Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

I don't know that I'd ever play it, but I thought this was an interesting article at Joystiq.com:

If you're a programmer, you may find inspiration in the source code for the original Apple II version of Prince of Persia. 23 years after the game's release, and about two weeks after finding his old floppies, Jordan Mechner has posted the source code to GitHub, where it's freely accessible. The copying took place at a "megacopy" party, assisted by digital archivist Jason Scott using various modified computer hardware. We're glad people like Mechner exist who can do things like "write Prince of Persia," and we're glad people like Scott exist who can figure out how to preserve this material for computers that aren't 35 years old. We're here to ... appreciate the effort? We're totally doing our part!

Is Borderlands GOTYE worth getting ($20) if I don't play online?I missed out on Arkham City for $30 at Gamestop a few weeks ago. :wall:
I don't recommend Borderlands if you aren't playing multiplayer. It's quite dull alone.
:badposting: It's a great single player run through that will take up plenty of time. Enjoy it for 20 bucks.
 I guess it's my opinion. After playing it through with some friends to a certain point, I tried playing it alone, since no one else plays it anymore. It was a chore and I haven't touched it since. I guess your mileage may vary on this. And since he'll not likely touch a co-op experience, he may not miss it.
I was not impressed by the single player either. Maybe it's still worth $20, but I certainly regretted paying sticker at the time.
Yea, its too trying too hard imo. I like cussing and gore as much as the next guy but they go so far that it sedates you. I've played far worse but it felt like a inferior non 3rd person knockoff off gears meets Duke Nukem. Garbage.
Gotta be schtick.
Yeah, and shtick I don't get at that. Borderlands had no cussing at all, and I don't even remember much in the way of gore, no worse than average in that department.

I'm thinking Mobbin is talking about Bulletstorm.

I know for many of you, this year looks to be promising, with good games coming out. But for me, it seems to be the driest year I can remember. Perhaps it's due to the transition in console generations that is about to take place. But here are the only games that I'm excited about this year.

Bioshock Infinite - still doesn't have a release date, so I hope it still releases this year.

Retro City Rampage - Yes, it's an XBLA title, but I've been looking forward to this game for so long. It still doesn't have a release date, but I'm hoping for it to be included in this year's XBLA Summer of Arcade games.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD - Yes, I'm cheating again, but Tony Hawk's original games are going to be redone in HD for XBLA and PSN releases and I'm happy to buy it again.

Games I want, but I'm not overly excited about:

Diablo III - I wasn't really big into D2 like many here. During that time, I was playing TFC very regularly or out with friends. It was one of my least outreaching times for games. I maybe played 4 or 5 a year and later caught up to what I missed. But D3 still interests me, but I wonder if my budget will allow me to buy it. I'm gonna try to make it work.

Assassin's Creed 3 - I'm a big fan of the franchise and I'm ready to move on in the story. I'll play this whether it's by rental or purchase.

Tomb Raider - I'm really interested in what they're doing to revamp this series. After the first couple of games in the original series, I stopped caring and didn't really play much of them, but I like what I've seen so far. Another I'll definitely play some way or another.

Borderlands 2 - Yes, I know I said that the game felt dull when playing alone earlier, but it's absolutely awesome and fun when playing with friends. I hope this time I don't wait too long to jump on board of this game that I was nearly too late for the party for last time.

Battleship - That's right. A game based on a movie that's based on a board game, but the game isn't based on the board game. Wait! What the [explicative]! That's gonna suck! I don't want that.

Yeah, I got nothing else. I'm sure I'll play more games than this this year, but it doesn't look like a big year at all to me. Of course, E3 is still 2 months away, so there could still be more big games announced, but that's what I have so far. Go! What games are you looking forward to? What didn't I name that I should pay more attention to?

Has anyone played Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning? Looks pretty good.
Competent third person action/RPG. Combat is a little easy, but is also pretty fun.Overall, it's kind of God of War meets Fable meets Dragon Age. If you like those, you'll have fun with this.

