Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

I can't play Dark Souls. Playing Demon Souls was the closest I've ever come to throwing my controller at the tv. The game deserves a special place in hell.
Seriously. Though in reading this thread, I'm close to going downstairs over lunch to popping it in to give it another spin. Even as a Royal, I'm getting creamed on some pair of dragon bosses. Like I die in 10 seconds it's so bad.
What level are you on? If you are going after the two dragons resting in a field near the castle, I think on 1-2, you are going to get creamed. They are not meant to be ####ed with at that location early or even mid way through the game. They are almost unbeatable in that location. But they also are not bosses, you don't need to fight them in that location. Just go in another direction. One will fly over you and there is a safe place to stand where his fire won't hit you and then you attacked with a ranged spell or weapon.
I can't recall my level (been months). The bosses I'm talking about are in another area at the top of a long winding staircase where one of those blind monks hangs out.

Going full time into Madden 12 again, haven't had time for Red Dead Redemption (STILL going through story mode) or Halo Reach (haven't been in the shooter fix lately). If anyone wants to play Madden give me a shout on Xbox live, name is Ryanw4390

Get a good bow and a bunch of arrows (not fire arrows -- they don't work). Go to the fog gate but don't go through. Instead, poke up along the very lefthand side of the gate. See the first Maneater standing there? Fire an arrow at him. See how he just stands there taking damage? Keep doing that until he's dead. Now go through the fog door. His buddy will show up, but you'll only have to fight one of them. You're welcome.

I'm sure this info is in here somewhere, but I'm too lazy to find it...

I'm an xbox guy who is picking up a PS3 with some extra gift cards I obtained. Right now, as far as exclusives go I've got the Uncharted series on my radar in addition to Demon's Souls, which is the main thing I want to try. What other older exclusives should I check out? I'm a big shooter fan. Resistance/Killzone series worth playing through? Any other PS3 exclusives with a good online community that I should look for? I was a huge socom guy way back in the PS2 days, but I've heard nothing but bad things about this generations socom games.

I'm not going to play this game but I love reading the posts here about it. :lmao:

For anyone playing Dark Souls - When you go to the depths and you find the frogs, they are pretty easy until they curse you and your hp's are halved until you get it cured :wall:

great even something as innocuous as a frog is a pain in the butt :)Can't wait to play this game in a few months when the prices come down. How has the online experience been so far? Are people crossing over in your games or are you playing in a private mode?

Ended up not getting a ps3 and just saving the gift cards for games. Didnt know dark souls was on xbox, so picked that up. Died 5 times on the first boss. :bag:

Are you saying you basically just avoid the random gates or do you mean you just sprint straight to the sigils? Those spiral towers are very annoying. I think I'll just skip the gates that are not vital to the story line.
HATED the spiral towers. Also reminds me of how sometimes the arrow supposed to point you in the right direction would be out of whack. Personally once I figured out I didn't need to even do the gates I just stopped closing them and avoided them entirely.
That's what I'm going to do this time. I've also starting making stupid random potions/poisons out of cheese and pears to sell to merchants for easy gold. It's both dumb and funny.
I know I'm coming in a little late and maybe someone already said this, but you can avoid the gates entirely by ignoring the main quest. There's *tons* to do w/o ever touching the main quest. IIRC, rising in all the guilds would probably take close to 20 hours.

I made the mistake of attacking this Knight guy with a shield at the 3rd or so campfire. Yea.... bad mistake. It re-spawned me every time at the campfire with the knight aggroed at me. I must have spent over an hour fighting him before realizing it would only take me 10 minutes if I just restarted. But then I would have to beat the giant demon again........

How's this for old skool?

I recently fired up Guild Wars and made a character for my 5 year old son. I control it, but he tells me where to go and what to do. It's like a live action cartoon fantasy novel for him. I read everything people say, all the narration, etc. He's totally immersed in the story.

The nice thing about Guild Wars is it's a MMORPG with no monthly fee and uses instancing for violent areas (so no griefing by other players). As long as you access your account every year or so, it's there for the playing.

Not very.

However, I am happy you're enjoying time with your son.

