Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

When playing games, why do I take it so much more personally when Corvo (or any modern gen character) dies than I did when Mario died as punishment for my failure?
Because there's actually some phenomenal character development in some modern games. I remember that's why I felt shafted in the video game draft, a lot of the complex/interesting characters I chose got passed over for the likes of Ryu.
Damnit, now you have me thinking of doing another game draft!
Give it some time to breath.

I'm going through the original Mass Effect for the first time. Can you guys help me with some questions?

- Garrus has a power called First Aid that is supposed to restore my health, but I can't find it anywhere on the power wheel. Does this just automatically kick in when I use medigel?

- When I come across a box that is locked, it says that I can either manually hack it or spend 25 medigel to unlock it. I don't understand how/why I could have 25 medigels at any point in this game. Can someone explain?

- How do I unequip a weapon from someone altogether? Before I understood that Garrus could fire only assault rifles & sniper rifles, I gave him a shotgun and a pistol, too. How do I unequip those now?

TIA... there probably will be more to come as I advance through the game...

Can't answer any of your questions but, as someone who just downloaded it and has never played any ME games, how are you enjoying it so far? I assume you are on the PS3?

Yes, I'm on PS3. It's dated, as you'd probably expect, but it's definitely playable. I am a HUGE fan of ME2 & ME3, so I've really been looking forward to experiencing ME1. I'm about 6 hours in. It's really filled in a lot of details for me. I will probably play this character straight through ME2 & ME3.The game play is quite a bit different from ME2 & ME3. The primary difference is that each power has its own cooldown (which seems to be both good and bad, the trade-off being that powers seem to take drastically longer to recharge). One thing to note is that the Vanguard doesn't have charge. I didn't realize this until I was about 2 hours in; otherwise, I probably would've chosen a different class.I am actually pretty worried about something else at the moment. I'm supposed to start missions on Feros and Noveria right now, but I can't land on either planet. If I leave the systems and come back, it gives me the option to land, but when I do, it just loads me back to teh galaxy map on the Normandy, and the option to land is gone. My journal still shows the missions as available/incomplete. So I started the only other mission available (the Bring Down the Sky mission). I'm hoping I'll be able to start one/both of these missions when I'm done with this one. Otherwise, I guess I may need to restart my game. :kicksrock:

Medigel and omnigel are different, as I recall. You use the latter for locks. You can do things like melt down extra equipment for omnigel.

You're right. :bag: Thanks.

Since this will be my first play-through of ANY kind, what's the best class to choose for the first time player? And like you, I want something that will take me through all three games of the trilogy.p.s. Wonder if your issue is a PS3 bug? If so, maybe I'll wait out the technical glitches before starting. Still rolling through XCOM right now.

Well, the Vanguard is the most fun in ME2 & ME3, but it also has the steepest learning curve. I was going to recommend that you go with the Infiltrator for your first playthrough, but I see that this class doesn't have Invisibility Cloak until ME2. Since I'm not really clear on what's going on yet in ME1, I think I'd better defer on this question to someone who's a veteran of all 3 games. Not sure what's going on, but I really hope I don't have to restart...

Seriously. It's not even been a year this time and a slow one for gaming.

I didn't even know there was a walking dead game. I don't watch the show. Are amc and spike owned by the same company?
Development for the game started practically at the exact same time as the show began, both took place at the height of popularity for the comic. The game itself is very much like the comic, its slow paced and has little to do with zombies. Its episodic you can buy individual episodes that last about 3-4 hours each for like 5 bucks a piece or buy a whole series for like 20. The success of the first series has guaranteed a second. In addition to the this game a few social games are soon to be released and there is talks of a first person MMORPG set in the walking dead universe. On topic:Steam sale is supposed to begin the 20th, my wallet isn't gonna survive.

Love me some Holiday Sale. I made it through the Fall sale unscathed.

I just purchased up Kingdoms of Amular. Anyone played that?
Been playing it on xbox. Its a very ambitious 1st release and no wonder the company went under. I have almost 90 hours into the game and still have about half the map to explore( I do alot of side quests). Its very similar play wise to Skyrim, but the leveling up is quite different. You can reset your level up skill allotments at a fateweaver it just cost gold so dont worry about messing up your build. Its a fun RPG, with some nice writing and interesting story lines.
I love this so far! Only a few hours into it but starting to get the hang of the fighting (I am using hard mode). I just picked up my first complete set of armor that gives a ton of bonus's. is there any one screen which summarizes the combined benefits? I looked in the effects screen but that appears to only be current diseases, potions buffs and temple type blessings info.
The fighting reminds me of Tales of Vesperia, but with more options. The only way to see your current benefits is use the start button and I think its called status. Your set bonuses only show up on the armor in the armor screen I believe. The bonus wont be greyed out it should be white if I recall properly. There is alot of info in the start button menu, but sometimes its hard to find exactly what you need.
ok thanks! I am collecting quests like crazy :)Two more questions1) When running around, should I always go into a cave/ruin etc if it is not yet tied to a quest?2) How do I determine if a quest is appropriate for my current level character?
I finished this up over the weekend. The map is a little misleading. The second Half was not as chock full of quests. To be honest its almost like the last 1/3 was just trying to get the game out, lots of unexplored areas and caves with no tie in to the story, unlike the first part of the map which tied in almost all the caves. The story was pretty good and the ending wasnt bad either, but it could have been much more.overall I give the game about an 8-8.5 and I put in about 125 hours, slightly less than the 200+ as pimped by the developer. I still feel it was a good purchase since most EA games are about 20 hours to complete, I feel I got a great value for the $40 I spent.

