Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (13 Viewers)

Just upgraded my GPU and received a rewards card to select 1 of 4 games for free. I haven't played any of the selections. Any recommendations on which one to take?

Sleeping Dogs

Deus Ex Human Evolution

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon

Dirt 3
Deus Ex is a really good stealth game. I think a typical playthrough is 20-25 hours, it has pretty good replay value, and it would be my pick of those four games.

Sleeping Dogs is a lot like GTA, only it's much more focused on melee combat than firearms. Good, solid game.

Blood Dragon was fun for me at first, but I never finished it. Not as good as "regular" Far Cry 3.

I don't know what Dirt 3 is.
Concur about Deus Ex, very cool game.

Walking Dead Season 2 is out on iOS. Not sure about consoles. Tempted to buy this as well as season 1 but I have the season 1 disc for PS3.

Intrigued by Ace of Spades Battle Builder. On sale with stream. Anyone have any experience with it? Thinking my Minecraft son might like it.

Thanks! That's what I'll get then.

I would probably take Dues Ex. I'd stay far away from Dirt 3 or Blood Dragon, but have heard decent things about Sleeping Dogs as well.

I'm having more fun with my PS3 than I've had in a long time. I go through long periods where I'm not that into gaming, but now that the new systems are out, it seems to have rekindled my interest in the PS3. A similar thing happened years ago with my Gamecube when new systems were coming out. Not sure why that is. Anyway, having fun with the new Ratchet and Clank. I will probably play The Last of Us next, and I have a big backlog of games that I haven't played.

Anybody play this? Looks interesting and has good reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Ni-No-Kuni-Wrath-Playstation-3/dp/B007A7UJ4S/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1387660279&sr=1-1&keywords=ni+no+kuni

dirt 3 is a race game but its rally car racing.

good game but 4th on that list
Dirt might be a good game on console but I had a really hard time playing it on PC - seemed like a bad port job (I think I might have played 2 though, not 3)
I got Dirt 3 with my video card. I don't remember any issues
Maybe they did a better job porting Dirt 3, 2 was an abomination.

Dirt is fun if you like racing games. I've played 2, but not 3. So, I'm assuming it's still good.

Anyone getting any games for Christmas? I have more than enough by my son is getting his BF4 premium and the family is getting Lego Marvel and Disney Infinity.

After literally dozens of attempts, I finally managed to beat the last level of Resogun on "normal" (experienced). My heart was pounding during about the last third or so when I realized that I had two more lives and a bomb and was so close I could taste it. It takes a really good game to create that kind of tension and sense of accomplishment.

If you are talking about the Steam sales, I haven't seen anything to pique my interest. And I still have 2-3 games in my Steam collection I haven't even started yet.

Oblivion GOTY

The Witcher 2

Dragon Age Origins

Antichamber

Max Payne 3

Tomb Raider

All part of today's Steam sale. That is a ton of quality gaming right there.

Just two or three? Man I think I have 173. . . :bag:

I got these three with all content for $18. Awesome deals.
Nice. You have probably 70 hours, at least, of entertainment ahead of you. Heck I put in that much time on The Witcher 2 alone. On an entertainment per hour per dollar basis I think very few things compare to video games purchased during a Steam sale.

I've only grabbed Duck Tales HD remastered. I've heard great things and the original was one of my favorite NES games.

Who the hell doesn't already have Oblivion who has any interest in that genre? That game has been borderline-free for years now.

Not a crack on Steam obviously since some of those just came out this year, but that's a weird title to headline a sale.

I think I probably put 100 into DA and Oblivion each, 50 into Witcher 2. Definitely a great deal for <$20

seems like an odd thing to become passionate about. I imagine some people first became aware of TES with Skyrim and may be interested in its predecessor. I did that with the Mass Effect series.

Reviews for the game look fantastic. Haven't played it yet, but I definitely plan on it in the near future.
It was great. I used to play JRPGs all the time and fell out of it. I assumed I had just grown bored of the genre. Turns out I was just waiting for anther great one.

Highly recommend Ni No Kuni.

I'd like to point out that everyone should get Rogue Legacy. High quality game. I played it for hours.

Too Platformy for me. Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a better rogue-like experience IMO.

Tell me about Borderlands 2. Steam has it and all DLC on sale for $15 today.

I enjoy RPGs and FPS games so it seems like this would be a fun game for me. Loved Skyrim (my first game in the Elder Scrolls series), Fallout 3, and New Vegas. I liked Dragon Age: Origins a lot.

That being said, I'm a single player gamer far more than co-op gamer. Is this game fun for the single player that likes to level and destroy the universe?

Yes. Not as heavy on the RPG elements. Think more like Diablo type development, but a good game even as a single player.

I have played BL and BL2 almost exclusively SP and loved it. Co-op is great fun, but in no way makes the game less of the awesome time it is.

It is absolutely a blast in SP mode but you should really explore the co-op mode too, they really nailed it.

Great information. Borderlands 2 is now purchased and with my Steam purchases recently, it appears that I will be single well into 2015. :nerd:

Thanks again, guys!

"Better" isn't the word you want to go with when you haven't tried the other. I'll give it to you that SotS: The Pit is a more traditional Rogue-like. Rogue Legacy has been up for some awards this year. If you don't want to try it because you don't like platformers, that's understandable. It's still a great game I recommend to everyone.

I've played both so I think I can go with "better".

Enjoy! I got a ton of hours out of single player for both borderlands games. Great fun. The comparison to Diablo is a good one in that it is a super heavy loot game, and that gear (weapons in BL) take a bit of precedence over character building.

He got the qualifier right. I won't argue it. The original post gave me impression that you hadn't. My bad on the assumption (yes, I know about assuming - something about an *** and a ming).

But you're the first person I've ever met that didn't like Rogue Legacy.

edit: My favorite modern Rogue-like is still The Binding of Isaac, though.

I'm just not a platformer guy. I recognize the game is clever and innovative. It's not not for me. Have Binding Of Isaac but haven't played yet.

I respect that. Not every game/game type can suit everyone. I'm not fans of every genre myself.

I haven't played SotS: The Pit yet, but I almost bought it during a flash sale the other night. If I see it go back on, I'll give it a shot, assuming I have more in my Steam wallet. I'm trying to budget my spending on this sale.

2K14 for the PC on sale for $6 from Green Man Gaming with Code: GMG20-ZB5D1-93X49

http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/sports/nba-2k14-na/
I wonder if the support for this year is better than last year. 2k13 was really poor on the PC side. If I was sure 2k14 was fixed, I'd insta-buy.
Yeah I never got used to the controls (can't remember which version I had) but for $6 thought it was worth a shot. I need a good controller for the PC.

Anyone play Contagion? Looks like an interesting cross between DayZ and the Left for Dead series, leaning a bit more towards L4D than DayZ. It's an Early Access Game, but I've played enough Beta games (BF4, for instance) for that to not bother me too much. For less than $4, looks interesting.

Speaking of early access games I've been playing a ton of Rust this weekend.

It's a Minecraft/DayZ crossover style game. I joined a server as a single met up with a few griefers to start but built up and eventually found a group to join. Has been a great time.

It's being made by Garry Newman who made Garry's Mod. I doubt it'll go on sale during the winter sale and it's hard to recommend whole heartedly at it's current price($20) and build (Alpha) but I've enjoyed it a ton.
