dark Souls and Diablo III all are based in RPG's, they are significantly different versions of RPG's, that each have their own pro's and cons.

Personally I like the variety. As good as Skyrim was, I would get tired of the identical game play every time I picked up an RPG.

Action RPG = Button masher = Diablo and it's like. Sacred, Dungeon Siege, Torchlight, etc. Top down camera / loot-fest / wave after wave of enemies / minimal story / multiplayer usually trumps single player / etc.

The reality is Action RPG is actually an expansive genre that covers a ton of games, its just that its typically used to refer to the hack and slash genre specifically. Why, I have no idea.

If you're having fun with Diablo III, have at it. Again, it's just a decade behind other RPGs.

If you want to lump all of these games that derived from DnD as simply "RPG's", then I do agree. But I didn't buy Diablo III expecting anything but a linear, button mashing, loot-driven, co-op multiplayer game. And it shines as that.

I did not expect any kind of deep story, open world, exploration, etc. That's simply not the (sub) genre it occupies.

I guess that's it - I see these RPG's as several different styles. I suppose some people don't.

Well, I got bored of SC2 a lot more quickly than I did 1, because I basically played the same to death 10 years earlier. But the bigger issue is that Blizzard has been a top 3 developer for decades but isn't making any new IP or dramatically advancing the genres in which it has a presence (at least since WoW, to my knowledge) That's a little disappointing given the bar they have set for themselves.

Ok, I can see why you would feel let down then, but I also think that shows limitations of any particular genre. They prettymuch perfected it a decade ago - kill / loot / level - to the point where it can't change all that radically (the game has to be somewhat linear for balance). There have been a lot of action RPG's over the last five to seven years, all with the same basic structure, and Diablo III still outshines them all.

I don't see how it could be much better, really. But I also agree that if you were expecting a "Thief series to Dishonored" leap (or Morrowind to Skyrim), it will fall short.

I was simply making a comparison in series / genre "leaps" - if you were expecting a Morrowind to Skyrim kind of leap, (which it seems you were, by emphasizing the dev time), I could see why you'd be disappointed.

In my mind, the Diablo franchise occupies a fairly narrow space - multiplayer first, button mashing lootfest. You have the Sacred and Dungeon Siege franchises. There's the Baulder's gate console offerings, and the XBL Arcade games like Torchlight and such. You can even include the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games if you like. But that's prettymuch it. What else is there that you can realistically compare Diablo III to?

I keep hearing that, and maybe I tried it too late, but I found it quite boring.

It's a game that takes a while to get into. But I'm starting to really dig it.

Your second playthrough will be a lot easier even on a higher difficulty. Most areas can be stealthed once you know what's going on.

In case you weren't aware, in 2007 Blizzard was acquired by Activision, they were mid development of SC2 and D3 at the time of the acquisition (which imo is likely the cause of most of the horrible design choices, although SC2 seems to have escaped most of them, but there were some) - that being said they have also been in production of two entirely new games that have been delayed several times:

Hearthstone, a free to play TCG based on the WoW TCG that is receiving rave reviews and looks pretty solid in my opinion will be released by next year I think and will go into open beta in October I think.

Blizzard All-stars, before Valve officially acquired the rights to DOTA 2, Blizzard All-stars was going to be a DOTA style game featuring heroes from all the Blizzard franchises - there have been multiple delays including a lawsuit with Valve over the rights of DOTA 2

But its not all doom and gloom for the developer, as Activision has been making a lot of solid decisions lately as well as Blizzard and most recently they are trying to become independent again from the majority owners - the infamous French media company Vivendi.