Max Payne 3Guild Wars 2

Both of those will be great. Get on some Trine 2 and join me. :)

Oooh, and Torchlight 2, as well.

Halo 4 official release date announced for 11/6/12. Going to go head to head with the new Call of Duty for the holiday season.
I may skip CoD this year and pick up H4. MW3 has soured me.
I was wondering if this would be a common sentiment, given the reported failure that MW3 ended up becoming. The new one will be the follow-up to Black Ops, though, which seemed to have a pretty good following here.

To me, the last few games are all essentially the same thing. Halo 4 here by a mile.

I picked up a copy of SSX for PS3 and played for about half an hour. Decided this game was more fun when I was younger, single and had more free time. If anyone is interested in this game shoot me a PM. I didn't register/use the code for online features, so consider the game brand new.

I should have went with my gut and picked up TW13...

Agreed. I'm cautiously optimistic about Bioshock, but otherwise there's nothing coming up that I'm especially looking forward to. I'm hoping that The Last of Us or GTA5 will release around the holidays, but that's doubtful IMO.

Just curious if anyone has heard anything about Left 4 Dead 3? Is it ever going to come to fruition?

I do a search every once in a while, but find nothing. It'd be unfortunate if the series died off. I still play the **** out of Left 4 Dead 2 on versus mode. :boxing:

Nothing has been announced yet. I've heard rumblings that Valve has an announcement for E3 this year. I personally hope it's regarding the next Half-Life game, whether it be Episode 3 or Half-Life 3. They left us with a huge cliff hanger and we're coming up on 5 years since Episode 2 was released.Of course, they do have DOTA 2 releasing soon also.

Heard any news on HL:2 Episode 3? One thing that I love about Valve and Blizzard, they don't rush things. It will come out when it is ready and it will be awesome!Edit: damn slax I thought I was going to beat you to it!

It's awesome. If you like RPG's, check this one out. Fun, challenging combat (you can't button mash your way to victory), very involved story, rather mature/dark, etc.

Yes, it was very unlike Valve to announce Left 4 Dead 2 so close to Left 4 Dead 1's release. That's why there was a big boycott. And they did have a good point. When everything was ported over to L4D2 and the Left 4 Dead 1 community was dead.

I did the same thing. Going to sell it back to GameStop I guess. :(

Does this compare to Dark Souls?
It's not as hardcore in combat, but it is somewhat unforgiving (and has way more story). It's definitely harder than Dragon Age / Skyrim / etc. No healing as you fight (potions are more for buffs/etc), you need to dodge/block (w/ a sword - no shield). There are a few spells that are buffs / damage. It's fun.

Dark Soul stands on it's own. Witcher 2 is a "R" rated action rpg with a very good to great story set in a fantasy universe along the lines of Dragon Age.

But like I mentioned earlier, the combat is pretty good - it's definitely a cut above dragon age/etc. You do have to pay attention to what you are doing. It's not as tactical as Dark Souls, but it's as close that any recent game has gotten. It has a pretty gritty / grim feel too.

I really enjoyed it. But the "R" rating is being generous - not a game for the kids.

So, hypothetically, if you're somewhat intoxicated when playing it might not be the best game?

Picked it up but have yet to try it. Care to explain the "R"? Is it sex or violence and gore? Can you use archery or is a must to use swords and magic?

I haven't gotten very far yet, but one of the first cut scenes has bewbies. Not sure about archery, but there is new skills you get to learn and I know one of them is throwing daggers.

Sex / violence / language. Not super far in, but no bows yet. You can customize your character, but not to the extent of Skyrim/etc.

No archery. As I recall magic is pretty limited too - no shooting lightning at people or anything. The whole premise is that the guy is a swordsman. Language and more nudity and gratuitous sex scenes than any video game I've played.

Okay, there's officially a 10,000% chance that I'm going to get a ballerass PC for myself this year if I have the means at all.

http://youtu.be/zg7vocw4RUI
That looks amazing.
And I look at that and think, "yup, zero interest". I know, I know, I have the right to be wrong ;) Just not my cup 'o tea there.
I wouldn't like it, only because Im not a big FPS guy. Looks amazing though.
Yeah, it looks astronomically epic to me. The only way I can see it not being my cup of tea is if I didn't enjoy playing fun video games. On the other hand, it might be something I should stay away from. Getting into an MMO is the last thing I need right now.
:lmao: Its really does look insane. Might have to not let my FPS woes ....wait.... never mind, Ill never have a system that can play it.
Yeah, it looks like Borderlands in space with a ton of friends and tons of stuff to do. I'm sold.
I forgot about this game forever ago and finally dug this post up again. Game still looks raw as hell. Free to play if you gots da PC for it:http://youtu.be/x23fkDB9rW8

It's called Firefall.

I've been playing Tiger Woods 13 for a couple weeks now (PS3). It's actually pretty decent compared to past versions. Normally, I've gotten them here and there and let them collect dust. This edition, they added country clubs, coins and pins.

Country Clubs: up to 25 members can join and compete. You can set up private tournaments (daily & weekly), as well as play other members of your league through your country club lobby.

Coins: In game currency, you can actually buy courses with the coins you earn. No longer do you have to pay cash for this downloadable content. You earn coins by playing more and signing in everyday.

Pins: Boosts on player attributes. You can earn pins by mastering courses and can be used to boost your attributes, or many other things.

So far I'm enjoying this game. I'm on a PS3 and I see these guys have started a country club. I have a club with 4 members so far. If you are just getting this game, or looking for a club, let me know. Being a member helps you earn coins and things faster. Look us up: Badger Ridge is the name of the CC.

Trials Evolution on XBLA. The first Trials HD is still one my favorite XBLA games ever. They just released a sequel which blows the first one away. Highly Recommended!

I kept hearing how awesome Trials Evolution is, so I went to download it and then I realized that my mind kept hearing "Tribes Evolution". I was hoping for a new Tribes game. Aw man.

Mass Effect 3 is on sale at Amazon today for $29.99 so I think I'm going to finally pick that up.

Also considering getting Deus Ex, that's on sale for $9.99 with Amazon Download. Has anyone ever bought stuff through amazon download before? Any issues? I've never downloaded a game before through steam or amazon, but can't beat that price.

I'm holding out for another month or two. Any really popular games value drops significantly in a short amount of time. Hell, you can get Fallout Vegas for like $8. That might be the best deal in all of the land.

I was thinking about getting 2 and 3 together but the reviews for 3's ending(s) was so bad that I think I'll hold off on it for now. I'm not really a scifi fan so I'll just get ME2 and see if I like the series enough to buy the 3rd.

Okay, this is pretty cool and I hope the guy does the same thing with Mass Effect:

Uncharted series recut into movie form

The Uncharted series is a few dramatic zooms and giant blue people away from being a true Hollywood movie, and now it's one step closer to the silver screen experience. Redditor morphinapg has cut together the cinematic cutscenes from all three Uncharted titles to create three separate feature-length films.

Morphinapg used a minimal amount of gameplay to connect the cutscenes, and voila, we have a movie series that anyone – at least 180,000 on YouTube – can enjoy.

"With these projects I was trying to make movies that would be viewable whether or not you had played the game, or even care about playing video games, so I wanted to make them as close to a real movie as possible," Morphinapg wrote. Watch the first fan-made Uncharted movie above, and the following two

Been spending time between Bulletstorm and Trine 2 while I wait for Diablo 3. I would highly recommend Trine or Trine 2 to anyone.

Downloaded Master of Orion 1&2 on Sunday night to re-live some two games that took many hours of my life. Still fun and making me do the one more turn thing. Although now i have to get up for work in the morning and it hurts a lot more.

Question: how much would i need to spend to buy a computer capable of running Diablo 3 reasonably?

Easily under $800, I could probably configure one without monitor and OS for less than $600 easily.

I didn't realize you purchased Trine 2 yet. Would you have time to play co-op anytime soon if I purchased it? I've been really bored lately. I'm dying to find something new to play.