Yea, it's no Bard's Tale, but in the timeline of MMORPGs, it's fairly old skool.ETA: though I'm amazed at how many people are still logged on to that game. Nobody I knew back in 2004, but there's still a decent population.

Theres something about calling someone into your realm to help with a boss, but heck if I know.

Humanity thing is a bit of a mystery also.

Hold Humanity The amount of Humanity held by the player is represented by a number in the top left corner of the HUD. "Holding" Humanity - that is, using the consumable items the points are in, and holding them in your Humanity meter - puts those points at risk. Upon death, you will drop your held Humanity as well as your Souls, increasing the price of dying twice. Holding Humanity is not the same as being human. Recovering your Human form will cost you one Humanity point from your held total. The level of Humanity increases the player's resistance to being Cursed. The level of Humanity also increases the player's item discovery stat witch determines the likelihood of enemies dropping items. Having 1 humanity increases item discovery to 120 (from the base of 100), and each additional humanity increases item discovery by between 2 and 5 points. The maximum item discovery attainable from humanity is 210 achieved at 30 humanity. The level of Humanity affects the damage of various items/spells that do "chaos" damage." This damage maxes at 10 humanity (EDIT: Using great chaos fireball, saw NO difference in damage counting down from 10 humanity).Use Humanity Humanity is used to revive to Human form, or to kindle Bonfires. Regaining Human form costs one Humanity point, which you must spend at a Bonfire. You may choose to "Kindle" any bonfire by spending a Humanity point there, while you are already Human. Doing this will increase the maximum number of "swigs" your Estus Flask recovers from staying at that fire. Human form will allow players to summon Phantoms for help and guidance on their journey. Human form will allow players to invade an other player's world. Human form will also leave the player open to invasions by hostile Black Phantoms.Earn Humanity Humanity can be earned by playing as a Phantom, and help kill the end-level boss. Humanity can be earned by killing Evil Spirits (invading players), or by invading and killing a player in another world. Humanity can be earned by having your hint sign up-voted by another player. Humanity can be earned by killing a large amount of monsters in one area if the boss is alive (up to 10 Humanity). Dying, using the bonfire, or leaving the area does not reset your monster kill count for that area. Humanity can be bought from some merchants. Humanity can be found, as a dropped item, from some killed enemies. Humanity can be found as a consumable item. Sewer Rats drops consumable humanity items. These consumables can be stored, just like other items, and will not be lost if the player dies. Consuming a humanity item will also restore the player's health.Lose Humanity Humanity is lost upon death, with one chance to retrieve it, if the player can reach the bloodstain where death occurred. If the player dies in Human Form, it will respawn in Hollowed form, or as an undead. Dying will result in the message 'You Died'. Hollowed form has detrimental effects on the player, but does not decrease maximum health.

I'm not sure if I've posted it in here before, but I am in the market for an Xbox 360 headset. I've been using the basic ones that came with the system for like 3 years now, and while they're not horrible, they can be kinda glitchy and occasionally don't work. Given how much I play, I think it's justified.

I've looked at Turtle Beach's website, but are there other good brands as well?

I'm looking for one that has both ears with closed/covered ears if possible. Wired or wireless isn't a dealbreaker, though I guess I'd prefer wireless if I had a choice. Budget is ~$100. Recommendations?

I have some turtle beach x41's (I think - the wireless ones with surround sound) that are amazing sound-wise but the microphone creates a pretty nasty echo-effect with Gears 3 for some reason (fine with other games). Mileage on that may vary depending on what other wireless devices are around to interfere with the signal. Amazon has them for like $120.

Most of your options in the $100 price range will be wired. The X11s from Turtle Beach are a good choice. They are stereo and wired. The headset itself is comfortable and the wires are long enough that you can sit 8ft or more from your TV and console if you need to. My only concern with Turtle Beach is their durability. I have had three of their headsets and only one is still working, the X11s that my son uses. You can also use the PX21s. They are marketed to PS3 users, but they work on the 360 also with no loss of features. Plus you now have a headset that works with both consoles. The X11s will work with the PS3 but you will have no ability to chat. These headsets will run you between $50 and $80 dollars. Amazon currently has the Turtle Beach X31s for $79.99, this is basically the wireless version of the X11. These run on AA batteries. I dont know much about these but I think a couple of the FBGs have them. You might also want to look at headsets from Tritton. The AX180 headset is in your price range while the AX720 is just a bit outside your limit at $130.