 I am highly enjoying this. I am only about 15 hours in so far but love the vast choices of direction your character can take. I am building an archer melee character. From reading, the archer is a difficult build but once you get him leveled up, he is extremely powerful. Do you level cap at 40 by the time you finished? And did you get 100% trophies in the 120 hours? I think when developers claim X hours for a game, they mean total completion. I assume there must be Lorestones and other items in those caves/areas that were not tied into quests.

no. it plays like Skyrim in that way. Single player only.

I'll likely grab The Walking Dead and Retro City Rampage during the holiday sale. And anything else that's an awesome deal that I want.

My link Shows how to get XCOM for $20 activated on Steam. I caved :bag:

ETA you can get The Walking Dead for $10 there as well.

Freaking AWESOME Last of Us trailer.

DLC for Dishonored beginning to roll out. Have to admit though, I haven't enjoyed that game as much as I thought I would. Can't put my finger on why.

If you page through Joystiq, they have a lot of information on Bioshock Infinite that they're putting up.
 I haven't started it yet, it's just sitting there
Don't get me wrong, it's a good game. I just haven't been blown away as I thought the story would be a bit more developed. But it's still Assassin's Creed, Deus Ex, and Bioshock in a blender. Which is a good thing.

Sweet - still playing Xcom - I finally unwrapped dishonored and it should get played soon

I'm with you on it. I got it when it came out and played it a couple of nights and sat it down. Haven't picked it up since. Nothing wrong with it at all except something just feels empty. Maybe not a compelling enough story?

A big annoyance for me is that I feel like if I sneak by I miss stuff. This doesn't bother me that much since even if I do sneak past an area, inevitable somebody later does see me and then all the guys who I have previously snuck past come charging to their deaths.

Big spoiler
The biggest thing for me is that The Betrayal is so transparent that it's anti-climactic when it happens. Does ANYONE playing the game think that your "allies" won't turn on you?

That's a big problem I have too. It seems impossible that you can sneak around enough to avoid the "dark" ending so you're left wondering if you'll enjoy it when you get there.

I found a link for a free copy of Metro 2033.

It's a link to THQ's page. Like the page, then click on 'reveal code', and it gives you a code that you can use on Steam.

I'm enjoying it, but maybe because I can play this for an hour and set it down. Bioshock or Uncharted, no way. That was a 3 hr investment where the controller would have to be ripped out of my bloody hands. Dishonored is a very solid game, IMO.

Been playing Far Cry 3 in between my 16 hour sleep sessions, happens every holiday break.

Anyways, this game is great. Have to take over a pirate outpost, this particular one happens to be a gas station. Covered my jeep in C4 and drove it through the front gates, rolled out just before blowing it up killing everyone but the lone sniper pirate. A half second later the hood of my jeep comes crashing down killing the sniper.

This game.

The Aftermath

We are going to get my boys an Xbox for their room for Xmas. Can I transfer DLC, games (Minecraft, Arcade games) etc from one 360 to another? Would I need to use a flash drive?
there are a couple of ways to do it. Here is a quick explanation for how to do it with a simple flash stickhttp://www.ehow.com/how_6751772_copy-another-one-thumb-drive.html
Excellent. Much appreciated!
OK. I've saved most everything as far as DLC, saved games, etc. However, it is not letting me DL the actual game. "Destintion device is the same as the current device". Thumb drive is plugged in. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? This has more to do with the games we DL'd off Xbox Live Arcade. Please excuse the ignorance...PS--#### YOU MINECRAFT!

I am not an Xbox owner but it likely has something to do with digital rights where the downloaded games are tied to the system they were originally downloaded to. Read this link, it talks about how to transfer the rights from one Xbox machine to another. http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live/marketplace-and-purchasing/download-content

Yes - also though I think you can just redownload the game if need be, you need to transfer you profile over alsohttp://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live/marketplace-and-purchasing/play-xbox-live-contentIf your console was repaired or you used the license transfer tool to transfer licenses from one console to another, the locally stored licenses might be out of date. You must download the content again to update the locally stored licenses. Here’s how: On your console, sign in to Xbox LIVE using the gamertag that you used when you originally purchased the content. Go to Settings, and then select System. Select Storage, and then select the location of the item (for example, Hard Drive). Select Games & Apps, and then locate the game and select it. Select the item that you’re having a problem with, and then select Delete. Return to Xbox Home. Go to Settings, and then select Account. Select Download History. Select the item that you are having download problems with, and then select Download Again.

Just a quick update, GoG.com has picked up the pace on their sale calling it an "end of the world" sale, marking down things that were 50% off to 75% off. A lot of good titles.

Also, the newest Humble Bundle came out today, totally worth it for sure, includes one of my favorite games of all time, The Binding of Isaac (and the DLC), pay what you want (minimum $1) adjustable sliders that determine how much goes to charity or the developer.

Also a quick reminder that the Steam winter sale starts the 21st, hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng.

I was actually enjoying Mass Effect 1 (more so for the story than the dated game play, obviously), but I got to a point where the next priority mission wouldn't start. This was about 6 hours in. Coupled with the fact that my Vanguard can't charge (I guess that was introduced in ME2), and I will probably just give up on this game. Kind of bummed out about that. :kicksrock:

PS3. Huge ME fan, and had been waiting a long time to play this game. Might give it another shot down the road, but it's probably not likely.

Did you try to go back to a slightly earlier save?

:bag: I bet you already know what I'm going to say here...I didn't make any additional saves. :( Yes... I agree, this is totally my fault.

No. Don't do that.Just play on the "easy" setting and play through only the priority missions.

Honestly, I was really hoping someone would tell me that... so thanks. :) Any advice for which class to take? The powers are so underwhelming compared to ME2 & ME3 that I am almost tempted to run with the soldier. But again, I was only 6 hours in (I had just added Liara and my next missions were Feros or Noveria), so maybe I just didn't get far enough into the game...
