Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (7 Viewers)

this is probably a flameable statement, but I'm just not very stoked about Diablo 3.I enjoyed the first one, but at the time there wasn't anything like it. Now the concept doesn't thrill me as much as it did.
Nah, nor are you alone in your assesment. I played the first one. Thought it was ok, but nothing special. There's only so long that "kill everything, find loot" style of play can keep a person entertained. I preferred what I considered to be "real" RPGs much, much more, like Baldur's Gate and whatnot. As someone who loved Bioshock and Bioshock 2, I'm not to excited about Infinite either. I have been watching the videos of game play and I can't lie, that flying around trying to jump rail to rail looks like something that just isn't going to suit me a bit. To be honest, if the video is realistic of the gameplay, it just moves way to fast for my taste. I'll defnitely be kicking back and waiting for the hard core reviews to come out. That one will not be a pre-order for me.

Well considering everything I have read says it sucks, I'm right there with you.One of the nice things about the first one was the customization of your character, but from what I understand, a lot of that is missing.

Where are you reading that people are saying its gonna suck? Most stuff I've read says it's gonna be awesome, granted that's primarily on the diablo page on reddit..

I could have sworn that I saw a Bioshock / Bioshock 2 PS3 bundle at Best Buy ($30-$40), but I can't find it anywhere online. Have you guys seen this, or am I imagining things?

On another board. Mostly the complaints are that the customization has all been nerfed and everybody is going to be running around with the same characters and only gear will separate them.

I've seen them bundle those on Steam, but I haven't seen a console bundle. I have, however, seen a Bioshock/Oblivion bundle.

Really that's not much different than Diablo II where everyone puts all their stats into Vitality and all their skill points into a couple a good skills and all of their synergies. Here's a solid post from reddit on the subject:

I was debating on posting anything at all but I figured I would because I'm sure the are many others that are/were in the same boat I was in.

I was not selected for the Diablo 3 beta, and jumped at the opportunity to check out the beta this past weekend. I went into the beta with a somewhat open mind annoyed by the mechanic changes. Namely around the skill system/leveling, secondly round the pot system.

When information first started to get out there the first thing I honed in on was the health orbs. I hated the idea of not being able to hit a heal as soon as I thought it was needed. I was worried that having heal orbs all around after every kill was going to hinder the game and make it too easy. Thankfully (at least with my limited time playing) this didn't seem to be the case the health orbs were distributed nicely with 'q' being reserved for panic heals. It made me more aware of asking myself "this has an xx cool down do I really need it?". I felt is mechanic allowed me to be more aware of my mortality in the game. I found myself not mindlessly hammering mobs but acting in a more strategic manner.

The skills system in general quite frankly pissed me off. I was so annoyed at the idea that I couldn't have complete control of /my/ character. I was frustrated that the game felt it knew what stats /I/ wanted to increase every level. I griped about this to several friends and after getting into the beta initially the perceived limitations made it annoying.

Annoyed I rage quit the game on saturday and loaded up diablo 2 and started to play. It was several months since I last played so I found the need to roll a new character. I selected a barb, and what did I do .... I immediately started looking up builds for this class. It took a few minutes for me to realize what I was doing. But at level 1 I was trying to decide how to get the most damage or whatever out of my character. I was researching how I was going to cast my character for the entire game. I had to sit back because it was a realization that what blizz has done with the new system is not hendered us but made it fun again to just play.

I thought back to my weekend griping and whining about how the game didn't do this or that. What I failed to realize is that not once did I try to see what stats a best for this character, or where should I put my skill points. Further on Sunday I realized an elective mode where you can select what skills you want to use, not being limited to the skills interface.

I started to think that for what the game is ... It truly was fun. Is it going to be a match for theorycrafting or folks trying to squeeze DPS out of a toon .... Maybe not. For me lets me roll a char and focus on gameplay not plan out how I want this guy to look by the time I get to what ever end game content there is. Specifically for magic users or melee class you arent working towards being able to have a single weapon or tactic. You have everything at your disposal, allowing you to pick what works in the situation you are in now.

Say what you will but I really feel that the franchise has grown up, and blizzard again may define the genre. Just my thoughts on the open weekend, and it has made me more ready for this game to (finally) drop.

I will say that the skill system will have just as many if not more options than d2 had. their are just different choices to make. once they get the balance and progression correct (happened in d1, and d2, and will surely take a little time in d3) it will be just as fun, if not more so, than d2 was.

For instance, there was a constant debate about the Necro class over whether vitality or dexterity was better. I tried it both ways, both were viable.

Not true. For instance, there was a constant debate about the Necro class over whether vitality or dexterity was better. I tried it both ways, both were viable.I suppose one could argue pumping enough dexterity to get max block was a viable PVP strategy for necros or paladins, but considering if you did get hit you'd be dead in 1 or 2 hits, personally I think pumping vitality was a better strategy for either character. Besides that, sorceress' could have put some points in energy if they maxed energy shield, but for all intents and purposes pretty well any character could just pump vitality and be just as good if not better than any other build of that same character.

Bought Alan Wake on Steam (it was on sale) and it looks ok but you can tell it is a console port. The graphics are top notch but the camera angles are just "off" and you combat with the aiming system is a mess. The story is very top notch.
I had alot of fun playing Alan Wake -- even my wife was into (watching) it.Played like a movie.

Crysis 2 was fun, and had some interesting concepts. The game has a good bit of content in SP, and I never tried MP. If you can get it on the cheap, it's worth it.

Got Crysis 2 over lunch. Will I like it?
I played a few hours in and it was above average to good.
It was between that and Fable 3.
I'm not sure what it is about Crysis games. I have yet to finish a single one. I get a ways into the campaign and just lose steam. I start out all excited and loving it, then
That's I how I felt about Gears of war 3.

GTFO!

Anyone playing Orcs Must Die! on PC? I bought it over the holiday sale, and just started playing it a couple of weeks ago. It is a very fun hybrid game. Part castle-defense, part FPS. Setting up kill boxes and racking up huge killstreaks = :moneybag:

I'm not sure what it is about Crysis games. I have yet to finish a single one. I get a ways into the campaign and just lose steam. I start out all excited and loving it, then
Glad I'm not the only one. And Fable 3 was ok, but no where near as good as the other two.

Anyone playing Orcs Must Die! on PC? I bought it over the holiday sale, and just started playing it a couple of weeks ago. It is a very fun hybrid game. Part castle-defense, part FPS. Setting up kill boxes and racking up huge killstreaks = :moneybag:
Haven't played that one, but I meant to tell you that Deathspank is definitely great. Really funny too, although the humor is much more in-your-face than Magicka was.

Got Crysis 2 over lunch. Will I like it?

Skyrim at $40 on Steam this weekend. I probably won't get to it for another month or two, but should I grab it now at this price? I'm relatively new to the Steam world so I don't know if a better deal is likely in a couple months.

Their summer camp deals are usually in July. If you can wait till then its usually 50-80% off even newer games. Got Fallout New Vegas for $15 last year and it came out in Nov 2010.

Awesome. I'll roll the dice and wait.

Finally been getting back on my console after not playing much lately. Continuing my Old Games that are Now Cheap Tour. So far this month I played and finished both Uncharted 2 (twice) and Uncharted 3. Started Dead Space, which I got along with Uncharted 3 when I traded Skyrim in during the 30% extra special Gamestop had not to long ago. I already had Dead Space 2 but decided I wanted to play both games in order, like I did with the Uncharted series. Got through the first three chapters today. Took a bit to get used to the over the shoulder perspective it uses. But enjoying it so far, and not dieing a ton like I normally do when I pick up a new game. Also have Mass Effect 2 and 3 in the queue. Oh, and may go back and finish Demon's Souls. But that one, I really have to get pumped up for. Really the only release I am looking forward too is Borderlands 2, and maybe that Just the Two of Us. May need to see some reviews on that first.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier is 5/22 release, so that is a possibility once it comes down a bit, after I have played enough Diablo 3.

Been playing Minecraft 360 with the kids. It's...well, it's Minecraft. However, it's nice that the kids can play with me, and I like watching them jump when there's an unseen zombie close by and moaning.edit: apparently so are over a million others! jeez!http://kotaku.com/5910163/minecraft-on-xbox-360-has-sold-more-than-1-million-copies
Its nice to see this game grow over the years. Ive been with it since 2009 and I loved watching it grow from the simple begining to now have zombies, spiders and other enemies along with different crafts you can make. Its so simple yet so addictively fun. You can do anything you want and the map goes on forever. This is what a real sandbox game feels like.

I've got this and Dungeon Defenders which is similar. I play them on occasion. Both quite enjoyable for the price I paid.

Star Wars for XBox Kinnect. Most awesome video game ever. I feel like I just did a second round of P90X today. Rules. And we are only a few scenes into it. Very very awesome to play with a young son. And to make it even more fun we busted out our lightsabers. Yes, I'm not ashamed to admit it.

As a child of the 80's, this sounds absolutely magnificent.

You can pick up Skyrim on eBay for under $30 now on Xbox and under $35 on PS3.

So can you sell PC games? I have Skyrim sitting at home and would gladly sell it cheap to someone here but I don't know the "rules" anymore with used PC games

That depends on the game and its copy protection. I believe Skyrim had to be connected to a steam account no? If that is the case, then it cannot be resold.

I think you would be more ashamed if you DIDN'T use your lightsabers. And even though I'm sure the game does the sound, you should also make the humming sound yourself.