Looks like Arkham City comes out today. I've done a good job waiting on these games that I would have otherwise bought and saving up some loot, but I'll probably have to break the bank on this one.

Toys r Us is doing a buy 2 get 1 free sale. I got a few games there for the kids for Christmas and Arkham for myself. On a separate note, I'll be interested to see how that Skylanders game does. That was one of the games I got (for the 3ds)and I like how they can use the 'portal' to not only access their game, but also a friend's as well, even if it's a different system (like, say, Xbox). Apparently the stats on the creature that you use is saved to the actual toy you put on the portal. Pretty neat idea IMO. I think they'll get a kick out of it.

Batman: Arkham City received universal acclaim by critics. Review aggregation website GameRankings provides an average score of 97.5% for the PS3 version, based on 8 reviews, and 94.4% for the Xbox 360 version, based on 18 reviews.Fellow aggregator Metacritic provides an average score of 98 out of 100 for the PS3 version, based on 11 reviews, and 95 out of 100 for the Xbox 360 version, based on 30 reviews.Wow. I really liked Batman AA but didn't expect this.

Someone explain the Batman games to me. I generally avoid comic book games. What type of game is it? Stealth? Action?

Open world (sand box style) stealth action-adventure game. Could clock in about 60 hours into this game.

Does anyone here use Goozex.com for trading? Paypal decided to close my account out of the blue so I'm looking for another avenue for trading Ps3 games. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, I do. It's pretty good value most of the time. Personally I use it to acquire mostly older games that I missed on. Never had a problem getting a game / getting my points / etc. Good service.I think it's hard to get newer games close to release, but I figure that's probably not what most people use it for.

Thanks for the heads up man.

I thought AA was amazing but didn't think Rocksteady would be able to pull that off that level of fidelity in an open-world environment. Now if they would only make a Spawn title.

It's both.. there's sections of the game where you're meant to fight hand to hand, and there are sections where you're meant to be stealthy and pull off stealth kills, because if you get caught you'll get scraped by dudes with machine guns. Batman isn't so invincible that you can get away with running around like an idiot; if you don't play it intelligently, you will be punished. Arkham Asylum was one of my favorite games of 2010. The storytelling and production value of the world is brilliant too.

I'm about to start getting back into Goozex. I've got New Vegas just sitting here which I'll never play and I don't really fool with Vanquish anymore either. Rather than get a cool 7 bucks from Gamestop for them I'm gonna try to Goozex them sometime this week. Great site.

Besides the TRU buy 2 get 1 this week, K-mart has a deal on Batman when you have their card. $30 credit towards a future purchase, I think a possible t-shirt too, thought I saw it as cheap ### gamer...

Dead Island was really boring. Really wanted to like it as I am a big fan of all things zombie, but it was extremely repetitive, buggy, and had no story/plot to speak of. I traded it in having completed 58% of the campaign. Major disappointment.

Great game for kids, but fun enough for dads to enjoy too. I have a feeling that Skylanders is going to be all the rage with 6 to 10 year olds this Christmas.

Saw mention of headsets up above - I too am going to be in the market for a good PS3 set to play CODMW3 on. Or Battlefield 3 (all my friends and I are going to get the same one) Point being I could use some headsets and I'm on a budget. Did anybody use headsets with CODMW2 or WaW that they liked and would recommend?

To revisit this - if I want wired, I have to sit within 8 feet of the TV?

I feel the same way. Its really felt like a task just log in a couple of hours at a time. I am going to keep playing slowly in hopes that it can take to me 11 Nov when Skyrim drops.

I think I've overloaded my PSU again. So I order a 1000w this time. Hopefully that cures the problem because I have Skyrim coming on the 11th. :ptts:
